Determine where, within the curtilage of your dwelling, the swimming pool can be accommodated. Investigate whether there are any mains services where the pool is to be positioned (i.e. water, sewerage, land drains, electricity, gas or telephone). Consult your local planning authority to determine planning permission or building regulations approval is required.. The Datum level for the excavation is the top edge of the pool. Determine a relationship between the Datum and the existing ground level. Detail ‘A’ is a guide. Excavate carefully, and as close to the installation details as is practical. Note that the excavation is shown square and vertical. However, to reduce dig and fill, site adjustments can allow dig to follow pool contours more closely, retaining a minimum 200mm clearance for surrounding dry sand and cement mix fill. Prepare services (i.e. water and electrics). Use timber pegs to accurately establish the 100mm minimum dry sand and cement mix bed level at four positions within the excavation (A,B,C,D). Use a whacker plate to compact dry sand and cement mix screed. Lower pool into excavation and check that the top edge is horizontal and at a height required. Adjust dry sand and cement mix bed if necessary. Fill around the pool with dry sand and cement mix in 200mm layers, compacting with a fine and limited water spraying. At the same time start filling the pool to the height of each dry sand and cement mix layer plus 100mm. When dry sand and cement mix fill is complete, leave surrounding ground uncovered for 2/3 months so as to allow for any possible settlement before attempting to pave or finish off. At all times, before emptying the pool, it is essential that you contact CoralCovepools. ◄—

Layout of Elevation Notes for Excavation 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

If building a block retaining area to surround pool, make length 19'6" x 10'0" wide. Note: this is only essential if planning to cover the pool with a building. Make sure footings are below floor level of pool. Adjust the depth of the hole to suit the required top level of pool being the edge beam. i.e. to allow for having the pool raised above floor level such as to a seat area around pool. Always use clean dry sand and cement mix for backfilling area around pool shell, and support pipework whilst backfilling. DO NOT ALLOW SAND TO DRAG PIPEWORK DOWN. If planning to enclose pool within a building consult with your local planning authorities before commencing building.

6.

Only use water from a hose to gently compact dry sand and cement mix around pool. As you bring the level of water up in the pool backfill with dry sand and cement mix keeping the water level and the rate of backfill equal as possible.

7.

If in any doubt consult Coralcovepools.

The pool walls incorporate fibreglass stiffeners, both the steps and edge beam have a strong nonslip surface and the large radius shape of the pool allows for ease when cleaning with an auto cleaner. A special coating of epoxy based vinyl ester resin protects the interior of your pool against osmosis whilst the formulated black waxed resin flowcoat seals the interior. It is total commitment to quality that has made CoralCovepools the leading UK manufacturer of fibreglass swimming pools and swimspas.

Dealing with ground water Whether you find ground water or not it will be necessary to construct a sump at the lowest point of the excavated area into which land drains, positioned beneath the pool, will drain. At any time during the construction an electric submersible pump can be hired to prevent the site from becoming too water logged, the pump can be run continuously and water should be directed well away from the area. The sump can be as simple as a heavy duty bucket perforated at the base and into which a sleeve of 200mm plastic land drain is fitted. This will allow a pup to be lowered into position at any time in the future should it become necessary to drain the pool. Ensure that the sleeve is long enough to reach the surface and base of sump.

THE DUMPY LEVEL, ONCE SET SHOULD NOT BE MOVED. BEGIN EXCAVATING FROM EITHER END, USE MARKER POLE TO GAUGE EXCAVATION DEPTHS BY STRINGING ACROSS THE DEPTH CHECK PEGS. IF YOU OVERDIG REFILL WITH HARDCORE NOT SOIL.

CHECK THE BASE GRADIENT FOR YOU POOL MODEL. SEE DIAGRAM BELOW

LAY 60MM LAND DRAINS TO FEED INTO SUMP.

Take care at this stage to ensure the pool is properly level. When you sit down to relax after a swim it makes all the difference in the world to see that you have made a good job of the installation. The pools are light enough to be manoeuvred accurately into position to align with existing paving or wall.

Position the marker pole on top of the pool coping and use the Dumpy to sight on the Top of Pool Mark, check all the way around the pool to ensure it is absolutely level. It is a good idea to check that the Dumpy hasn’t accidently been knocked or moved by first placing the marker pole on the reference peg, the cross-hairs should intersect the Top of Pool Mark. The flexible coil land drains are not supplied as part of the pool kit and can be obtained through your local builders merchants.

USE THE MARKER POLE AND DUMPY TO CHECK THE COPING LEVEL ALL AROUND THE POOL BY SIGHTING ON THE TOP OF POOL MARK

Reference Peg

IF GROUNDWATER IS ENCOUNTERED, HIRE A SUBMERSIBLE PUMP WHICH CAN BE KEPT RUNNING UNTIL THE INSTALLION IS COMPLETE. THE PUMPS ARE QUIET AND WILL KEEP THE SITE CLEAR OF WATER

FAILURE TO BACK FILL PROPERLY AS PER THE INSTRUCTIONS PROVIDED AND FAILING TO INSTALL ADEQUATE LAND DRAINS MAY CAUSE STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO YOUR POOL WHICH IS OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY

Take time to understand the stages of installation illustrated here, there is nothing that is beyond the capable DIY’er and where you are uncertain contact Simon at Coralcove for professional help and advice. Being well organised before hand makes any job simpler. Forward planning is the secret of success. Check and identify the plus and minus points early on. The largest part of the job is excavating and removing soil so access for machinery needs to be considered, again Simon will be more than pleased to offer advice.
