As a volunteer driven, non-profit organization the Pasadena Tournament of Roses® Association brings people together to create premier events and entertainment celebrating the New Year. The Tournament of Roses enriches the lives of many people and organizations it touches by providing satisfying, meaningful and rewarding experiences.

Volunteerism and investing in our community are among the Pasadena Tournament of Roses’ cornerstones. The Rose Parade® presented by Honda and the Rose Bowl Game® presented by Northwestern Mutual, two world-class events enjoyed by millions around the world, are the result of our spirit of giving put into action. Utilizing the highly visible platform of America’s New Year Celebration®, to share the hope and joy of the new year by investing and engaging in communities at the local, regional and national level.

The Pasadena Tournament of Roses is a vital community organization, focused in positively impacting people through charitable giving, volunteerism, and community involvement. The Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association, and the Tournament of Roses Foundation work together to strengthen and direct our community engagement efforts. These efforts include developing and implementing programs around enhancing educational opportunities, investing in our community, strengthening community business partnerships, and creating experiences that make a difference.

Local, Regional, and National Support The 2020 Rose Bowl Game contributed approximately $75.3 million to support universities in the Big Ten and Pac-12 conferences. The Pasadena Tournament of Roses generated nearly $200 million in economic impact in the Southern California region. To date, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses has contributed more than $1.3 billion to Americaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s colleges and universities in support of higher education and collegiate athletics. The Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association annually donates nearly $600,000 to select organizations and individuals within the greater Pasadena Area.

The Pasadena Tournament of Roses is a long-standing supporter of regional and national education initiatives. By supporting students and teachers, we help provide needed resources and valuable opportunities for educational growth.

Connecting STEM and College Access: Washington Steam Magnet Academy AVID at USC Keck

R O S E S T E M P R O G R A M - M O N R OV I A U N I F I E D S C H O O L D I S T R I C T Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) are ever-present in all the Association’s major events. This, combined with a global emphasis on STEM related education and careers, has allowed us to prioritize STEM as a key component of our community outreach. The Pasadena Tournament of Roses has partnered with several local schools to coordinate trips to local colleges such as California Institute of Technology (CalTech), University of California, Los Angles (UCLA) , Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM), and the University of Southern California (USC), Health Science Campus to visit and learn about their STEM academic programs. The students are immersed in learning how STEM comes to life on a university level and applied in the real world. The Tournament of Roses also provided elementary schools with LEGO® robot coding sets and tablets to enhance students’ learning experiences. Each participating student gained hands-on experience with coding through building their respective LEGO robots.

Pasadena Tournament of Roses is connected to various colleges and universities, and we are invested in supporting the pursuit of higher education. Last year, we expanded our partnership with PCC to include support to their foster youth initiatives. These programs and events provide support to students who have experienced economic and educational hardships. Additionally, support is provided to current and former foster youth students, which include resources to help them complete their educational goals, be it, vocational certificates, associates degrees, or transferring to four-year institutions.

2 0 1 9 – 2 0 2 0 T E AC H E R G R A N T S Each year, we engage with our national and local partners, the College Football Playoff Foundation (CFPF) and the Pasadena Educational Foundation (PEF), to provide significant financial support for the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD). This year, we awarded 136 grants supporting 169 teachers. In addition to grants directly to teachers, PEF awarded 18 school-wide project grants, for larger focused projects. The grants fund academic programs and projects, such as iPads for entrepreneurial endeavors, musical instruments, NASA Activities, Science Labs and Makerspaces based upon each school’s individual need. For the 2019 - 2020 school year, this program provided $200,000 in grants, which impacted over 11,148 students, serving every school in PUSD.

This year students have gained valuable work experience at several notable organizations in industries such as education, health care, renewability and sustainability, the arts, retail, and event planning. The internship program is instrumental in providing students the opportunity to gain real work experiences while improving communication, organizational, and teamwork skills. These valuable experiences for students would not have been possible without the support of our dedicated community partners who faithfully support our program.”

The Pasadena Tournament of Roses participates in Extra Yard for Teachers Week, a College Football Playoff Foundation initiative focused on recognizing the outstanding efforts of our educators. We “Go the Extra Yard” by recognizing exceptional Pasadena educators with thank-you gifts and luncheons. We also provide PUSD “Teachers of the Year” with exclusive access to America’s New Year Celebration, which includes premier parade seats, VIP Tailgate tickets, Hall of Fame Luncheon tickets, and exclusive on-field access during the Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual. We believe that when teachers are celebrated and recognized, educational opportunities increase for students.

