Happy New Year and welcome to 2017! Are you loving our cover? Lyndie Greenwood of Sleepy Hollow graces the winter issue cover and I couldn’t be more excited! As both a fan of the show and Lyndie, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have her as a cover star. What better way to ring in 2017? I have to give an extra special thank you to her agent Angela Mach as none of this would have been possible without her. So, have you noticed our new design? Matthew Vita, my amazing webitorial designer, has come on board with the issue. It’s beautiful and I couldn’t be more ecstatic! Inside this issue there are a number of reasons for me to be grateful! We have celebrity interviews with Katelyn Nacon, Andrey Ivchenko AND Kritchaya “Lolita” Boonhor. We have a special feature with up and coming designer Florence Bridge and a wonderful editorial by Ole Martin Halvorsen featuring a myriad of Norwegian designers. Not to mention heaps of beautiful editorial content and beauty. I can’t say how honored I am so present the winter issue to all of our readers! I sincerely hope you find as much joy in this issue as it brings me. Happy New Year, lovelies! xoxo, Lynzi

Nacon world Interview by Olivia Louden

photographer Shanna Fisher stylist Stephanie Gutierrez hair and make-up artist Dee Daly

She may only be seventeen years old, but actress Katelyn Nacon has already starred in multiple network TV shows and recorded an album, all while still balancing her work with high school. Having gained experience in shows such as Resurrection and Too Many Cooks, in 2015 she joined the cast of AMC’s The Walking Dead as Enid, a teenage girl who sees her parents murdered and is forced to set off by herself before being taken in at the Alexandria Safe-Zone. I had the chance to ask Katelyn all about her album, her previous experiences in television, and what it’s like walk onto the set of such a popular show.

Olivia Louden [OL]: Why don’t we start by getting to know a little about you? What projects do you have in the works? Katelyn Nacon [KN]: I just finished Season Seven of The Walking Dead and the Season Two of T@ gged, which I’m so excited about. Season 2 of T@gged should be out in 2017.

OL: What was it like to record your album? KN: It was a great learning experience and I got to finally create a product from all my hard work. I can’t wait to start on the next one.

OL: Think you’ll want to record another? KN: Of course! I always have new songs and new ideas to help in advancing my music. I hope to have more time after I graduate from High School.

OL: What can you tell me about your show T@gged? KN: It’s a teenage thriller about these three girls who get caught up in the dark side of the internet and social media. It’s a beautiful show and I’m very grateful to be a part of it.

OL: I hear you wrote several original songs for it. What is your songwriting process like?

OL: I hear you got your start on the show “Resurrection.” How did that prepare you for your role on the Walking Dead?

KN: My EP was actually all originals that I wrote over the years. When I write a song it’s usually based off a strong emotion or thought I have that day that I need to get out.

KN: It was my first network role and a great experience to help me understand working on set. It helped me understand how set worked better for when TWD

happened. I got to speak with Kurtwood Smith a bunch between shots too.

OL: What’s it like kissing your friend Chandler Riggs?

O: What advice can you give to other teenagers who want to break into the business?

KN: It’s really kind of awkward because he’s just a friend. I’m sure it was the same for him.

K: You have to love it and be completely committed because there’s a lot of rejection and competition that comes with it, that can make it very hard sometimes.

OL: Can you give us any insight into Enid’s mysterious past?

OL: Okay, let’s get to The Walking Dead. What was it like to walk onto the set of such a popular show for the first time? Were you a fan of the show before you got the part?

KN: All I know is what the audience knows really, it’s that her parents died and she was on her own for a while. Not sure if there is anything else that has not been shown.

KN: I had never seen the show before but that still didn’t help with all the nerves I had for starting my first big role. My first day the entire cast was there so it was a little intimidating. That usually does not happen on TWD where the whole cast is there at once. Andy Lincoln walked across set to where I was standing in the window of that burned out house and welcomed me to set. It was so nice of him. I think I met everyone that day, but I kept getting shuffled off for school time.

OL: What’s next for Enid?

“ “ “You have to love it and be completely committed because there’s a lot of rejection and competition that comes with it…” OL: How would you describe Enid to someone who’s never seen the show? What are her motivations?

