“A solid relationship is when someone has your back and

will stand by your side no matter what,” explains Boney James about the title of his new CD. “Solid is a word that has a few meanings, but this one really resonated with me and became the theme of the record.” Solid is the four-time GRAMMY-nominated saxophonist’s seventeenth album as a leader and will be released by Concord Records, on April 17, 2020. Solid follows up his smash 2017 release Honestly which became his eleventh #1 Billboard Contemporary Jazz Album. Sometimes, inspiration is slow in coming, evasive, and stubborn. Other times, if an artist is very fortunate, it simply flows, the music practically writing itself. That’s how Solid, the latest release from Boney James came to be. “This record really flowed at an unusually quick pace,” Boney says. “There was a lot of positive energy in making this music. Solid is a very upbeat record. As I was writing them, these songs put a smile on my face.” It’s still a joy to his multitude of fans too. “I try to ‘be there’ for the people who are interested in my music,” says James, “to be Solid in that relationship and to not let anybody down. I often get great compliments from the people that come to my shows, that I ‘never disappoint’ them, and that’s very gratifying to me. That’s what I was trying to express with this title, that sense of character… to stand for something principled.”

CHARLIE WILSON Very few artists can lay claim to Charlie Wilson’s hitmaker status. He recently took his decades of hits on the road with New Edition and Jodeci for the topselling, critically acclaimed “The Culture Tour” at the top of 2022. On February 25 he dropped a new single and summer anthem, “No Stoppin’ Us,” with fellow R&B Icons Babyface, K-Ci Hailey and Johnny Gill accompanied by a fun-filled music video. Twice named Billboard’s Top Adult Male R&B Artist, Wilson kick-started the new decade with not one but two No. 1 Adult R&B Songs hits: “Forever Valentine” and “One I Got.” Then he wrapped the year by also breaking that chart’s record as the Top Adult Male Artist with the most No. 1’s in three decades. In 2021 Wilson also won the Certified Soul Award at the Soul Train Awards. Since scoring his first top 10 R&B hit in 1979 as co-founder/lead singer for R&B/ funk pioneers the Gap Band, Wilson continues to defy the odds. For in a career that stretches more than four decades — and multiple generations of fans — Wilson has not only become a force on the charts but also onstage. And he has simultaneously become the go-to collaborator for many fellow stars. What ties it all together, says the 13-time Grammy Award nominee, is being able to tap back into the passion that bubbled to the surface when he began performing in church at four years old. “It was fun and felt good,” Wilson recalls with a laugh. “That’s when singing first became something I didn’t want to ever let go.” Meanwhile, Wilson continues to cement his reputation as everyone’s favorite uncle and guest collaborator. Alongside Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, he sings “Wish Me Luck,” the opening theme for the new 2021 STARZ original series Black Mafia Family. Wilson’s vocals also grace Grammy Award-winning Best Rap Albums from Nas (King’s Disease, 2021), Tyler, The Creator (Igor, 2020) and Kanye West (My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, 2012). In addition to an appearance on Nas’ latest No. 1 album King’s Disease II, Wilson’s MVP credits extend to projects from Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams, Snoop Dogg, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and Hit-Boy. And that’s not counting his work with hip-hop nextgeners Chika, Aminé, Brockhampton, Guapdad 4000 and O.T. Genasis.

SHEILA E Guided by the forces of family, faith, and music, Sheila E. has made a name for herself as one of the most talented musical icons over the decades. With a fearless nature and a passion for sharing her gifts with others, Sheila truly follows the beat of her own drum. She touches the lives of so many, with her dynamic music career at the heart of everything. Sheila’s eagerness to share her music, openness as an author, and fire for her ministry make her such a relatable, inspirational figure for people of all ages. Born into a musical family, Sheila Escovedo (Sheila E.) has been driven by an inner rhythm her entire life. As a young girl, she was immersed in the diverse music scenes of the Bay Area—influenced and inspired by her percussionist father Pete Escovedo; musical uncles Coke Escovedo, Alejandro Escovedo, Mario Escovedo, and Javier Escovedo; and godfather Tito Puente. Growing up in the Escovedo household, musical instruments were for everyone. “Nobody cared as long as you could keep time (or have a good time),” she writes in her memoir, The Beat Of My Own Drum. You most likely saw her on stage at this year’s OSCARS.

