ENTREPRENUERS

YOUNG ENTREPRENUERS SOPHIE HAUSER, THE BACH, MATAKANA Tell us about your business and how you see it working in two years? I’m the proud new owner of The Bach, Matakana. In two years, it will be the go-to place for high-end surf and fashion brands. The Bach will become more of a lifestyle store focusing on the quality of our brands and staff. I have a new vision for the revamped store with some exciting new lines on their way. Can you describe the pathway that got you to here? While studying my degree in Business at Victoria University in Wellington, I worked summer holidays at The Bach. When the opportunity came up to buy the business I leapt at

it. With my family’s support behind me I’m excited about what this adventure will bring. What’s the best thing about setting up on the Matakana Coast? The location and the vibe this area generates reflects the direction I want my business to go in. The proximity to Auckland, the lifestyle and the gorgeous beaches means everyone loves Matakana Coast. It’s the perfect work/lifestyle combination for me. www.instagram.com/thebachmatakana 09 422 7477

SCOTT YEARBURY, NAILED IT CONSTRUCTION Tell us about your business and how you see it working in two years? I started Nailed It Construction a few years ago. We’ve grown from a team of two to seventeen. We do everything from new architectural homes to renovations and commercial work. From Matakana we’ve branched out to the Auckland CBD and Mangawhai. In two years we’ll be building your house. Can you describe the pathway that got you to here? I was exposed to the industry young – my Dad was a builder. In my teenage years I was happy that I could learn while I was getting paid – a win-win in my books! Now it’s no longer learning

how to bang in nails, it’s trying to find the correct systems to help the business flow smoothly and operate more efficiently. What’s the best thing about setting up on the Matakana Coast? I was brought up here – this is where it all started for me, and you couldn’t find a better place to grow a business. We’re pretty lucky to live here. www.naileditconstruction.co.nz 021 036 8820

CLAUDIA MUNRO, VAULT MAGAZINE Tell us about your business and how you see it working in two years? Vault Magazine is a student-initiated quarterly magazine that a group of Mahurangi College students and I are in the process of developing. It covers creativity within the school and interviews with inspiring members of the community. Over the next two years the magazine should have some good industrystandard processes and become a firm part of the school’s literary life. Plans include expansion to a Rodney-wide area. Can you describe the pathway that got you to here? While aspiring to a publishing career, a

random thought became a six-month process involving much emailing and persuasion. With the go-ahead from the school and some amazing mentoring from Bianca Howlett of Junction, our first issue release is on April 3. What’s the best thing about setting up on the Matakana Coast? The sense of community and support I’ve discovered – we’ve had lots of help and ideas from locals, as well as all the talent that this community offers! vaultmag1@gmail.com 021 065 6647

Goat Island Dive & Snorkel is an environmentally-focused 5-star PADI Dive Centre. We offer education about marine reserves and water safety, with snorkelling and scuba diving. In about two years time we hope to have raised awareness and shown lots of people how great – and necessary – marine reserves are! Can you describe the pathway that got you to here? Travelling the world diving and snorkelling gives you an enormous appreciation of the ocean. Being able to share that world and educate a new

With its close proximity to Auckland, Goat Island Marine Reserve is a magical and very special part of New Zealand. The Matakana Coast offers world class diving. Growth in this area offers many opportunities and makes for a great lifestyle. www.goatislanddive.co.nz 09 422 6925
