I met a Juniata alum in the most unusual place... While visiting Hilton Head, S.C., with my family, I played a round of golf in Sea Pines. On the first tee, the starter had a name badge with his hometown listed as Pittsburgh. I mentioned Huntingdon and that I was a graduate of Juniata. He surprised me by announcing he too was a graduate. Dan David ’67 and I spoke of our memories of school and campus life. Both of us shared stories of the business department and the impact Ron Cherry had on us and our careers. Dan is enjoying retired life in Hilton Head and I look forward seeing him again on my next vacation.

While vacationing in Avignon, France, Tom Kepple, president emeritus, and his wife, Pat, were approached by another couple who noticed the Juniata shirt that Tom was wearing. The couple were Richard and Barb Nickle, whose son, Christopher Nickle ’95 is a Juniata alumnus.

I changed roles at AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, the company where I work, which required me to learn about parts of the organization that I would be supporting. During that process, I came across Russell Esterline ’81 in an organizational chart. In March 2015 my job took me to Mölndal, Sweden, which happened to be the facility where Russ was working. Fortunately our schedules allowed me to enjoy a wonderful dinner and conversation with Russ and his wife, Nancy, at their home in Näset. We discovered that we have a lot more in common than we realized, including our work and life paths crossing unknowingly several times since graduation. Who would have thought that two guys from south central Pennsylvania would major in chemistry at Juniata, find themselves working for the same company, and 34 years later reconnect in Sweden. It really is a small world! —Jack Follweiler ’82

For my job as a medical technologist, I was visiting a hospital in Jamestown, N.Y., demonstrating a product to the laboratory staff, when I met Patricia (Nalbone) Lindquist ’82. During introductions on the first day, we discovered we both had attended Juniata. Throughout the week I was there we reminisced about the campus, the faculty, and our experiences. I do a lot of traveling for my job, and this is the first time in over 10 years that I have had the pleasure to run into a Juniata grad. It made my week! —Shelly McLaughlin-Strobaugh ’88

Juniatians take Manhattan! A group of Juniata alumni and staff attended the same U2 concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City in July 2015. Pictured (l-r) are Deb (Kuback) Simpson ’94; Lauren Simpson (Deb’s daughter); Matt Scialabba (Dawn’s son); Dawn Scialabba, interim assistant dean of students; Shelly (Brown) Rivello ’97; and Jim Rivello ’97. Also in attendance at the concert, but not available for the photo, was Will Dickey, assistant professor of English.
