Flounder fish house was founded in 1981 in Kansas City Missouri, bringing a taste of the California coast to landlocked KC.


Anna

This is Anna Moreau. She grew up in Santa Barbara, CA. Anna loved to fish peruse the fish market. She loved to see the beautiful array of fish.


Her dad’s restaurant was the most popular in town, serving the freshest catch of the day. She spent her summers here helping out and quietly absorbing the trades of the business.


Anna’s father sold the restaurant when she became an adult. She was deeply saddened, but had recently accepted a proposal for marriage and found herself swiftly submerged in a new life.


Anna moved to KC in 1975 with her husband who was a successful attorney. She knew being landlocked would be different, but had no idea how much she would miss home. She found a job waiting tables at Winstead’s and slowly saved her money. She had a box under her bed of table linens, fabric samples, signage specimens, and hundreds of photographs that she’d look at for motivation when her goal seemed a little too far away.


She missed her friends, fishing, and her Dad’s restaurant. She wondered what it would take to get fresh, pristine fish all the way to KC. Anna wanted to bring the coast to KC. She wanted to ensure that things were done the right way and that her company wouldn’t be importing from fish mongers who’s practices endangered the fish. Luckily Anna had a strong network of fisherman that her father was in business with back home and they were eager to go into business with her.


Anna wanted an upscale restaurant, but she wanted families to be able to eat there too.


Anna and her husband eventually saved enough to purchase a building and start implementing these ideas to get the freshest catch to KC.


The business has only gotten stronger since Anna started Flounder in 1981. We implement top of the line technology to ensure you’re eating the freshest, best tasting fish in the Midwest.
