About TROY, OHIO
TROY, OHIO is a prosperous industrial community located on the banks of the Great Miami River in southwestern Ohio, twenty miles North of Dayton. Troy, with a population of over 25,000, does not convey the impression of an industrial city. Rather, it conveys that of a rural town because of the wide, tree-lined streets, clean spacious yards and absence of smoke and dirt usually associated with an industrial community. The city was founded in the early years of the 19th century and was incorporated in 1814. The first means of transportation, other than rails, was the Miami and Erie Canal, built through the city in 1837. In 1808, Benjamin Overfield built the first house in Troy, which still stands at the corner of Water and Mulberry Streets. It served as the first school, inn and church in Troy, as well as the second courthouse in the Miami County. It is now maintained as a museum. 01