NEXT GENERATION OF VOLUNTEERS – PASADENA POLYTECHNIC SCHOOL

We focus on working with youth to increase their awareness about our organization and history, through understanding that they are future volunteers, float builders and parade and game participants. This year, we continued our partnership with Pasadena Polytechnic School by helping them host a mini parade for their parents. This group of kindergarten students created their own parade route, floats, musical units, and named their own Grand Marshal.

As we continue our efforts to focus on STEM and college access continue through the Pasadena Tournament of Roses has partnerships with the Monrovia Unified School District (MUSD), Alhambra Unified School District (AUSD), and Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD). These efforts include hosting a series of specialized college tours for over 500 students and chaperones to various colleges and universities in the Southern California area. These visits include Cal Poly Pomona; University of La Verne; University of California, Los Angeles; University of California, Irvine; University of Southern California; California Institute of Technology; Occidental College; and various California State Universities and local community colleges. Students receive campus tours, behind the scenes department tours, engage in student life activities and insightful discussions with current college students and professors to gain their perspective on college life.

It was cool to see the ceramics building and the creations were very interesting to look at. I learned about the different types of art the school has within a major. The different kinds include ceramics, 3D art, animation, illustration, photography, and more. This gave a sense of calm to me because if I consider pursuing art at this school, I won’t have to worry about sticking to one branch of it.”

Over 700 students were able to experience first-hand what it was like to be on a college campus. Additionally, for many of the college campuses we visited, CTE Advisors reached out personally to department heads to coordinate special departmental tours -- giving students a chance to visit facilities such as senior art galleries, engineering labs, marine biology labs, and numerous more. With over 84% of our participating students being historically underrepresented youths, including EL students, Hispanic/ Latino, SPED, and low-income, these opportunities are something that doesn’t come often.”

The Pasadena Tournament of Roses with the support of Southwest Airlines, provided twenty flight vouchers to high school seniors and community college freshman for college visits. During spring break, these first-generation college students used the travel opportunity to explore colleges and universities where they had been accepted to or had interest in attending. These schools include California State University, Fullerton, Electrical Training Institute, Rio Hondo College, East Los Angeles College, Glendale City College, California State University, Northridge, Los Angeles Trade Tech, University of California, Berkley, San Francisco State University, University of California, Riverside, Arizona State University. This initiative was a valuable resource in giving students the opportunity to make an informed decision about their future educational endeavors.

“One of the biggest challenges Ms. Orozco has faced was negative perceptions and stereotypes surrounding a Hispanic female. Additionally, Ms. Orozco experienced bullying at school based on her appearance. It was not until she transitioned to Rose City High School, where Ms. Orozco received the support and positive affirmation she needed to succeed and thrive academically. Partnering with the Pasadena Tournament of Roses on the college tours program, opened a door for Ms. Orozco; one she hadn’t known was available to her before. While on these college tours, she found hope in new options, opportunities and the possibility to change her family’s situation. Ms. Orozco is looking forward to attending college and becoming the first in her family to earn a college degree. Upon completion of college, Ms. Orozco plans to invest time in dental assistance and purchase her own property. She understands what it means to be financially stable and wants to support her mother. The adversity she faces as a Hispanic woman empowers her to help those who struggle without resources and support. Students Tour UCLA’s Campus

“

I am an eighth grader and AVID student at Washington STEAM Multilingual Academy. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, a program helping students develop the skills they need to be successful in college. For two years now AVID and its partner, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses has given me the opportunity to visit colleges and universities. These visits included California State Polytechnic, University Pomona, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), University of Southern California (USC) Keck School of Medicine, Occidental College, and Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM). Visiting these schools opened me to a new world of possibilities and opportunities on where a higher education can take me. All these colleges positively impacted me, especially UCLA. UCLA is the dream school I would like to attend for my medical degree. When I grow up, I would like to be an obstetrician. Visiting UCLA made me realize I should never give up and that hard work pays off. I want to thank the Tournament of Roses and AVID for giving me this amazing opportunity. 8TH GRADER (AVID STUDENT)

