The world’s longest-running electronic music festival, Mysteryland, made its U.S. debut here last Memorial Day weekend and provided us with a great opportunity to share the beauty of our site and the surrounding area with a new generation of music and arts enthusiasts. Close to 20,000 fans were in attendance each day to hear performances by Steve Aoki, Nicky Romero, Kaskade, Moby, and others. It was the first multi-day festival with camping since the 1969 Woodstock festival.

The Woodstock festival is an important part of our American heritage. It was a pivotal cultural and musical event that defined a decade and heralded the values and beliefs of a generation—peace, environmental responsibility, and respect for all. Preserving the site and interpreting its historical and cultural significance
AND BEAUTY. Peace. An ideal rooted in our location as the very soil beneath our feet. That soil nourishes a lush landscape that offers respite and tranquility to all who gather here. A defining moment with continuing relevance: a moment illustrating that generosity of spirit, cooperation, and a love for one another can overcome any obstacle. A harmonious existence, absent of hatred and prejudice. A guiding principle, at the heart of our vision, to inspire individuals to contribute positively to the world around them.
remains a top priority at Bethel Woods. In 2014, we took a major step toward that goal with the completion of our Cultural Landscape Report (CLR), prepared by Heritage Landscapes. The firm has created CLRs for some of the most significant historic sites in the country. The report details recommendations and preservation projects that can provide even greater experiences for our guests, and improves our understanding and interpretation of the historic site. It will also help to position Bethel Woods for significant grant funding, while also raising our profile worldwide over the next several years.

Peaceful, Easy Feeling A sense of peace and place inspires visitors throughout the 800 acres of this hallowed ground. Over 2,000 trees have been planted. Pathways and buildings constructed of cedar posts, timber, stone, and copper roofs open up to magnificent vistas of the surrounding countryside. In 2014, five sculptures by artist Tom Gottsleben captured the changing light of the day over three seasons and complimented the harmony and inherent peace of Bethel Woods’ grounds. The outdoor exhibit, titled What Goes Around Comes Around, highlighted Gottsleben’s blue stone and crystal sculptures, which were described

Improving and revitalizing a once booming tourist area was always a priority to Bethel Woods’ founder and Chairman, Alan Gerry. The dial continues to move toward that goal. Since 2006, 2 million people have visited our world-class cultural center. We are proud to be a leader in encouraging investment in the area and contributing to the opening of a host of new restaurants, boutique stores, art galleries, and even a distillery. These new economic drivers are generating jobs, encouraging spending, and growing private and government revenue. Significant additional growth is on the horizon, signaling a new era for the region.
Kauneonga Lake is just a few miles from Bethel Woods. Locals have dubbed this small community “Restaurant Row,” where residents and visitors dine lakeside at Fat Lady Café, Benji & Jake’s, Local Table and Tap, Barrio Kitchen, and Sticky Fingers Ice Cream, which have all opened since 2006. 32
