CREATIVE COLLECTIVE & LABEL Founded in 2016, Kamp1 was born in New Delhi, India. Inspired by a need to create a collaborative space for musicians and artists to work together towards creative expression, Kamp1 includes a 360-degree Music Production & Djing Course, a label, a co-working space for musicians, a recording facility and a mentorship program spearheaded by KERANO. Kamp1 aspires to create an intimate hub for musicians without the formal setting of a large-scale academy.


COURSE IDEAS The course can consist of a combination of Macro and Micro production, composing and Dj-ing concepts. There should be a uniform overview of the entire course so students interested or potential students can get an overview of what we have to offer. Within the space, the tutors can bring in their own hands on experience and approach. However, would be ideal if we follow rough guidelines to help students achieve a good foundation to express themselves as producers, recording musicians/engineers & DJs Create a facebook page, forum, dropbox account to share weekly project, students + instructors)

ALL of the above classes will have sub-divisions and spread out throughout the 3-month course, in a way that they complement each other. And so that with time we can progress onto more advanced concepts and build confidence and a good foundation for the students. I feel the aim should be to instill a more professional, creative and innovative attitude among the students than pursuing a shortsighted instant success vision.

BEGINNER MODULE DJ-ing

(Step by step Topics and excerises) 1. Introduction to setting up CDJ’s, mixer & Monitors (Wires) 2. Going through the interface, browsing though songs, load a track. 3. Cue-ing a track (Includes Cue-ing a track from the first audible drum beat, or transient) exercises about 30 tracks in a session. (Different genres and styles to know where to cue a track) 4. Counting BPM manually, (Purpose of this is to get used to identify different BPMs, between fast and slow songs etc) 5. Beat-matching same track on two decks using jog-wheel (Purpose of this exercise is to introduce students to beat-matching) 6. Beat-matching tracks of different tempos with both screens covered (The purpose of this exercise is to have control of the jog-wheel and tempo fader, to enhance and develop ear for beat-matching.) This technique is not necessarily used in a live set, but it’s a good skills and practice to gain confidence over the decks, and be able to improvise on any deck. 7. Next step would be mix a selection of 10-12 songs, adjusting tempos with the screens uncovered (Once they have developed the ability to mix) 8. Barring, Harmonic Mixing. (Introducing students to counting bars and keys through reckordbox & Mixed in Key. This helps in identifying where to release a track to be able to smoothly transition into the next track to retain energy.) 9. Selecting a 10 track selection, recording a set and set review & feedback from tutors (Irrespective of Key, energy etc) 10. Final set, 20 track mix, with with harmonic mixing


SOFTWARE TRAINING (LOGIC X & 9) • Audio tracks & Software instruments. • Preferences, Choosing audio sources etc. • Explaining the arrange window, inspector column, browser section, mixer window. • Audio Channel: Accessing loops, recording audio, basic audio manipulation. • Software Instruments: Synths (Logic stock synths, Sylenth1) • Setting up send & return effects • Bouncing audio, expiring audio files, importing audio files, time & Pitch Machine, Quantizing MIDI & Audio. • EXS25 sampler, loading samples, making sample instruments. • Q & A sessions, queries, troubleshooting etc.

FAST TRACK BUILD

(Introduction to loops, sampler & Software instruments and Audio) Deep House

Goal: introduction to Deep House tracks to introduce students to different styles. 1. Building a 16 bar drum loop, using only sample instruments & Ultrabeat etc. 2. Adding loops (Drum loops, Fx loops etc) 3. Adding a bass line, (MIDI) 4. Adding tonal loops. 5. Introduction to arrangement, how to avoid common pit falls. ) 6. Gradually Build up to a full track.