DAMIEN ESCOBAR Damien Escobar is one of the world’s most well-respected violinists, and his love, passion, and dedication to his craft bleeds into his everyday life. Ever since the young age of 8 years old, the Jamaica, Queens, New York native fell in love with the instrument, even making history as the youngest Juilliard School of Music graduate at the time at just 12 years old… but the road was never easy. Coming from truly humble beginnings, Escobar went from being homeless and playing violin in the subways of New York City to taking home an NAACP nomination and two Emmy wins, to appearances on the Today Show and multiple sold-out nationwide tours. And Damien isn’t just a musician, he has his hands in all aspects of the business. Coming up as a member of the world-famous duo Nuttin But Stringz, who came in third place on America’s Got Talent, Damien also stepped into the management role of the group — turning them from a local sensation to a multi-million dollar brand. To date, they’ve partnered with elite companies such as McDonald’s, Nike, Coca-Cola, ADIDAS, Yamaha, and more. Now two decades in, Damien has performed for everyone from President Obama and President Bush to Diddy and Oprah Winfrey. Fast forward to today, Damien has lit yet another fire up under him, ready to unleash his own original music which he hasn’t done in over 5 years. Additionally, he stays busy with his own booking agency LCM Entertainment, while heading the music department at one of the largest ad agencies, Arnold Worldwide.

The popularity of his music world wide has kept Mr. Simpson on a seemingly endless world tour which in 2019 included Japan, Australia, Korea, Indonesia, Philippines, Spain, United Kingdom, Portugal, and South Africa. With writing and performing credits on R&B chart-topping albums and Smooth Jazz Airplay charts, it’s clear why Brian is the veteran Music Director of so many jazz events.

Contemporary saxophonist, author, and music producer Jackiem Joyner is set to release his 7th album, Touch, worldwide this fall, 2019. After more than 12 years as a recording

artist, Jackiem continues to stand out with electrifying live performances and brilliant music productions. As a performer, he has toured over 30 countries and performed with the likes of the late George Duke, Marcus Miller, Keiko Matsui, Donnie McClurkin, Angela Bofill, Najee, Kirk Whalum, Peter White, and many, many more. Joyner’s radio success is widely known within the industry. Joyner has two number 1 hit songs, five top 10 billboard singles, and a number one debut album under his belt.

JESSY J Jessy’s connection to her Latin heritage runs deep, as her father is originally from Mexico and her mom hails from Texas. Born in Oregon and raised in southern California, Jessy grew up in a home full of big family gettogethers, Mexican feasts and lots of Latin, jazz and pop music. Her musical influences include Cannonball

Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Grover Washington, Jr., Sergio Mendes, Ricky Martin and Gloria Estefan. She is grateful that her Hispanic fans have been inspired by her love of these musical roots, which has sometimes helped foster connections with their own family heritage. Jessy’s European fans may not connect with that side of her in a personal way, but they have long embraced the exuberant exotica she brings to her style of contemporary jazz.

“Top to bottom,” Albright says, “Whether in concert, listening to my music over the radio or CD player, I always want my listeners to be taken on a musical journey with different textures, rhythms, chord progressions and moods. I want people to know where I’ve been and where I’m going, and to let them hear that I’m in a really good place in my life.”

Cindy has also applied her skills and background in a way to inspire future generations. She has conducted hundreds of jazz workshops at high school and community colleges all over the country, and earned a master’s degree in educational leadership. Cindy continues to impress thousands of jazz loving adults, playing such renowned events as the Big Bear Lake Jazz Festival, Omaha’s Riverfront Jazz and Blues Festival, the Balcones Heights Jazz Festival in San Antonio and the Seabreeze Jazz Festival.

As Spyro Gyra looks forward to 2020 and beyond, they show no sign of slowing down. Over the last 40+ years, they have performed over five thousand shows, released thirty-one albums (not counting “Best Of…” compilations) selling over ten million albums while also achieving one platinum and two gold albums. Although few acts have accomplished this type of record, they have done it by constantly challenging themselves as is evidenced by their last studio release “The Rhinebeck Sessions” which was written and recorded over three days in the studio.

