The Savannah Country Day Hornets attended the UCA cheer camp in Jekyll Island this summer. They received second-place honors for a routine learned at the camp. Since receiving this honor, sophomore Elizabeth Bowden and senior Waverly Reeves have an opportunity to compete in London this fall as part of UCA All-star team. The Hornets hosted mini camps for ages 4 to 11 year olds. The squad is more than ready to cheer their football team to victory this fall. This year’s squad is under the direction of 1st year Head Coach Cristy Ammerman. The Hornets will be led by sophomore Captain Elizabeth Bowden and junior Co-captain Sarah Boland. “The girls worked real hard this summer and did a great job at summer camp,” said Ammerman. “They are looking forward to the football season.”

eing a cheerleader is more then just showing up on Friday night. There’s a lot of preparation such as learning routines, cheers, tumbling, and dance that goes into becoming a good cheerleader. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication. This summer several of our local cheerleading teams went to camp to perfect their performances that will be seen at football and basketball games. One of the most popular cheerleading camps is the Universal Cheerleading Associations Camp. Commonly known as the UCA camp, teams get comprehensive instruction and it’s a chance for teams to bond outside of a school setting. The camp covers all facets of cheerleading from stunts, dances, jumps, cheers, and sideline routines for all athletic events.
