T
he prestigious annual Flame Awards was held at the Kalahari Country Club Hall on Friday, 7 June 2013. This event honours the top sport achievers of the various sport clubs affiliated with the Kalahari Country Club. Achievers were recognised for outstanding sport performances during 2012. Each year the event grows in stature and glamour, with this year being no exception. A Sofiatown theme set the tone and the 160 guests were entertained by the MC, Natasha Mashoeu, the band “Obsession Live” and esteemed guest speaker Bruce Fordyce. Bruce holds the record for winning the Comrades Marathon nine times, of which eight wins were consecutive. Sport clubs are requested to submit nominations for their achievers at the beginning of the next year and then a judging panel has the difficult task of deciding who the winners in the various categories will be. All the nominees for these event are truly winners. Club committees put in a huge effort during the year to ensure their clubs remain active. The passion and commitment by club members are exemplary.