KN: Without trying to spoil too much, she’s been traumatized, making herself very closed off. Therefore, she makes it hard for anyone to get close to her, and she’s afraid to get close to anyone else. All she wants to do is survive.

KN: We might finally get to see her open up a little, especially with Maggie. Now that she is at hilltop she has a whole new world of possibilities. OL: Do you experience any character bleed? KN: When I play my characters, I put myself through their situations mentally in order to come across more authentic. I can usually shake that off because my characters have some pretty different backgrounds than I do. People are surprised when they meet me at conventions at how nice I am and smile so much. My characters so far don’t smile a whole lot. OL: Any clues you can give us about what’s to come?

KN: For TWD, not much more than what I have said, unless I have death wish. I really can’t wait for everyone to see Season 2 of T@gged. It will be better than the first. I’m always auditioning for new roles, so you never know. Had a great callback last week!

OL: What’s going to happen between Enid and Carl? How would describe their relationship?

KN: You’ll have to watch to find that out, Sorry. I would say their relationship is definitely a love hate one though.

Francesco Zinno PFW Street Style by Olivia Louden

Italian street photographer Francesco Zinno knows what it’s like to work for a good shot. I was able to ask him about life chasing after those photos, and found out a bit about his connection to his work, the challenges of street photography, and a near run-in with Gigi Hadid. Â

11 | JUTE MAGAZINE

Chiara Ferragni

Anna Dello Russo

Olivia Louden [OL]: Tell me a little about yourself. How did you get into photography? Francesco Zinno [FZ]: I was born in a little town in the South of Italy, a place where photography is considered more as a hobby rather than a professional career. Long story short, when I was 11 I received my first compact camera, that I broke after few months. So you can easily understand how surprised I was when my aunt, a photographer that always inspired me, gave me my first serious camera, a Canon EOS 550 D, as a gift for my birthday. I didn’t even touch it for a while. Past that crisis I started taking pictures of my friends, and I discovered that photography was my biggest passion and when I finished High School I decided to leave the little town in-the-middle-of-nowhere and go to London to study photography and make my dream come true ( Pretty cheesy right?! ). OL: What is the number one thing you look for when you take your photos? FZ: I love to shoot things that capture my attention. It is all about what catches my eyes, a visual bond between me and any subject I am interested in. That works no matter if I am shooting street style, in studio or just outside

randomly. Honestly I would say that it just depends. OL: How does a person’s individual style affect how you shoot them? FZ: That’s a good one. As I said I am a very visual-type-ofperson, but it is not enough. When you are shooting street style there is not a lot of time to create a complex shot, and it makes everything harder by the fact that you don’t know personally the people you are taking pictures of. For me, when I am shooting someone, it’s important to know a bit of who is in front of the camera, in order to be able in a way to catch the real essence of the model, or whoever I am photographing. During the fashion weeks I would say that I let myself follow the clothes more than the people themselves, trying to create a harmonic composition and shoot as many spontaneous pictures as possible. OL: What are some of the biggest technical and artistic differences between street photography and shooting in a studio? FZ: What I love about street style is that it is incredibly frenetic. Everyone is always in a rush, and you need to keep yourself alerted and focused every moment. It is very easy to miss a nice shot, and when you miss Gigi Hadid walking into her car after the Giambattista Valli show, you just blame yourself and that minute you spent smoking that cigarette just around the corner, and ( trust me ) that is not a good feeling after a week of shooting non-stop. Whatever,

I would say that anyways street style is an incredible practice: when you shoot in studio, you have time to set up everything you need (lights, model, poses) and you can experiment whatever you want. However, when you are shooting street style, with so many photographers pushing each other to get the best shot and continuously changing light you cannot be lazy, and that’s a very nice exercise. J: Finally, where are some of your favorite places that you’ve photographed at? Every single place I had visited gave me something, something that inspired me. I would say that so far Sydney and Budapest are on the top of my chart.

