About me

My name is Kamie, I’m a 27 year old product developer. I live in Wijnegem which is located near Antwerp in Belgium. I am a social, creative and active person, who is not afraid to take charge and knows what she wants.

My character is easily seen in my design style, which contains lots of color and geometric surfaces with a hint of playful elements. I am very interested in design for interaction, eco-design and design for usability. I want to develop products which people can use with ease and pleasure while having low impact on nature.

Since I was a kid, my parents took me traveling all over the world. This made me in to the globetrotter that I am today. No adventure is too big for me, this is seen in my favorite hobbies: horseback riding, wing foiling, Thai boxing & mountain biking.

Projects

Smaak

Smaak is a product service system designed to prevent childhood obesity. It is a school cooking program that tries to involve the pa rents and children, it teaches a healthy living style. To encourage healthy cooking and habits Smaak created trading cards with recipes on, the recipes are created by Smaak, the teacher and the parents. Nothing is more fun than having a trading card with your dad’s chicken recipe on.

Smaak also works with cooking degrees and special aprons. Each cooking level has a special color apronband. These aprons can also be personalized by the students. Smaak will be a part of the children’s education from an age of 6 year till 12 year.

MorphThis is “Morph”, Morph is a smart flowerpot that tells you how your plants are feeling. By using a humidity and weight sensor Morph can tell if your plant needs water and by using a lux sensor it detects if the plant has enough light. Morph was designed to provoke rich interactions with the user. When Morph is unhappy, it will start to shrink. If he needs attention he will start to wiggle when someone passes by. In the app the user can find extra information about his/her plants, add plants and see the their achievements.

For the user test a wizard of Oz prototype was created, an Arduino code was written and a functional app was made in Adobe XD.

The triangle fabric which gives Morph its particular design is mainly 3D-printed. First a base was printed then the printer was paused and a piece of fabric was placed on the base, then the printer resumed printing and finally the lasered pieces of wood were glued on to the fabric.

Waste concept

Some eco-minded airlines are interested to sort their trash onboard of the aircraft. Currently all trash is dumped together and gets burned, even if some of the trash is recyclable. “De ster”, the company where I did my internship, wanted to make a big eco-friendly change in this process. The waste concept had to be compact, lightweight and user friendly. The waste concept makes it possible for the crew to sort the paper and the plastic cups, so they can get recycled in to new ones. The concept contains a housing that fits in the waste trolleys and two cardboard clamps that lock the garbage bags in to place. When the waste concept is not in use it is easily folded up and stored in the waste trolley. For optimal stacking in the bag, the crew can make piles of the cups. When a certain height is reached they can push the cups in to the garbage bag.

To lock the bags in to place they have to be pulled over the clamps and the harpoon connection. Then the clamps are pushed on to the cardboard housing using the harpoon connectors.

BLIB

Blib or blindism buddy is a blindism aid. Blindisms are the stereotypes movements the people born with a visual impairment unknowingly perform from an age of 3 years. It is caused by a lack of stimulation and can provoke social and medical problems. Blib creates awareness of these movements, so there is no more need for a second party to tell the user he/she is performing a blindism. It contains a sensor, tree kind of mounts, a charging station and a application. Blib will create awareness and control over blindisms by vibrating when a blindisms occurs, now the user can integrate into the society without any stigmatization.

The hairband for women and glasses mount for men are designed to be discrete and acceptable for every gender. They measure the head and upper body blindisms, the arm mount will measure the hand and arm blindisms.

The charging station will tell the user how his or her day has been in comparison to other days. After wards it will play an victory song or an encouragement song depending on the day. This will motivate the person to continue the control process.
