Obituaries & In Memoriam A.L. (Larry) Steffens It is with great sadness that we regret to share with you the recent passing of Arthur “Larry” Lawrence Steffens on January 22, 2017 in Kamloops, BC at age 79. Larry was surrounded with love, having his wife Barb, daughter Elva and brother Allan (Ruth) by his side. Survived by his son’s Mike and Arthur, daughters Elva, Juanita and Leanne, grandchildren Michael, James, Amanda, Connor, Bradly and greatgrandchild Jordon. Larry’s siblings Jim (Elain), Donnie (Ken), Allan ( Ruth ), Tricia (Joe) and Good Friends Isy and Trudi and so many other friends, to many to mention. Larry was born in Merritt, BC on December 26 1937, where he lived and happily worked the Steffens’ Brothers Ranch “The Lazy L”, for many many years. We will all miss his big heartfelt ways, his laughter, many joyful stories, his playful joking mannerisms, but most of all his love. Thank you to the Nurses and Physicians at RIH for taking such good care of him during his lengthy stay.

Alfred Law Alf passed away in his sleep on Wednesday, January 25, 2017. His passing was unexpected for his family; perhaps not so much for him. His children all talked to him in person a few hours before he went to bed Tuesday evening. The last thing he said was “I have lived as long as I wanted”. He went to sleep that night and passed away peacefully. Alf is survived by his children Bonita (Noel “Skip”) Gopsill of Kamloops, BC, David (Betty Graham) Law of Coquitlam, BC, Sheryl (Chris Glazier) Law of Vancouver, BC, Randall Law of Kamloops, BC, Marilee (Mo) Yee of South Hazelton, BC, and Bill (Meaghan) Wade of Kamloops, BC. He was also survived by grandchildren Michelle (Chris), Teresa (Jason), George (Sara), Liz, Brianne, Morgan, Regan, Nolan, Steven (Sabrina), Sean, Kelsey, Rachel and great-grandchildren Austin, Taylor, Amber, Thomas and Sadie, as well as brother Richard (Mary) Law and sister Queenie Lance. He was also survived by the last love of his life Ronnie Pepplar. Alf was predeceased by his first wife Leonie (Gueulette) Law in 1971 and his second wife Frances (Wade) Law in 2013. Alf was born in 1926 in New Westminster, BC. He was active in sports from a very young age and was an avid reader, historian, mathematician, square dancer, ballroom dancer, seamstress and sports officiator. First and foremost though, he was a teacher - in every situation. He loved all sports, played and officiated every sport he could. He especially loved volleyball, playing his last game at the age of 85. In 2008, he was inducted into the Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame. For many years he was an active volunteer for many organizations including the Catholic Church, the Lion’s Club, Tranquille Hospital Complex, Cub Scouts and the Kamloops Elementary Sports Council. He taught a generation of children to dance. For many years, he raised money for the Cancer Society participating in the Longest Day of Golf, playing as many as 8 ½ rounds of golf on the longest day of the year. Alf loved poetry. He wrote poems at every occasion, from dinners to birthdays, weddings to funerals. He recited countless poems from memory, even into his old age. One of his favourites was “The Cremation of Sam McGee”, which he could still recite at the age of 89. Alf, like his older brother Cecil (his hero), was a remarkable man, with a broad range of interests, skills and expertise, a true polymath. He was an inspirational teacher and mentor to many. He wasn’t perfect but we loved him. He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched. A Celebration of Alf’s Life will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 4th, 2017 at the Unifor Hall, 427 Lansdowne St., Kamloops, BC.