BRIDGE AW16 WARM AND COOL CONNOTATIONS

by Sonam Naidu

Elevating the synchronization of her classic and contemporary aesthetic through the harmonious mix of digital printed silks, patchwork leather and shearling textures, Florence Bridge sincerely dedicated herself to creating timeless and wearable statement pieces for her novelty AW16 collection. With her unremitting passion to collect extraordinary materials for the composition of out of the ordinary textures, the first - class design degree title holder surely didn’t fall short of exhibiting a brilliant color story of warm and cool connotations for her foremost showcase. Enthused by the infamous appliqued blanket craftsmanship of Tracy Emin’s ‘Hotel International 1993’, luscious powder pinks and heavenly wines painted the runway in an array of elaborate patchworked leather and shearling pieces. Florence transitioned her showcase from pleasantly dark and comforting to fresh and innovative through the incorporation of the seasons ‘IT’ neutrals – navy blues, soft grey’s and blacks. In storm like hues, hand painted prominent brush strokes were altered into digital prints for her collection’s revamped, 10 | JUTE MAGAZINE

GREENWOOD photographer Randy Tran stylist Sarah Kinsumba hairstylist Victor Mendoza make-up artist Jadyn Ngo using MAC Cosmetics

by Becca Be

Canadian actress Lyndie Greenwood took some time out of her busy shooting and pre-holiday schedule to chat with Becca Be a bit about life, the supernatural, elections, and the beauty of being a “lazy.” Greenwood plays Jennifer Mills on the Fox hit series Sleepy Hollow.

shows such as Lost Girl, Saving Hope, and a recurring role on the CW’s Nikita (Sonya; 2011- 2013). Her most famous role is that of Jennifer Mills in Sleepy Hollow, where she plays the treasure hunting, roguish wild-child sister to protagonist Abbie Mills, played by Nicole Behaire.

From a young age, Lyndie loved performing and singing. Her stage life bloomed out of this love and she attended Etobicoke School of the Arts (ESA) as a Music Theatre major for her first year of high school. She quickly discovered it wasn’t for her. “I switched to a drama major for the next year, and realized I didn’t like that either.” When asked about what she didn’t like about the stage, Lyndie said frankly, “I didn’t enjoy the style of performance. It all felt very big, and I suppose I couldn’t find a way to be honest in it. I think that big-ness is what a lot of people love about it, and it definitely can be fun to watch. I just didn’t enjoy studying it. I actually auditioned for the program initially because I loved to sing jazz, but within the program, I never got to do that.”

Becca Be (BB): Did you think that Sleepy Hollow would take off like it has?

After leaving ESA to attend S.E.E.D. Alternative School (Shared Experience Exploration Discovery), the oldest alternative secondary school in North America. She fell in love with science, and continued her scientific studies at the University of Toronto, where she ultimately achieving a Bachelors of Science in 2006. Then, as many science majors do, she decided she wanted to be an actor. Post-graduation she had a few roles, but finally got her breakout in the short kung fu film, Little Phoenix and the Reign of Fists (2010). A veteran of martial arts with 10 years studying Shaolin Kung Fu, a friend of Lyndie’s offered her the starring role of Phoenix. That experience is what solidified the realization that she wanted to pursue being an actor. From that role, Lyndie has gone on to appear in television

Lyndie Greenwood (LG): I didn’t expect the level of success we’ve seen. I was not a part of the pilot, but when I saw ads for it, I was really intrigued by the idea. I’ve always loved the Headless Horseman, but I wondered how someone could pull off making a show about Sleepy Hollow. When I was asked to audition, I was really excited to potentially be a part of such a unique project. I’ve always loved the horror and sci-fi genres for entertainment. I also love to research the supernatural. I suppose you could say this show is right up my alley! I like to read about “hauntings” mostly. I also love to do ghost tours when I travel. Hunting and researching the supernatural is not something that Lyndie leaves on the lot when she takes off her Jenny Mills makeup. With her degree from the University of Toronto and her love of knowledge, research, and study, there are many loves that Lyndie shares with her character. “I admire so much the scientists that research and make discoveries making our world what it is!” A longtime study of the supernatural has led to some encounters of the otherworldly kind. During the second season of Sleepy Hollow, Lyndie and her roommate Katia Winter, who plays the witch Katrina, were living in Wilmington. “We had some weird experiences in our house. Curtains would open and close on their own. We

