LUCID MARCEL ERMINY CASTILLO INTEGRATED 405 FALL 2018 REVIT 2019

LUCID provides a collaborative space that is able to maximize the pressing needs of Texas A&M - College Station’s growing distance education demands. Glass bricks surround the facade, doubling as windows and a shading system. A ten foot green space was allocated to separate the retaining wall from the building on level -1 in order to bring in natural light. This allowed the glass brick facade to encompass level -1 and extend up to the roof. Creative community spaces are designed as unique group studios throughout an open floor plan to provide a collaborative environment. The auditorium is centrally located with access to the green space with stairs that lead to the plaza. The underpass directs guests into the fitness room and the main floor of the auditorium. Guests walking from Lot 50 through the underpass have an accessible stairway up to the plaza before entering the building as well.

01 LUCID TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE PROFESSOR MARCEL ERMINY CASTILLO YEAR 2018 LOCATION COLLEGE STATION, TX PROGRAM GLOBAL DISTANCE EDUCATION CENTER FOR TEXAS A&M’S INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS LUCID comes from the definition of “expressed clearly” or “easy to understand.” Natural lighting and a minimalist approach were the basis ideas for LUCID. Glass bricks and a clear grid layout made these two ideas possible. The grid was carefully followed throughout all seven floors and developed an organized system of wayfinding for each visitor. Many design principles were influenced by John Maeda and Campo Baeza.

DISTRICT JONG BUM KIM 206 SPRING 2017 REVIT 2017

DISTRICT is a mixed-use building site consisting of a residential living space, retail and a rooftop restaurant and bar. Encouraging growth and innovative companies to expand into the area, DISTRICT seeks to preserve the industrial historic area of Fulton Market District in Chicago, IL. The double-wall facade provides a heat barrier and light filter. Polycarbonate panels wrap the exterior of the building, which allow for a shear light to flow inside. A thick pane of glass encases the interior wall for insulation. The translucent facade allows for LED lighting to be visible from the sidewalk; for both design purposes and protection in the area.

A carefully selected building height allows the courtyard to become secluded from the traffic noise surrounding the site.

SELENITE VAHID VAHDAT ZAD ARCH 305 SPRING 2018 RHINO 5

SELENITE is an alienated exhibition space granting an expanded, unforeseen interior while voiding the exterior materials in a bright ruby. The alienation of common architectural principles awaken the mind to elusive spaces. The alienated elements are climate, clientele, program and site. Each void is unique, therefore producing an unfamiliar rhythm. The void method fabricates balconies in various shapes, sizes and rotations. Similar to a selenite crystal, the abstract balconies trigger brain activity and awareness. Balconies parallel to unattainable platforms cause mental mystification for each occupant. Throughout the entirety of the occupants journey the peculiar structures prevent an understanding of the interior.

04 SELENITE TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE PROFESSOR VAHID VAHDAT ZAD YEAR 2018 LOCATION NOWHERE PROGRAM EXHIBITION SELENITE; a crystal able to stimulate brain activity, increase awareness and symbolize one’s clearest state of mind. By eliminating known elements, such as programs or a specific user, an unrealistic interior was created. Unusual shapes subtracted from interior walls give intriguing unawareness to occupants.

BERGLUND ARCHITECTS 2019 ARCHITECTURAL INTERN REVIT 2019

LYONS RESIDENCE is a private single-family residence located in Vail, Colorado. I joined the three-person team during the charette phase. My contribution to the project was creating 3D drawings in Revit from hand sketches drawn by principal architect, Stephanie Lord-Johnson. Throughout the charette and conceptual design phases, I was integrated with the site plan, 3D Revit drawing and GRFA calculations for the permit submittal.

LOCATION VAIL, COLORADO PROGRAM PRIVATE SINGLE-FAMILY RESIDENCE LYONS allowed me to explore multiple design stages by beginning the 3D Revit drawing, calculating GRFA, importing the existing and proposing the new site plan. Existing topography was used for height limits, the proposed site plan, and GRFA deductions for buried square footage. Material studies were also conducted for the swiss chalet architecture.

ESTES REMODEL BERGLUND ARCHITECTS 2019 ARCHITECTURAL INTERN REVIT 2019

ESTES REMODEL is a private single-family residence located in Vail, Colorado. ESTES was the first project I worked on while starting at the firm alongside a project manager. The remodel consisted of renovating the current deck, replacing and enlarging a majority of windows, configuring the patio door, and paving the driveway.

A 3D matterport camera was used while drawing the original house in Revit. Material studies, deck setbacks, and detail callouts were major parts of this project. Throughout the ESTES REMODEL an in-depth process of detailed CD sets was implicated.

WHITEHURST RESIDENCE BERGLUND ARCHITECTS 2019 ARCHITECTURAL INTERN REVIT 2019

WHITEHURST RESIDENCE is a private single-family residence located in Beaver Creek, Colorado. The project was in the schematic design phase for an interior remodel while I was involved. I contributed to the project through material studies for clients, interior elevation detail sheets, site visits and creating demo plans based off redlines and original floor plans.

I was able to sit in on client meetings, find specific new fireplace options for the clients, and visit the site with the structural engineer. Each room was specified in interior elevation detail sheets to convey elements accurately and clearly.
