ST ANDREWS WEDDING VENUE, MATAKANA COUNTRY PARK St Andrew's Church Matakana, built in 1896 has a category 2 listing with Heritage New Zealand. The church was relocated to Matakana Country Park in 2007 through the generosity of John Baker, then owner of the Park. The return of St Andrews to Matakana by barge from Snells Beach, was a spectacular event. The building was re-located, re-piled, re-wired re-roofed and repainted at that time under the direction of McClean Construction and made ready for use again in an agreement between The Presbyterian Church and the park owner. The Building and grounds are now owned and administered by The St Andrews Matakana Trust as a Presbyterian Church St Andrews has been a popular location for weddings since 2007. The appealing gothic style with filigree is distinctive. The private location on a half-acre site separates it from churches in busy urban locations. Its position in the heart of Matakana and its proximity to reception locations is worth noting. The site can cater for outside wedding ceremonies as well as those in the building. The building is well maintained and has Auckland Council compliance certificates for use as a public venue. The gardens were designed by local landscape architect Liz Morrow. The grounds are maintained to a high standard by a local contractor. Although the church has services from time to time (especially Carols on Christmas Eve), the major use is for wedding ceremonies. 20-30 weddings per year is usual for the building, so advance booking is recommended. Bookings for weddings can be directed to the Trustees below. Neville 021 189 4242 or Glyndyr 027 277 4540 AD FEATURE
