PETE & BABY CRUZ A Beautiful Love Story

MESSAGE The Beautiful Life Celebration is an event closest to my heart for many reasons, because we are paying a special tribute to the Filipino American communities for their achievements.

I bow to their professionalism, community service, and dedication in setting the high standard for their positive contribution in our society. Our 2012 distinguished awardees are really to be commended for their commitment to quality in their respected fields of endeavors. They are outstanding because they put their heart and soul into their passion. Our lovely queens and beautiful girls, are all women of substance, they very much deserve recognition. I have always said that even though this was not established as a charitable foundation, we do give what we can to the worthy causes. I wish to thank everyone who’s been part of the show this year. Without your help and support this event would not be possible. Good evening at Maraming salamat po God bless ,

BEAUTIFUL LOVE

PETE AND BABY CRUZ The seeds of Pete and Baby Cruz’s relationship were planted when they were in third and second grade respectively. It was literally love at first sight for Pete. It wasn’t until after both of them had graduated from college that the seeds of love began to blossom. Pete joined the Philippine Military Academy in January 1974 to fulfill his dream of becoming an air force pilot. Later that year he embarked on a journey to fulfill his childhood dream by asking for Baby’s hand in marriage. His dream came true on May 5, 1974 when Pete and Baby were united in matrimony. Pete and Baby attribute the longevity of their marriage to their faith and their family. Their family consists of their four sons (Peter Jr., III, IV, and V), their daughter (Pia), their son-in-law (Ahmad), and their three grandchildren (Sean, Sophia, and Michael). Both Pete and Baby are co-owners of a successful business, Cruz Financial Services, Inc. since 1994.

JOE & CENA SALAGUBANG Joe and Cena Salagubang met in Batangas City on March 1973 and got married on April 24, 1975. They lived a life of a simple family in Batangas, until Joe decided to go to work in Saudi Arabia on 1982. It was really hard for him to leave his family but felt he had to provide for them. His wife followed him at Saudi Arabia on 1986. That was the hardest thing they did, to leave their children. In 1989, Cena came in United States and Joe stayed in Saudi Arabia. Joe followed her on 1991. They worked with a very nice family, but it was really hard for them to be far from their children. Luckily, they were given a chance to petition their children in 1998. That was the happiest day of their lives because they were together as a family again. And now, they are blessed with five beautiful grandkids, Francheska, Joshua, Franco, Jennika and Jilliane.

BEAUTIFUL LOVE

RUBEN AND JANET NEPALES How does one get married in the USA? A quick call to a cousin solved everything. She volunteered this wedding chapel where she got married in similar circumstances. The “instant” factor produced a barrage of jokes. Where shall we hold the reception? McDonald’s or Wendy’s? Janet and I laughed at this next funny twist to our fiveyear romance. Janet was set to work – her first job, albeit temporary – the following day, Saturday. Another one for the books: bride gets married Friday, is at work Saturday. For Janet and me, the matter of getting married to each other has long been a foregone conclusion. During a private moment, she had asked specifically when I decided she was the girl I was going to marry. I thought and answered, “1983.”… God is wonderful. Yes, we’ll have an interesting story to tell our children and grandchildren.

JUN AND BRENDA STA. ANA Jun and Brenda were married in Los Angeles California on April and August of 1970. Jun was born in Dinalupihan, Bataan and grew up in Hermosa, Bataan. He is a retired US Navy. Brenda was born in San Quintin, Pangasinan, and grew up in Cebu and Bohol. Brenda was a former Miss Filipino Alumni and Mrs. Philippines International. They have only 1 daughter, Brendali, a former member of American Ballet Theater. Brendali has twice won the Miss Philippines Talent and beauty pageant in 1990 and 1994. She is now married to Bazza J Holmes, a Celebrity Photographer. Former owners of Benz BMW Auto House in Artesia, Brenda and Jun are now both retired. They live in Huntington Beach, California.

It was important for her to win so she did everything to prepare herself in all the categories of competition. She hired a professional and top-notch pageant coach who helped her pick all her accessories including the red feather showgirl headdress. She was also a very avid delegate at the boot camp of beauty. She made sure she learned how to walk turn and answer questions (confidently) and most of all: Smile! Non stop smile! During the interview in front of the 13 judges, headed by the mayor of Redondo Beach, California, she told them “ I am 64 and LOVING IT!” I think I used my old age to my advantage that day! I sang “Cry Me a River,” for my talent portion and as I hit the highest note, the crowd of 1,400 in Redondo Beach Performing Arts exploded into a thunderous ovation. I knew then I’d receive high marks on the important talent category. As the judges prepare to announce the winners and all of us, delegates, were standing there side by side, my heart was pounding. But I remember thinking: “They are all so young but tonight, I’m already a winner of 2 awards.” When they called the 4th runner-up, all my hopes of winning Top Five vanished! Then, suddenly, they announced the 3rd runner-up: LOURDES BARON, my jaw dropped! Then I heard the crowd give me another deafening Jubilation. I knew then that winning at my age of 64 is not a miracle.
