Marie Dora Schafer of Mora died on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016. She was 72 years old. She was born on April 18, 1944, at home in Buffalo Lake to John Arthur and Gladys (Klucas) Schafer. She grew up on the family farm, the third of four sibllings. She attended Buffalo L Lake Public School for a few y years. Later she attended tthe Renville County Day Acttivity Center at Bird Island. She was confirmed and b became a member of the E Evangelical United Brethrren Church, now the United M Methodist Church of Buffallo Lake in 1958 and attended rregularly with family. After her three brothers g grew up and left home, she c continued to live with her mother and Aunt Frances on the family farm. In 1991 she moved to Mora to the Brighter Day Residence to be near her brother, Dan. She worked at Industries Inc. She enjoyed bowling, shopping and other outings with housemates. She liked friendly banter with friends, family, teachers and caregivers. When someone needed help she was quick to offer assistance. She was loved by family and many others who knew her. She will be missed, but we are thankful that she is now experiencing the fullness of God’s presence. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by brothers, David (Jeanne) of Manhattan, Kansas, Daniel (Karen) of Mora and Burton (Virginia) of Olathe, Kansas; nieces and nephews, Jeffrey, Jason, Eric, Heidi, Mindy, Derek, Jeremy and Mark and “sisters,” Jane Lindquist, Jill Gilbertson and Deena Skogman. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora with Rev. Dean Oelfke officiating. Graveside service and burial will be held in the spring at Zion Evangelical Cemetery in Buffalo Lake. Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to Brighter Day Residence of Mora or Zion United Methodist Church of Buffalo Lake. Arrangements handled by Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora. Elwood “Bud” L. Blesi Sr. of Mora died on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, at his home. He was 85 years old. He was born March 18, 1931, in Anoka at Dr. Gates Hospital to parents, Arthur Sr. and Grace (Livgard) Blesi. He grew up on the family farm in Anoka, the second of eight siblings. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from April 19, 1949, through Nov. 19, 1952, spending 13 months of his service in Korea during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Neoma Dietrich in 1953. To this union four children were born. In 1964 he was united in marriage to Dolores Chamberlain. To this union two children were born. He was a hard worker. Over the years he worked for Hoffman Engineering and Kanabec County as the senior mini bus driver. He went to school for barbering and did that for several years. He farmed continuously throughout his life. He enjoyed working, reading, playing his accordion and giving advice. He had a strong faith in God that sustained him through the joys and sorrows of life. He will be remembered for many things but most of all for his wit and humor. He was preceded in death by wife, Dolores; son, Elwood Jr.; sisters, Mary Jensen and Jacqueline Turner and son-in-law, Gale “Gabe” Tappe. He is survived by children, Joan Tappe of Coupeville, Washington, Paul (Tami) Blesi of Minneapolis, Gail (David) Otten of Coupeville, Washington, Roberta (Brad) Sjodin of Ogilvie and Fran Livgard of Red Wing; stepchildren, Carol Dmytryszyn of Cambridge, Steven Chamberlain of St. Cloud, Michael Chamberlain of Anoka, Brian (Deb) Chamberlain of Vadnais Heights and Mark (Brenda) Chamberlain of Abilene, Kansas; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers, Arthur Blesi Jr. of Coon Rapids and Harry Blesi of Askov; sisters, Sonja (Jim) Stewart of Cedar, Carole Becker of Santa Anna, California and Jane Stevens of Ham Lake and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at Living Hope Church in Mora with Reverend Stephen Ekholm officiating. Inurnment was in the Fish Lake Cemetery in Mora. Wesley Eric Lundeen died on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at the Ecumen Parmly LifePointes in Chisago City. He was 93 years old. He was born Jan. 12, 1923, in Lindstrom to Eric and Esther (Hallberg) Lundeen. He attended and graduate ed from Mechanic Arts High S School in St. Paul. He served iin the U.S. Army from 1942445, stationed in California. On Jan. 14, 1955, he was u united in marriage to Grace W Weidenaar at Gloria Dei Luttheran Church in St. Paul. S Shortly after their marriage tthe couple settled in Bloomiington which was home to tthem for many years. In 1968 the couple adopte ed a baby boy whom they named Todd. Wes worked various jobs involving sales throughout his life. He was a natural in dealing with people. He never had a problem in starting up a conversation. Several years following retirement he and his wife moved to Mora. Failing health prompted the couple to move to assisted living at GracePointe Crossing in Cambridge and eventually Ecumen Parmly LifePointes in Chisago City. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Norman; sister-in-law, Marian and stepmother Doris. He is survived by wife, Grace; son, Todd; brother-inlaw, Elkie Weidenaar and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Mora with visitation one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Mora. NOTICES ORDINANCE NO. 447 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CONDITION OF LICENSE FOR ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MORA, KANABEC COUNTY, MINNESOTA HEREBY ORDAINS: Section 1. That section 112.32 of the Mora City Code is hereby repealed and recreated to read as follows: § 112.32 CONDITIONS OF LICENSE The failure of the licensee to meet any one (1) of the conditions of the license specified below shall result in a suspension of the license until the condition is met. (A) A licensee shall require all of its employees or agents who serve alcoholic beverages at a licensed premises successfully complete an annual program of responsible beverage server training except as indicated below. (1) This provision applies to licensees holding any alcoholic beverage license. (2) The city shall provide a list of responsible beverage server training programs approved by the city council to licensees. (3) Within ninety (90) days after employment, every person selling or serving alcoholic beverages in a licensed premises shall successfully complete said training. (4) Certificates of attendance indicating proof of such training shall be maintained on the licensed premises. A copy of said
certificates shall be provided to the city at the time of application for renewal of license. Any renewal application not containing the certificates of training attendance shall be deemed incomplete. (5) Organizations applying for temporary on-sale 3.2 malt liquor licenses or temporary on-sale intoxicating liquor licenses shall provide a certificate of attendance indicating proof of training for the member of the organization responsible for alcohol beverage service at the organization’s event. This person shall be responsible for training all servers of alcoholic beverages. A list of the names of those trained and serving at the event shall be prepared by the responsible person and submitted to the city within ten (10) business days of the end of the event. Failure to do so shall disqualify the organization from obtaining licenses from the city in the future. (6) Attendance at the training session does not alleviate applicants from civil and/or criminal penalties for a violation of this chapter. (B) Every licensee is responsible for the conduct of the place of business and the conditions of sobriety and order in it. The act of any employee on the licensed premises is deemed the act of the licensee as well, and the licensee shall be liable to all penalties provided by this chapter and the law equally with the employee. (C) Every licensee shall allow any peace officer, health officer, city employee, or any other person designated by the Council to conduct compliance checks and to otherwise enter, inspect, and search the premises of the licensee during business hours and after business hours during the time when customers remain on the premises
without a warrant. (D) No on-sale establishment shall display liquor to the public during hours when the sale of liquor is prohibited. (E) Compliance with financial responsibility requirements of state law and of this chapter is a continuing condition of any license. Section 2. That this ordinance shall become effective upon its passage and publication. The foregoing ordinance was introduced and moved for adoption by Council Member Bollenbeck and seconded by Council Member Treiber.
