What’s poppin’, Ninjas! My name is Jeanna Paalam and I serve as your Webmaster and News Editor for the 2020-2021 term! I am currently a Freshman and serving my first term as a Key Club officer. A few fun facts about me are that I serve as an ASB officer, enjoy all kinds of art and music (hit me up with suggestions <3), and can’t wait for the rest of this term! It has been a rough couple of weeks out here in quarantine, so I hope this finds you in good health. Stay safe out there and enjoy the first edition of our GAHR KEY CLUB NEWSLETTER! Kickin’ for service,

GAHR KEY CLUB WEBMASTER

Hi-YA, Ninjas! My Name is Kai Noah Jugo and I proudly serve as your Historian and News Editor for the 2020-2021 Term! One month has flew by so quickly and it has been quite the the learning experience. Here’s a little bit about me. I will be entering my sophomore year at Gahr and my first year on our club’s board. I play volleyball, love musical theatre, and grabbing boba with friends after DCMs. This term has started out rough, so I hope this issue brings a smile. Enjoy! Kickin’ for service,

HI-YAH Gahr Key Club! My name is Julia Saguin and I proudly serve as your President for the 2020-2021 term! I am SO excited to see what is in store for our club & I can wait to go back to school and have events with all of you in person! I’m so proud of each and every one of you for continuing to be AMAZING members and participating in as much as you can despite this pandemic! Some other things about me are that I also serve as the Division Fundraising Coordinator! I’m currently a Sophomore, previously served as the Key Club Service Project Coordinator and have served as an ASB Officer as Commissioner of Clubs for two years now! Feel free to come to me for anything, don’t hesitate to ask me about school or Key Club & let’s become friends! Thank you to every single member and officer for working hard and participating. Please stay safe, practice social distancing, and stay clean! Enjoy the first issue of the term and hype up our news editors for their AMAZING work.

Julia Saguin Position: President Grade: 10 Favorite Key Club Moment: Rose Float decorating! I love bonding with our home club members while meeting new people. It was cold & vials were so painful but I wouldn’t trade it for anything else.

Samantha Villa Position: Vice President Grade: 11 Favorite Key Club Moment: My favorite Key CLub memory would definitely have to be the Division Origami Service Event. Despite the circumstances, the outcome was amazing! It was so much fun making and learning how to make different animals and ninja stars with friends on Zoom <33

08

Abigail Trinh Position: Vice President Grade: 11 Favorite Key Club Moment: For our home club service week we made peanut butter jelly sandwiches and it was so fun making the sandwiches with my friends. I especially loved how we made it a competition to see who can make the most sandwiches. (Obviously it was my group that won) and we were all having fun together.

Jayani Devkota Position: Vice President Grade: 11 Favorite Key Club Moment: My favorite key club moment was October DCM :-) this was because I dressed up as a frat boy along with my friend Amanda & we all became friends after we laughed at our costumes. We all decided to participate in the costume contest as a group and even if we didn’t win, it was really fun. We took a bunch of pictures & had a festive night! <3

Ruth Rapuri Position: Secretary Grade: 10 Favorite Key Club Moment: My favorite key club moment was attending the rose float parade! It was such a great experience to bond with my home club and truly get to know eachother better. Although the work was tedious, it was so much fun to do it together with my fellow key clubbers as well as new people that I met. Seeing the floats come together in the end during the parade was an unforgettable experience!

09

Ayen Pascua Position: Treasurer Grade: 10 Favorite Key Club Moment: Special Olympics Christmas party was my first key club event and it truly sparked my passion for service. I was able to bond with more people from my home club and help others in the process.

Kai Noah Jugo Position: Historian Grade: 9 Favorite Key Club Moment: My favorite key club moment would be all of the spirit sessions! Spirit sessions were the times I had the most fun at the hall. I loved the adrenaline in the air and I feel it got me so much closer to the people I was learning cheers with!

Kainoa Rojas Position: Member Recognition Chair Grade: 9 Favorite Key Club Moment: The Kiwanis Christmas party was for sure my favorite event to attend! It was super fun seeing everyone so happy and on top of that the food was great lol.

10

Iris Ji Position: Webmaster Grade: 11 Favorite Key Club Moment: Night market DCM! That was my first key club event that I could attend after practice and although I was tired I had fun taking photos, getting married, and meeting new people.

Jeanna Paalam Position: Webmaster Grade: 9 Favorite Key Club Moment: PixaRTC! RTC was the first key club event I attended and I loved it! Getting that taste of Fall Rally through bonding with others and that overall spirit was the best opening into my club experience.

Ethan Madjus Position: Service Project Coordinator Grade: 11 Favorite Key Club Moment: My favorite key club memory would be going to DCM with my friends and laughing so hard because we could never be serious.

Service Weeks!

Be on the lookout for new service weeks being promoted by the division or by other clubs! They can be found on their instagram and be sure to tag the division or club when you post your acts of service!

Card Making! The division often promotes card making for teachers, frontliners, and parents. This serve event is a great way to show your appreciation and earn service hours during quarantine.

Donating! If you can, donating to the PTP fund can greatly impact an even greater amount of people. Another alternative would be donating canned goods and clothes to those in need.

Our board doing the E-Lemon-Ate challenge

In the month of May, our club participated in Eliminate Week. This is a week dedicated to eliminating Maternal and Neonatal tetanus (MNT) by providing vaccines to women to protect her and her future children. On Monday, our club was encouraged to share an educational graphic and fun facts about MNT and spread the word. On Tuesday, our members gave up something they frequently buy and by saving that money, made a small donation to the eliminate project. Wednesday, our club was challenged to take a video of ourselves eating a lemon to spread awareness on MNT. On Thursday, our members posted their best #TBT photos to support mothers and babies affected by the disease. Finally, on Friday, our members participated in our division’s fundraiser for the Eliminate Project. During Eliminate week, our club helped provide vaccines and spread education on MNT.

Mary Sabarre // Member Grade: 10 In the month of May, I was able to participate in the Mother’s day event! In the event I was able to make a card for my mother showing her my love and appreciation for everything she does and get service hours in return. It was a great way to not only show the appreciation for our mothers but also being able to get service hours as well. Overall the mother’s day event was great and I’m glad I was able to participate!

Angelika Lopez // Member Grade: 11 The division service week was really fun and it showed how we can help our community in any little possible way. By participating in it, it let me go around the house and let me do things in Order to be more involved with the club and community. I participated on the diy masks and recycle Wednesday, and it was really fun to do!
