Once your account is created, you may search the online catalogue for programming and events. Click the program you want to register for and follow the directions. All online registrations require payment at the time of registering.

You may register in person at the Bird Park Administrative Office, KVPD Rec Center or Ice Valley Centre Ice Arena during business hours.

Native Plant Gardening

Do you want to create a beautiful, low-maintenance, and eco-friendly garden? Join us for this program on gardening with native plants and learn how to select, plant, and care for the plants that are native to your region Native plants have many benefits including water conservation and reducing soil erosion while also providing food and habitat for pollinators. Discover the benefits of native plants and get tips on how to design a native garden with seasonal interest while also learning about local invasive species and how to remove them. Whether you have a small balcony or a large backyard, you can grow native plants and enjoy their beauty and benefits This class meets via Zoom

Jamie Viebach is passionate about native plants. She loves to share her knowledge and experience as a backyard gardener with others interested in making their surroundings a beautiful part of the local ecosystem Jamie believes that native plants are not only beautiful and beneficial, but also essential for fostering a connection to nature and a sense of stewardship among the community During her time with The Conservation Foundation, Jamie shared her love of native plants with the residents of Will County and beyond through her webinar series. 5 Leagues

4 vs. 4 Sand Volleyball League

Bump, set, spike! Gather your friends and join us for our Fall Sand Volleyball League! Co-Ed Sand Volleyball league available starting in August. Four weeks of regular season play followed by a single elimination tournament. Teams will play two games per night.

Games will be played at the Splash Valley Aquatic Park Sand Volleyball Courts, located at 1850 River Rd. in Kankakee.

2 vs. 2 Sand Spikeball League

Spike ball is a team sport played by two teams of two players. Opposing teams’ line up across from each other with the Spike ball net in the center Once the ball is served, players can move anywhere they want The object of the game is to hit the ball into the net so that the opposing team cannot return it! 4 weeks of regular season play followed by a single elimination tournament. All teams will play a double header each night

Games will be played at the Splash Valley Aquatic Park Sand Volleyball Courts, located at 1850 River Rd. in Kankakee.

Adult Softball Leagues

The change in the weather means it's time for Summer Slow Pitch Softball at the River Road Sports Complex! Teams will play 8 regular season games followed by a double elimination tournament. Each team will play a double header each night.

Family Pickleball 101

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the nation. This cross generational sport is fun for the whole family but can also be very competitive Instructional Pickleball is for those who’ve never played before or those needing a better understanding of the rules, scoring and overall play. Newer to pickleball and looking to improve your game? Know the rules, but just need a little something else?

This 4- Week beginners’ program is what you need! Anyone under the age of 16 must have an adult on site during the class.

This class meets at the KVPD Rec Center, located at 150 N Indiana Ave in Kankakee For ages 6+ No class on April 19

Chair Yoga

Chair Yoga is a gentle yoga offering that is appropriate for nearly everyone. Modifications are offered throughout the class, allowing each student to progress at their own pace. All yoga exercises and postures will be done seated in a chair or standing, using the chair to aid with support and balance This class will focus on breath, mind & body awareness as well as connection to your inner self. Increase balance, flexibility and strength. Reduce stress and leave class feeling calm and at peace

May the 4th 5K Run/Walk

NEW!

Join the rebellion, save the empire, or just enjoy bringing out your inner Jedi at our May the 4th Be With You 5K Run/Walk! This untimed race will begin at 10:00 am at the River Road Sports Complex (River Rd & South 1500E Road in Kankakee). Dress up as a Star Wars® character and be entered in to our costume contest! Best dressed male and female will receive FREE entry in to our Fall Color Run!

Go Fishing Day

Dust off those bucket hats and fishing rods and join us at Kankakee Valley Park Districts quarry to celebrate National Go Fishing Day on June 18 at the Bird Park Quarry This event is free to public and is meant to help encourage taking a break from the daily routine by dropping a line - in the nearest stream, pond, lake, or river and catch some fish while relaxing and taking it the great outdoors

In Illinois, anyone under the age of 16 is not required to have a fishing license. Anyone over the age of 16 must provide a valid Illinois fishing license in order to participate in the event

In conjunction to the Unplug Illinois campaign, the Kankakee Valley Park District will be offering a free yoga in the park class on July 13 taught by our very own Chair Yoga instructor Jeanna Vent This event will be doing entry level/basics of yoga while helping to promote participants to put aside their electronics and enjoy nature

Table tennis is an Olympic and world championship sport utilizing a ball and paddle, played on a flat table divided into two equal courts by a net fixed across its width at the middle The lightweight hollow ball is volleyed back and forth across the net by small paddles held by the players It can be played as a singles or doubles game Beginners and advanced players of all ages are welcome!

Grab a paddle: We've got the hottest new game for you to add to your list of winter activities. It's called pickleball. And in case you missed it, it's everywhere these days! This fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong, all wrapped up in one fun game! Family Open Gym is for all ages Senior Open Gym is for ages 55+. Adult Learn to Skate

This program introduces the beginner adult skater to the basics of skating As skaters advance, new and exciting skills such as jumps, spins, footwork and artistic elements will be introduced. This class also promotes physical fitness and improves balance and coordination while learning proper skating techniques. Divided into six levels, adult skaters will progress at an individual rate while being challenged and motivated.

For ages 13+ All weekly classes are 45 minutes of instructional time and skate rental is included A Learn to Skate USA Membership is required

Parents join in on the fun of the development of your young hockey players This will be working on simple basics of skating and moving pucks around. Learn to Curl

Interested in learning to curl but short on time? Give our two week Learn to Curl class a try! During the first week of class, learn the basics of curling with instructors Scott and Debbie Buchanan. During the second week of class, prepare for and play a curling match.

For ages 15+ All curlers must have clean shoes with a grip Dress warm!

Developed for older teens and adults, our program gives adult swimmers at every level the opportunity to improve their skills in a safe environment – and under the guidance of a trained instructor. Consisting of four comprehensive levels, each level teaches swimmers of varying ages and abilities how to swim skillfully and safely Each level includes training in basic water safety Our objective of the Adult program is to teach people to swim and be safe in and around the water

Cantigny Park and War Museum is a hidden gem of outdoor recreation and U.S. history located in beautiful Wheaton, Illinois Join us as we honor the 80th anniversary of the storming of the beaches of Normandy on D-Day by visiting this memorial that tells the story of U.S. First Army Division in various military conflicts Did you know the First Division was once commanded by the publisher of the Chicago Tribune, Colonel Robert R McCormick? There are over 500 acres to enjoy, including replicas of trenches from World War 1, several tanks, and McCormick's legendary mansion Please be sure to bring a sack lunch or money for food; transportation only is included in the program fee.

When Joy Morton established The Morton Arboretum in 1922, he envisioned a great outdoor museum of trees Today, theMorton Arboretum is a living collection that inspires visitors to appreciate, learn about, plant, and protect trees.
