Heirloom Recipe
Anne Langton lived at Blythe Farm near Sturgeon Point from 1837 to 1846. She offered the first schooling in the area, funded the first school building, and is the namesake of Langton Public School in Fenelon Falls. She is revered in Kawartha Lakes for capturing the surroundings for posterity through art and literature. Anne documented the Langton family’s adventures in local food in her journals and letters.

Anne Langton’s Dessert Biscuits
In a bowl, mix 1/2 cup of sugar with as much water as will dissolve it. Add 1/2 cup of clarified butter. Pour this hot mixture over 4 eggs, beating it up until a little cool. Add caraway seeds. Stir in flour until it becomes a stiff paste. Roll the dough and fold it as often as your patience will allow. Form cakes the thickness of two half crowns and prick the dough before baking. (Note: Anne would have cooked her biscuits very differently, perhaps with an open fireplace, so no baking
Sponsored By instructions are included. Try baking them at 350 for 15 minutes or until golden on top.)