Two years ago, I was in the process of deciding which school I wanted to transfer into to finish my degree. Even though I had been able to attend a number of campus tours, financial constraints made it difficult to explore beyond local universities. The University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) was the last school to send me an acceptance letter and it was during that time, the EOP&S program at Pasadena City College (PCC) informed me that the Pasadena Tournament of Roses was awarding me a round-trip flight voucher to visit the school. Being able to visit the school ahead of time allowed me to learn about multiple opportunities that were key to my academic, personal and professional success. I’m now happy to announce that I’ll be graduating this Spring 2020 with a Neuroscience B.S. degree and I hope I get to pay it forward and impact the life of others as you had impacted mine. E. M. Pasadena Tournament of Roses Scholarships

The Pasadena Tournament of Roses believes in financially supporting students who are pursuing their higher education goals. We distributed the following scholarships in 2019: Pasadena Tournament of Roses Royal Court Seven Royal Court members received a $7,500.00 scholarship to assist with college expenses. Pasadena City College Automotive Technology Program One student studying automotive technology was awarded a $4,049.22 scholarship to cover costs for tuition and tools. California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) and San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly San Luis Obispo) Rose Float Scholarships Two students from Cal Poly Pomona and two students from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, studying STEM for the Rose Float Program were awarded a $3,000 scholarship to cover costs for tuition and tools. National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (N.O.B.L.E) In 2019, we continued our partnership with N.O.B.L.E., San Gabriel Valley Chapter and Helping Hands Nurses of Southern California, to provide three deserving high school seniors students a scholarship to assist with college expenses. National Football Foundation, (NFF) San Gabriel Valley Chapter At the annual NFF Pasadena/San Gabriel Valley Chapter Awards Banquet, three NFF scholar athletes were each awarded a $1,100 scholarship to assist with college expenses. More than 60 students from schools throughout the San Gabriel Valley were recognized, for their performance in the classroom and on the football field.

Investing in Our Local Community

The Pasadena Tournament of Roses’ annual economic impact on the region is nearly $200 million. Our contributions to local charities, nonprofits, schools, and other organizations are equally important to building a better quality of life for the entire region. The Association aims to invest in and support diverse communities throughout the region to engage and support the next generation of leaders. A D D R E S S I N G A LO C A L N E E D – U N I O N S TAT I O N S C H O O L S U P P L I E S The Pasadena Tournament of Roses understands our community has its challenges and we are dedicated to helping address these issues. Student homelessness is a nation-wide problem, which also impact affecting the Pasadena/San Gabriel Valley region. This year, The Pasadena Tournament of Roses has partnered with Union Station Homeless Services to provide additional support to work towards resolving the issue. The Association assembled over 200 backpacks with school supplies for local PUSD students and 200 personal care kits for students who have are homeless or have been displaced in Pasadena. C O M M U N I T Y E V E N T S U P P O R T – G OV E R N M E N T A N D P U B L I C A F FA I R S The Pasadena Tournament of Roses sponsors events held by local nonprofits and schools throughout the region, including Alhambra Educational Foundation and Elizabeth House. We’re proud to support organizations such as Five Acres, an organization that provides resources and programs to keep at-risk families together and provide foster youth with loving, permanent families of their own. This annual event brings together children and family advocates for a spectacular evening in support of children.

B UI LDI N G STR ONGER NON-PROFITS Understanding that our financial support for outside organizations is finite, one of our goals is to provide local organizations with tools to help them become more effective and efficient. In partnership with Jericho Roads, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses hosts an annual “Effective Board Training” workshop to help nonprofit board members better serve their respective organizations. Additionally, we partner with local organizations to host “Conversations with the Funder. These events provide non-profit leaders with an opportunity to have meaningful conversations with local foundations, in hopes that it better positions position them to receive funding.

Southwest Airlines is the presenting sponsor of the Parade of Roses, an annual rose figurine decorating competition hosted by the Tournament of Roses. In 2019, over 70 elementary and middle school students competed to design and decorate rose vases, inspired by the 2020 Rose Parade theme, â&#x20AC;&#x153;The Power of Hope.â&#x20AC;? Finalists from each school were honored at the Parade of Roses ceremony at the Paseo Colorado in Pasadena, where their winning artwork was showcased.