saw inexplicable hand and foot-prints. My puppy would wake up in the middle of the night, and growl at things that I could not see. It was all very bizarre! Sounds terrifying now, but at the time - well, yeah - it was pretty scary then too.” BB: What is one of your favorite Sleepy Hollow scenes? LG: There have been some really fun episodes to shoot over the years. I loved Vessel (season one; episode eleven) because I got to play possessed. Corey Castellano, our head of monster makeup, airbrushed my makeup for “Demon Jenny”. It looked awesome, and really didn’t take that long at all. I remember Brownie Harris, the set photographer at the time, saw me heading onto set from the makeup trailer. He greeted me as usual, and then, quietly and with a look of deep concern, he said, “you look exhausted”. I knew then that the makeup would work well. I also loved shooting The Art of War (season three; episode seven), because Zach Appelman and I got to spar together. So many memories! He is trained, although I can’t remember specifically in what art. That was such a fun scene! We actually got to learn the choreography ahead of time, and practice it. Zach and I had tons of fun last season - we both love to eat, and we’d take every opportunity to do that together. I miss him this year!

a small production for which everyone involved had such incredible passion. The movie turned out extremely well, and actually just got a distribution deal - it’ll be released in March 2017! There were a lot of firsts for me as an actress in that movie. For one, I had to do my first sex-scene, which was extremely nerve-wracking. It turned out well, and I’m really glad I got to work with such an amazing crew, and supportive director for my “first time”. There isn’t a job that sticks out in my mind as my least favorite. I’ve definitely had challenging jobs, but I always learn something from them, and for that, I’m grateful. I find that question so hard to answer, because every time I get a script (that is well written and interesting), I find myself wanting desperately to play every character! BB: Is there a specific character you would love to play? LG: Every time I read a book, or a comic, I want to play a whole host of other characters. I think for me, I just love special moments. As an actor, I want to play in and experience as many moments as possible. The character is almost secondary. But if I had to pick a couple characters right now that I’d love to play, Susannah Dean, from Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, and Billie Holiday, the jazz legend, are definitely forerunners.

Ten years study of Shaolin Kung Fu, shows that being a badass is one more commonality Lyndie shares with her character Jenny. In a 2014 article in Paste magazine she reflected, “Martial arts really gives you a knowledge of your physicality. It gives you physical confidence, and I think that’s really important when it comes to playing a character who is so tough. Often when I get into the spirit of Jenny, I’m on the ready. My body is ready to deal with what’s coming, and I think training definitely helps with that.” BB: Do you have a rigorous training schedule? How about stunts? Do you get to do any of your own?

LG: The role of Jenny is pretty physical, and I do get to do some of my own stunts, but I have some very talented stunt doubles who do the super cool dangerous stuff. Thankfully the training regimen for Sleepy Hollow is not too intense, I keep in shape mostly with running and pilates.

BB: Aside from Sleepy Hollow, what other favorite roles have you had? Is there a role that you feel has pushed you the most as an actress, or a role that challenged you more than you would have expected? LG: One of my favorite jobs was a movie called Cut to the Chase. It was an amazing experience to work on such

“As an actor, I want to play in and experience as many moments as possible.” BB: Billie Holiday - what an amazing person to recreate! That seems to tie in to your early musical theater work. Billie is also known as one of the entertainment industry’s key influences pre-Civil Rights Movement. Given the American Revolution theme of Sleepy Hollow -- which regularly references the U.S. Constitution, and its writers -- how do you, as a Canadian woman of color, view the current political climate in the United States? LG: A Canadian woman of color who literally received her green card two days after your election! Ugh. I’m choosing to stay positive: I think this election will jolt people out of complacency and into action. Almost 50% of your voting population didn’t vote. That cannot happen again.

