Who we are?
The Global Initiative on Justice With Children (JWC), led by the Terre des hommesLausanne Foundation in partnership with Penal Reform International (PRI) and the International Association of Youth and Family Judges and Magistrates (IAYFJM), connects practitioners worldwide through World Congresses, regional and national advisory meetings and produce research on child justice.

The World Congresses aim to:
World Congress on Justice with Children
The Global Initiative JWC organizes World Congresses on Justice With Children that convene every three to five years to address pressing challenges for children in contact and conflict with the law
These events serve as interactive platforms for meaningful discussions and collective action fostering collaboration among child justice practitioners, children, young people, policymakers, justice system stakeholders, academics, civil society, UN representatives, and other experts and practitioners.
Promote fair and child-centred justice systems for and with all the children worldwide. Provide a space for professionals to exchange best practices, foster scientific cooperation, formulate policy recommendations, raise awareness about child-centred justice, and empower stakeholders to take action towards implementing positive change on the justice systems
Support the operational implementation of international instruments and standards related to the rights of children and young people in conflict with the law.
The
V World Congress on Justice With Children 2025
Following the successful past World Congresses in Lima (2009), Geneva (2015), Paris (2018), and Mexico (2021), the next World Congress on Justice With Children is scheduled for June 2-6, 2025. The event will take place in person in Madrid, Spain accommodating hybrid participation, with simultaneous in-person events in various locations around the world.

The V World Congress on Justice With Children 2025 objectives are:
Advocate for systemic change through increased and improved knowledge and practices in preventing and responding to violence against children in the administration of justice
1. Develop and measure effective strategies to prevent and respond to violence against children in the administration of justice
2. Enhance child systemic participation within the child justice system 3.
Key priorities of the Global Initiative on Justice With children
Our key priorities an themes of focus
Ending child detention, including within criminal justice systems, immigation detention and any other form of deprivation of liberty of children.
Justice in times of crisis, including climate (in)justice for children, child-centered justice and accountability for children in context of armed conflict and of insecurity, with a focus on reinforcing the resilience of justice systems for children
Reinforcing justice
Neuroscience approaches into child justice systems, aiming at bringing contemporary lens to understanding the diverse impacts and consequences experienced by children within justice systems and how to support them appropriately
Community empowerment, focusing on legal pluralism including customary justice, community-based reintegration processes for children in contact with the law, inlcuding a particularly focus on prevention, restorative justice, and social cohesion.
