SITE LOCATION: Barlowganj, Mussoorie, Uttarakhand CLIMATE: Cold BRIEF: To design a hub for the local community in Barlowganj, Mussoorie close to the St. George college. (In a group of two students)

The facility should include a Children’s Library, a Creche, a Multi-purpose Hall and a cafeteria, and may or may not include a play area. The design should be carried out using local materials and techniques for building with provisions for earthquake resistance and climatic requirements, with the use of Passive strategies for human comfort.


SITE LOCATION: Ravindra Manch, Jaipur CLIMATE: Hot and dry BRIEF: To redeisgn the facade and entrance lobby of the Ravindra Manch and incorporate passive design strategies in the design. (In a group of two students) The redesign included a performance theater located in a double-heighted atrium and an exhibition gallery located on the first floor that can also use the external ramp as a walk-through gallery. Two internal courtyards facilitate required air movement in the space as the design was required to use Passive strategies for human comfort, without the use of electricity, for a major part of the day. SITE LOCATION: Chanakyapuri, New Delhi CLIMATE: Composite N

BRIEF: To design an office building (Mid-rise) for the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs - Pravasi Bharatiya Bhawan.

The Building should have a provision for a public access auditorium, an exhibition centre, a library and a business centre. The Building should also house an office for the Minister of state for the concerned ministry as well. The building requires the use of Passive and Active design strategies for human comfort, including a basic knowledge of all the required HVAC systems.

BRIEF:

To Design a Community-based skill development centre managed by a Women’s Co-Operative in Khirki Urban Village near the Khirki Mosque to train and sustain skill sets of the local population. The Institution should be able to teach and generate income for the operating body as well as the individuals. The Design should incorporate Passive Design Strategies for human comfort.

SITE LOCATION: Kanadukathan, Tamilnadu VIew from the OAT

BRIEF: To design a weavers’ cooperative centre for the local artisans of Kanadukathan housing a workshop and exhibition cum sales area for the products, namely handloom and day-to-day objects.

After studying the settlement in the Chettinad region of Tamilnadu at Kanadukathan, the project required an understanding of the art of weaving as well as the history associated with the place. The requirements of the building were to include a sales and exhibition area, a multipurpose hall, a workshop/workspace for weaving and guest houses for staying at the site.