MARION MEADOWS Smooth Jazz Superstar Marion Meadows is without question one of the most popular and unique talents on the jazz scene today. Blessed with movie star looks and the smoothest saxophone tone on the planet, Marion has sold close to one million albums in his brilliant career. His constant string of radio hits and relentless touring have garnered legions of fans, and his appearances with such varied artists as The Temptations, Michael Bolton and Will Downing are a testament to his broad audience appeal.

success, Bryson has the distinction of being the first artist in music history to have separate records topping four different charts.

LINDSEY WEBSTER lindseywebstermusic.com The earthy, charismatic and beautiful Lindsey Webster is a surprising and welcomed anomaly in the contemporary jazz world. The sultry and soulful young singer/composer, who has two Billboard #1’s on the Contemporary Jazz Chart, making her the first vocalist in the format to garner a #1 since the iconic Sade, is still amazed by her own success. “It is unbelievable that it is really happening” says Webster. “But now that it has, I feel like my world and career have opened up and that it is only the beginning!”

Grammy Award-winning Contemporary Jazz/R&B superstar Norman Brown has sold close to 2 million albums in his extraordinary career and virtually lives at the top of the Billboard Contemporary Jazz sales and radio charts. Having shared the stage with virtually every Contemporary Jazz superstar from Boney James to Dave Koz to Gerald Albright. Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, Norman Brown first picked up a guitar at the age of 8. First inspired by Jimi Hendrix, it was his father’s preference for the sound of Wes Montgomery that set Brown on his stylistic journey.

KEIKO MATSUI Acclaimed pianist, composer and humanitarian Keiko Matsui’s transcendent and haunting melodies have long sought to build bridges. Her sonic cultural exchange has reached the hearts and minds of fans throughout the world and has allowed the pianist to work alongside icons Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, Hugh Masekela and Bob James. “I would like my music to be a conduit for peace, kindness, love and light,” shares the petite, soft-spoken, yet commanding pianist.

KIM WATERS We could all learn a thing from Kim Waters’ Zen-like approach to music and life. He is an advocate of not sweating the small stuff and seeing the big picture. He professes that these are key ingredients to living a long life. Waters is also motivated by the opportunity to reach others. He concludes, “My fans, friends and family inspire me to be the best I can be. It makes me smile when I hear and see people happy because of my music!!! That’s what it’s all about.”

KAYLA WATERS Award-winning urban-jazz pianist Kayla Waters is a chart-topping recording artist, composer, producer and music director. After signing a multi-album record deal with Trippin N’ Rhythm (SONY), Kayla made Billboard history by becoming the first female pianist and composer to reign atop the charts at the No. 1 spot for 6 consecutive weeks. Spiritually grounded, she serves as Associate Music Director at Grace Brethren Church in Maryland and delights in the opportunity to share her God-given gifts of music in ministry. Firm in her faith and wholly aware of her unique purpose, Kayla never loses sight of God divinely orchestrating her every move.

HIROSHIMA As we move into 2022, we embark on our “Domo Tour”. “Domo” in Japanese means “Thanks”. In case we don¹t get back your way again, we want to say “Domo” to our fans, friends, and family for your decades of support. We have decided to “wind down” from the traditional touring we’ve done all these years. We aren’t stopping 100%, but it’ll be scaled back quite a bit.

KEN FORD “The King of Strings”

Electric. A word that describes not only Ken Ford’s violin but aptly describes the man himself, with electrifying and deeply physical live performances that have audiences up on their feet and into the aisles, feeling the music as much as he does, jumping and dancing around on stage. Far from being any quiet instrument, Ken’s infectious energy takes the violin center stage with amazing artistry and creativity, rocking out on the violin with a passion and fervor that rivals the biggest and baddest guitar solos.

Named “one of our greatest treasures as a guitarist” by Najee and “amazingly talented” by Dave Koz, guitarist Blake Aaron has returned with his fifth full length album “Color and Passion”, on Innervision Records.
