Surprising Things You Can Do With Coffee Grounds

Cats and Coffee Don’t Mix Keep the neighbors cats out of your garden by sprinkling orange peels and coffee grounds around any plants they’re attracted to. Like a Starbucks in Your Chimney Make cleaning your fireplace easier by sprinkling dampened used coffee grounds in the fireplace before cleaning. It will weigh down the ash and eliminate clouds of dust. Plus, it will just smell nice. Get Creative Make a sepia dye with old coffee grounds by soaking them in hot water. Use the dye for fabrics, paper, or even Easter Eggs. New Car Coffee Smell Make an air freshener for your car out of old coffee grounds by cutting the leg off of an old pair of nylon stockings. Dump a bunch of coffee grounds inside, then add about two drops of vanilla extract into the mix, and tie the leg off. Fill your flower bed You can use your old coffee grounds as mulch for plants that love acid, like roses, azaleas, rhododendrons, evergreens, camellias, and hydrangeas. Instant Snail Repellent No matter how good your soil is, though, if you have snails or slugs in your garden, your flowers aren’t going to grow. So use old coffee grounds to poison—er—magically remove them from the area. Ants Prefer Decaf You can also sprinkle coffee grounds around ant mounds to deter them. Deodorize your fridge. Sprinkle used coffee grounds inside, or just put the whole used filter, grounds included, in an old margarine or butter dish. Vitalize your hair Brunettes and dark redheads can benefit from rinsing their hair in coffee to rejuvenate their color. Just steep your used grounds in two cups of hot water and then rinse this through your hair. Coffee-Off Dry Skin Exfoliating with coffee grounds can help stimulate blood flow, promoting healthier and tighter skin. Just add mineral oil or vitamin E oil to old coffee grounds and apply it to your skin. A Healthier Way to Tan To rejuvenate your summer tan without harming your skin in the sun, just add a cup of water to your old coffee grounds and boil them. Once it is cool, rub it all over your body, soak it in for about 15 minutes, and then rinse off. The Cheapest Facelift Ever Mix a quarter cup of coffee grounds with one egg white, and then spread the mixture over your face. Once it is dry and flaky, rub the mask off and rinse your face. Voila—a tighter face.

Tarps You can make a fun teepee or even a sweat lodge out of old tarps. Automobile Tires Make a tire swing or lay it on the ground and fill it with dirt for a flower garden. They make great bumpers too. Shower Liners You can use liners for drop clothes or to cover outside lawn furniture. Cardboard Boxes You can cut cardboard boxes into manageable flat pieces and use them to cushion breakable things. I also like using them for file dividers in the old file cabinets. Prescription Bottles Fruit Snacks - Pack healthy, dried apricots, cranberries, prunes or raisins in empty plastic prescription bottles for bag lunches. (Be sure to warn children that not all contents of plastic prescription bottles are readily edible, to prevent them from consuming actual medications.) Colorful Hard Candy Wrappers This is one of my favorites, you can make a candy wrapper wreath out of wrappers. You take a foam craft ring, and flattened candy wrappers and a crochet needle. And then take one candy wrapper, place the crochet needle tip in the middle of the wrapper and poke the wrapper right into the craft foam. Do this until the whole wreath is covered with candy wrappers. Add a nice ribbon bow and you have a beautiful wreath for any wall.

CLEAN YOUR MATTRESS:

Pour about 1 cup of baking soda into a Mason jar & drop in 4 drops of lavender essential oil. Put on lid & shake jar. Using a kitchen strainer, sprinkle the baking soda mixture all over the mattress & let it sit for an hour or more. Thoroughly vacuum the mattress. Bye, bye dust mites, & other nasty things. The baking soda helps draw up any moisture & deep dirtiness. It deodorizes & leaves the mattress smelling fresh & clean.