Through their support, the Foundation is able to increase their grantmaking to local nonprofit organizations doing meaningful work in the areas of Visual and Performing Arts, Education, and Sports & Recreation. Pasadena Tournament of Roses Foundation

Though our fame is worldwide, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association remains committed to our community. In 1983, the nonprofit Pasadena Tournament of Roses Foundation was created to receive and manage contributions from the Assocation, its volunteer members, friends, and supporters. In turn, the Foundation performs annual grantmaking to other nonprofit organizations in the Pasadena area, funding sports and recreation activities, visual and performing arts, and education programs. These broad categories allow the Foundation to contribute to the civic, cultural and educational advancement of our local communities. To date, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Foundation has given over $3 million to more than 200 organizations.

S P O R T S A N D R E C R E AT I O N Grantmaking in this category provides support to organizations that promote healthy lifestyles and youth development through sports and recreational activity. E D U C AT I O N Our education grantmaking aims to provide students with increased opportunities to succeed. Lineage uses grant funding to produce a series of free weekly dance, music and acting classes for people with Parkinson’s disease, Muscular Sclerosis and stroke at the Lineage Performing Arts Center. The classes provide community, creative expression, exercise and mitigate the effects of neurological diseases. “This class at Lineage is everything. It has encouraged me...when it comes to my classes here, I want everything to revolve around them because the people here are so great, and so encouraging. And the friendships I’ve formed are fantastic. I can’t say enough good things about what Lineage has meant to my life.” − Lineage’s Dance for Joy Student G I R L S O N T H E R U N O F LO S A N G E L E S C O U N T Y P R O G R A M S U P P O R T F O R LOW I N C O M E FA M I L I E S ( S P O R T S A N D R E C R E AT I O N ) Girls on the Run of Los Angeles (GOTRLA) uses grant funding to provide programming to low-income girls in Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) over the 2019–2020 school year. Quality programming positively transforms how girls, as well as volunteer mentors who lead lessons, assess their ability to contribute and value to society. Our girls at our site brainstormed many different ideas to help support the school and/ or whole community of Pasadena. A few of the girls heard from one of the teachers at our school that the homeless shelter in Pasadena, the Union Station Homeless Center, was specifically asking for 150 cans of green beans for their Thanksgiving celebration the following week. The girls wanted to collect 150 cans of green beans from our own school community to bring to the homeless shelter. They knew they had only three days to collect cans, but they were determined and dedicated. The girls made fantastic signs to solicit and post all over the school. They came in early to school to dress up in home-made green bean costumes while they held signs in the front of the school during drop off. The girls made announcements every morning to remind students to bring their green beans. BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF THE FOOTHILLS – THINK DIGITAL STEM EDUCATION (EDUCATION) Think Digital employs age-appropriate, activity-based lessons that expose disadvantaged youth to technology and digital applications to prepare them to successfully enter the workforce. James had never signed up for STEM activities at the Club before but loved playing video games. Staff member Jordan asked him if he wanted to learn about how those games are coded. He sat in on a coding session and was hooked. After learning how to animate using “scratch” coding, James entered a film contest. His animated short film used a voice excerpt from Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, and he animated his own drawings to interpret the words of the speech. Rose Bowl Game Presented by Northwestern Mutual

CONNECTING THE GAME AND THE COMMUNITY # H A S H TAG L U N C H B AG (O R E G O N / W I S C O N S I N ) The 2020 Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual continued its tradition of connecting the two participating teams to the Greater Los Angeles community. In partnership with Los Angeles based nonprofit #HashtagLunchbag, Oregon and Wisconsin players, coaching staff and families collectively prepared and assembled 800 meals, personal notes and selfcare items for those in need. The lunch bags were distributed to local organizations, A Million Drops and Food Finders, striving to make a difference in the lives of homeless and at-risk youth and families. ROS E B OW L GAME YOUT H FOOT BA LL C LIN IC & H E A LT H A N D F I T N E S S DAY The Pasadena Tournament of Roses and the City of Pasadena hosted its annual Youth Football Clinic at the Rose Bowl Stadium. The clinic was led by former NFL players Marcus Robertson, Chad Brown and Ricky Ervins. Additional coaches included city personnel and student athletes from USC and UCLA. Hundreds of boys and girls, ages 6 to 13, participated in agility drills, offensive and defensive training, proper techniques to promote on-field safety, and the importance of character development and good sportsmanship. This yearâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s event also included a wellness component offering adult fitness classes provided by 24 Hour Fitness and snacks from Dole, Trader Joeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s and the Pasadena Sandwich Company.