BB: In addition to the final weeks of shooting season four, we are just into the holiday season. How do you celebrate? LG: I love the holidays. Any excuse to celebrate with lights and food and family, and I’m all in. I’ll be heading up to Toronto to see my Dad and Grandma and some dear friends. Can’t wait! BB: When you aren’t working, how and where do you prefer to spend your time? LG: I just bought a house in Atlanta, and my boyfriend and I are happily setting it up. When I have many days off, we often go on trips road-trips, hiking, camping. I love to travel. BB: Speaking of travel, this edition’s cover was shot in L.A. Can you give us input on it, and a little glimpse into your personal style? LG: The shoot was fantastic! I love doing photo shoots because I get to dress in clothes and makeup that I normally wouldn’t wear. I’m really very casual on a day-to-day basis - jeans, t-shirt. I wear very little makeup, just mascara usually. So I guess you’d describe my personal style as “lazy”. BB: Do you feel you are more Jenny or Abby? LG: I guess I’d have to choose Jenny. When you play a character for so long, parts of you rub off on the character, and parts of the character rub off on you. BB: Can you give our readers any peeks into Season four? LG: I don’t want to spoil anything. But, there are some awesome new characters, and some terrifying new monsters, that I think people are really going to love. BB: The new season breaks in January, when do you wrap up shooting the season? LG: Yes, season four premieres January 6, 2017. We’ve been shooting since mid August, and we’ll wrap a couple weeks after the first episode airs. Because I always want to know what is your favorite? Movie? Jurassic Park. Color? Green. Food? All preparations of potatoes. Song? I Just Want to Make Love to You - the Cold Blood version.

LOLita Interview by Pornchai Sereemongkonpol photographer Lynn

Theisen stylist Hype Sompobb Kittisaratham hair and make-up artist Sara Sattarzadeh model Kritchaya Boonhor photography assistant Kantapich Buthdong

163 | JUTE MAGAZINE

In

less than six months of joining the transgender division of Apple Model Management, Kritchaya “Lolita” Boonhor has appeared on the cover of a Hua Hin magazine, been featured in a major Thai fashion magazine, been profiled in a UK magazine and walked several runways. She’ll also feature in an upcoming documentary about Thai MTF transgenders by IDA Films from New York. The 24-year-old fashion model tells us what it’s like to chase a dream when the odds are stacked against you. Pornchai Sereemongkonpol [PS]: Tell us about your growing up as a transgender child. Kritchaya Boonhor [KB]: I wasn’t a sporty boy. I preferred drawing, coloring and everything artistic. My father wanted me to be a soldier like him, so you can imagine the pressure I was under. I lived with him when my parents divorced and grew up in a military base in Lop Buri. I guess I was born this way. When it was clear to him that I was different, he sent me to an all-boys boarding school. I tried to win his approval by studying hard. Luckily, I found like-minded friends and started taking birth control pills when I was 15. I developed small breasts and had to get up really early to shower to avoid being seen by other boys because we shared the shower room. I wrapped my chest tightly to flatten it during the day. I started living as a woman when I attended university. My father was shocked at first but is fine with my identity now because he can see that I can take care of myself. PS: How did you get started in the fashion scene? KB: My first dream was actually to be a beauty pageant contestant but, as you can see, I don’t look the part by Thai standards. A friend told me about the launch of the transgender division and suggested I should do a casting for it. Many applied and I, along with about 10 other models, was chosen. I have been in love with modelling ever since.

The feeling you get walking down a runway or being in front of camera is exhilarating. PS: How has your experience as a trans model been? KB: I’ve never experienced any outright disrespect, but certain things have happened that make me wonder whether I was unfairly judged. Once I was casted for a runway show for a major mall. I was so glad when they called to tell me to make myself available on the day of the show. I later called them to ask when they wanted me to go in for a fitting. They then told me I had been replaced. I cried so hard. There have also been head-to-toe stares, but I tried to pay them no mind. I know I am competing with natural women for the same job but, in my opinion, fashion is about selling an aesthetic or a look. It isn’t about the gender a model was assigned with at birth. There have been designers who welcome a girl like me too. I think people have become more aware of transgender people because of people like Andreja Pejic and Caitlyn Jenner, and I feel the local fashion scene is slowly accepting us. PS: The US Supreme Court recently legalized same-sex marriage. What do you hope to see happen in Thailand for LGBT rights? KB: I wish for the same thing to happen here. Sure, you see news about same-sex couples having wedding ceremonies here, but theirs are symbolic and don’t count in the eyes of the law. I want their unions to matter. I don’t get my hopes up on having a female title in front of my name, though. If I get to use it, it would be great, but I don’t need it to reinforce what I already know about being true to myself. It also won’t change prejudices people may have against a person like me. PS: What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned during the past six months? It doesn’t matter how many times you have failed, when you get a chance to do what you love, you should give it your best. Being honest with yourself sets you free and makes you feel like you can take on anything. When you live truthfully, you may get some haters, but I like that because I know where they stand and I can just avoid them. On the other hand, when you’re open about who you are, you know that when people come and talk to you, they want to get to know you as a real person.

