Helpful mayor: If you are a woman and have trouble getting your car into a parking spot, then you might wish you lived in Triberg, Germany. There, Mayor Gallus Strobel, who some have labeled sexist, has allowed for the creation of parking spots at a new car park to be designated for women. The spots are wider than usual and easier to access. The men’s spots are nearer pillars or can only be backed into. The mayor denies charges of sexism and simply responds by pointing out that there are plenty of women who can park their cars effortlessly, with or without the specialized spots. Good catch: Stephen Bernard was glad he was in the right place at the right time and that his hopes came true. The New York bus driver was coming home from work when he saw a young girl dancing on an air conditioner that extended from a third-floor apartment window. He knew she could easily fall and began running towards the building. When she did fall, Bernard was there to catch her. At first, he didn’t think he would be able to carry out the feat, but didn’t give up hope until the girl was in his arms. She landed safely, and Bernard was lucky, too, as he only suffered a torn tendon. Lost violin: A Stradivarius violin is one of the rarest and most expensive violins in the world. Only about 600 of the instruments, made by Italian luthier Antonio Stradivari, exist today. So, when Alexander Dubach left a borrowed Stradivarius behind as he exited a train near his home in Thun, Switzerland, it could have been disastrous. But, fellow train traveller Pascal Tretola noticed the violin case and took it for safe keeping, turning it in the next day to the proper authorities. Dubach, a concert violinist, who was very grateful to Tretola, admits that he’s learned his lesson and won’t be transporting the instrument by himself anymore. Strange thieves: A festival in France that celebrates medieval culture had some very unwelcome intruders. The Medievales Europeennes de Bitche festival, one of France’s largest medieval festivals, was robbed by thieves who were wearing medieval attire, according to a spokesman for the regional police in Lorraine. Organizers were busy counting the cash from the festival when the
