Wetherby Harrogate & District 770 from Harrogate and Leeds

On the banks of the River Wharfe lies the historic market town of Wetherby – winner of Yorkshire in Bloom’s ‘Small Town’ category seven times in the last eight years. Wetherby’s lively Thursday Market was granted by Royal Charter in 1240 and continues to this day. Bag a bargain between 9am and 3pm – there are clothes, fruit and veg, cakes, rugs, stationery, cards and much more. ‘Wedrebi’ was mentioned in The Domesday Book, and is said to mean ram, or ‘wether’, farm. However, many locals will tell you that the name is derived from ‘weather by’, as many bad storms supposedly miss the town… …If it is a fine day (folklore cannot always be relied upon!) you can follow the town’s historical trail, enjoy a stroll along the river and maybe have a picnic overlooking the weir Buses: Harrogate & District 770 from Harrogate and Leeds
