Help keeping the Aeolian Islands clean! The volcanic archipelago of the Aeolian Islands is of an extraordinary natural and geological beauty. Itʼs so unique and valuable that UNESCO inscribed the Aeolian Islands on the World Heritage List in the year 2000, as a biosphere reserve as well as a cultural heritage. Plastic pollution

Unfortunately large amounts of plastic pollution from the sea spoil the splendid coasts of the Aeolian Islands. Every year again.
During the 3 days of marine waste gathering, the international group is divided into 2 teams: one team in kayak and the other on land. After having enjoyed our lunch together on the beach, the teams switch tasks!
Beach Clean-up We, Canoa Kayak Club Aeolian Islands, keep on fighting against the pollution of the Aeolian Islands with our yearly ‘Eco Kayak’ Beach Clean-up event. Each spring, we use our kayaks to reach and clean (deserted) beaches. Also from land we reach spots to be cleared from plastic pollution. Of course we can’t do this important job on our own. With an enthusiastic group of international volunteers we’re going to clean the beaches, having a great time together at the same time.

21 March: Arrival on the island of Vulcano, welcome meeting, preparing our kayaks and equipment in the evening. 22 March: This is day of adventure between the coast and the mountains of the intriguing and wild island of Vulcano! The kayak team cleans the beaches at the east side of Vulcano, paddling south until the beautiful beach of Cannitello. The other team travels by Quad, which allows us to cross the entire island, over the 500 meters high Vulcano Piano. We will clean some spots on the way to the beach of Cannitello, where both teams meet and enjoy the picknick together. Swich of tasks after lunch.
23 March: With a private boat the ‘land’ team arrives on the island of Lipari, where they enjoy a scenic hike. The other team paddles to Lipari in kayak, cleaning the east beaches. In the quaint town of Lipari, the 2 teams enjoy the lunch break together, after which the teams switch the hiking/kayak activities. We return to Vulcano by kayak and boat. 24 March: We finish the cleaning of the east beaches of Vulcano by kayak, and clean the famous Black Beaches at the west side on foot. In the afternoon it’s possible to climb the active Crater of Vulcano, after which we have a drink in town to thank and say goodbye*. Bring home good memories of 3 intense, adventurous and fun days, protecting a unique part of UNESCO’s World Heritage. * For participants staying for the optional 4-day-kayak-tour (see below): we prepare the equipment in the evening of 24 March, for departure next day.

Participation cost: € 35,- per person* The price includes: • Rental of Quad and fuel during the activity on March 22 • Ticket private boat for the activity on March 23 • Membership Federazione Italiana Canoa Kayak • Goodbye drink The presence of the Kayak Guide and the rental of the kayak equipment are free of charge*: • Sea kayak, paddles, life jackets, spray skirt, waterproof bag • Entrance and services at the private beach of Vulcano Blu (our base) • Luggage deposit • Transfer to and from the port of Vulcano to our nautical base at Vulcano Blu The price does not include: • Meals, drinks, accommodation • Entrance fees to museums, archeological sites and crater ascents or fares for extra interisland travel • Travel & health insurance (compulsory)

Please contact us for information. • We organize pick-nick style lunch for € 5 per person per day. • We can arrange dinners at reduced prices for our participants. * Note: Canoa Kayak Club Aeolian Islands does not receive any sponsorship for the Eco Kayak event. 25 - 28 March, 2013 Especially for Eco Kayak participants who want to add some days to enjoy the enchanting Aeolian Islands, we organize a splendid kayak tour of 4 days.We spend the night on deserted beaches (or in B&B’s if preferred). We paddle around Vulcano, then to the west of Lipari with it’s beautiful volcanic rocks, and at the end we paddle around the green island of Salina, after which we return to Vulcano by ferry.