The Pasadena Tournament of Roses takes pride in our ability to help create meaningful and rewarding experiences as one of the leading volunteer organizations in the world. Our primary goal, which is to provide quality events that bring hope and joy, extends beyond America’s New Year Celebration to include unique experiences and partnerships with others in our local communities year-round. Through these community events, we aim to continue our tradition of providing year-round quality experiences.

M A K E -A-W I S H F O U N DAT I O N This past year, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses partnered with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to fulfill six-year old Rose’s wish of being a Royal Court Princess for a day. The Pasadena Tournament of Roses volunteer members along with the 2020 Royal Court created a day where Princess Rose received a glamorous makeover complete with a custom princess dress, a carriage ride through Pasadena, a Pasadena Police Officer escorting her as Prince Charming, a royal tea party, a grand royal coronation and an adoring crowd of well-wishers cheering her on as she greeted her royal subjects. Q U E E N A N D C O U R T C O M M U N I T Y E N G AG E M E N T E F F O R T S This past year, the 2020 Royal Court partnered with local organizations, including Union Station Homeless Services and Friends in Deed, to create meaningful experiences that truly make a difference in our community. The 2020 Royal Court volunteered their time to engage in various community-based activities that inspire hope, such as decorating holiday cookies with the families of the Pasadena Ronald McDonald Pasadena House and working with the San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity, to help build safe and affordable housing for families in need. “We sincerely value the time that our volunteers set aside to support Union Station Homeless Services. Each year, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses recognize community members who make a difference in other people’s lives, both locally and internationally through unique experiences. As a special token of gratitude, one of our goals is to provide unique experiences for these individuals and their families. At the 2020 Rose Bowl Game, we recognized three Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) staff and educators: 1) Ms. Victoria Humdy from John Marshall Fundamental was awarded Classified Employee of the Year 2) Mr. Joe Auch, from John Muir High School who was awarded the Superintendent Award and 3) Principal Rudy Ramirez of San Rafael Elementary School was awarded Principal of the Year. The three awardees were recognized on the field during the 2020 Rose Bowl Game. TEAM VISITS Annually, The Pasadena Tournament of Roses offers two youth-based organizations in southern California a behind-the-scenes opportunity to interact with the participating Rose Bowl Game teams. Elementary and middle school students from the Pasadena Panthers and Santa Anita Family YMCA observed practices and interacted with players prior to the New Year’s Day game. D O N AT E D T I C K E T S Annually, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses donates approximately 6,000 tickets to various communities, which are distributed to individuals, organizations and communities in and around Pasadena. YO U N G L E G I S L ATO R S P R O G R A M The Pasadena Tournament of Roses partnered with California Assembly Member Chris Holden to support a group of San Gabriel Valley high school students, who participated in the District 41 Young Legislators Program. The students who participated were given the unique opportunity to visit the California State Capitol, where they learned about the legislative process, services provided to constituents by elected leaders’ responsibilities, and the relationship between local and state governments. The visit to northern California also included a tour of Facebook’s headquarters in Menlo Park and a panel discussion with members of Facebook’s government affairs team.

Our Young Legislators Program, now in its sixth year, offers high school seniors a front row seat to the public policy and political arena. Students graduate from our program with the knowledge and tools to be more effective leaders in their community. Assembly Member Chris Holden Being a part of the Young Legislators Program impacted my senior year. I loved meeting people from all across the district and from different professions. I also remember thinking that everyone seemed to really love what they did and were proud of their contributions. Our trip to Sacramento was the perfect end to the program; getting an inside look at the legislative process was incredible, and I was just as happy to get to spend time with the other students I’d gotten to know over those few months. Volunteer Membership

Each year more than 80,000 hours of combined service is supplied by 935 volunteer members of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses. Nicknamed “White Suiters” because of the distinctive white suits worn by every volunteer, these community-spirited men and women donate their evenings, weekends and holidays to ensure the success of America’s New Year Celebration. A small full-time, year-round staff provides support and continuity to the volunteer organization. The Pasadena Tournament of Roses welcomes applications from all eligible individuals who are willing and able to donate their time in order to promote and produce the parade and game, as well as participate in other activities and events. The Pasadena Tournament of Roses accepts applications for new membership on a continual basis and each spring the Association welcomes new members. New members should expect to spend about 40 hours per year on committee work, mostly during the last few weeks of each year. Membership should be considered a long-term commitment.