ANDREY IVCHENKO by John Edinger

Andrey Ivchenko is a Ukrainian born actor, who served in the U.S.S.R. military for two years before earning his master’s degree in Kinesiology. After immigrating to Toronto, Canada, he signed with an agency and found success as a television actor and stuntman. His acting credits include guest roles in CW’s “Jane the Virgin,” “Transporter: The series,” and the film “Freezer,” opposite Peter Facinelli and Dylan McDermott. In his newest project, he plays a villain named “Red Erik” opposite Vin Diesel in the highly anticipated, latest installment of the franchise “xXx: The Return of Xander,” which is set to release in January 2017. Andrey now lives in Los Angeles. John Edinger [JE]:You were in the military for two years and also hold a Master’s degree in Kinesiology. How do you think your experiences carry over into your method of acting? Andrey Ivchenko [AI]: I think the first thing the military taught me is discipline. When I get auditions, I can work on my craft and sit as long as I need to read through and memorize the lines until they are perfected. I have a solid work ethic because I can prioritize things I need to do, despite any other temptations and distractions. Because I was in the military, I have a lot of personal experience and knowledge with weapons training which has helped because a lot of the roles I play that require me to use them. Having my Kinesiology degree and being active my entire life in sports, I’ve always stayed in shape which helped me implement those abilities and skills into my work. JE: Did you ever imagine yourself being an actor, or was it more happenstance? AI: I wanted to be an actor since I was a kid, I even did theater in middle school and high school. Being from a small working town back in the Soviet Union, it seemed almost impossible to become one. Despite all these hurdles, I carried my dream through all the years and determined to pursue it one day. What do you like about acting as artistic expression? Transformation. I like when I get to completely reinvent a character who is the furthest away from who I am in real life. There is always a deception about me because of the way I look. I fit a certain image that is preconceived in Hollywood hence why I love playing roles that go against what people would expect to see me play.

Red Erik’s character possessed bold, persistent, “never takes no” for an answer qualities that I really connected with. Even when I’m playing bad guys, I’m trying to find positive points in that character, although, Red Erik is overly confident and that makes him weak at some points which leads to him underestimating Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) and his team. One of the most enjoyable parts of playing Red Erik was extensively developing the character in collaboration

Where do you draw inspiration in the industry, and in what direction would you like to take your career? For me, my inspiration is a double edged sword. On one side, I love character actors such as Pacino, DeNiro, Hopkins, etc. On the other side, I absolutely love action so I draw my inspiration from both directions. If I have a chance to combine those two qualities on set, then it’s a perfect day for me! I would love to be viewed as a wellrounded actor and not just pin pointed to be the action

In the film, you play a villain named “Red Erik.” What about the character interested you, and what did you enjoy about playing the role?

with Vin and a few producers right on set before we shot the scene. After reading the script, I always thought how I can I bring more authenticity to the character which required to slightly expand the character. When we were shooting, I brought some additional ideas to Vin which were very well received by him. How did it feel to be a part of such a successful franchise and to work with Vin Diesel? I have always been a fan of “xXx” and when I watched the first one, I always thought how cool it would be to play alongside Vin and be a part of such a cult classic movie. In addition, when I actually met Vin on set and we worked together and had different discussions about life and got to know him more as a person. It was a double delight to know that he not only plays such cool characters on screen, but that he’s an amazing person in real life as well.

hero or bad guy. I love the craft of creating and think I have the ability to bring so much uniqueness to any character that I would love for people to have that vision for me when casting. What kind of roles could you see yourself playing in the future? I would like to play someone out of the ordinary. As I mentioned before, people see me as an action guy, but I would like to surprise my audience by playing something in the comedy world or a heavy drama that shows my range of emotions, or even something literally out of this world like SyFy. But, I won’t act against one’s convictions; I still love action and want that to be an active part of my career as well.
