GRADES 3-4
WORD PLAY
Engage in play that stimulates the five senses, sparks creativity and encourages new paths to writing imaginative poems and stories. You’ll explore nearby parks, the rose garden, the library, and take a field trip to the zoo for inspiration.
GRADES 3-4 & 5-6
PICTURE THIS
Investigate the connection between visual art and the written word. Take field trips to local arts resources and explore public art. Create work that shows and tells through creative projects such as collage, comics and illustrated stories and poems.
WILDLIFE WORDS* a full day camp in collaboration with Zoo Boise
GRADES 3-5
Form an enduring wildlife conservation ethic. In the morning, visit Zoo Boise for zoo-instructor-led, hands-on activities that will provide an understanding of why animals and their habitats are endangered as well as how people are working for the conservation of wildlife. In the afternoon, visit The Cabin and work with a teaching-writer to create your own poems and stories inspired by your zoo experience.

SONG WRITER* in collaboration with Boise Rock School
AGES 10 and up
Unlock the creative voice within during this exciting journey through the craft of songwriting. Using hooks, rhymes, and words that “sing,” you will begin writing your own songs the very first day. Listen to songs, talk about what makes them work, write your own lyrics and be ready for a performance by the end of the week. Open to any instrument or ability level. Bring your instrument with you, if you have one.
NATURE WRITER in collaboration with The Idaho Botanical Garden
GRADES 4-6
Cultivate your relationship with nature by writing in Boise’s best garden. In this living museum go on botany walks with Idaho Botanical Garden staff, sharpen your observation skills, and extend your understanding of the natural world with a teaching-writer.
WRITING WILD in collaboration with Foothills Learning Center
GRADES 4-6 & 7-9
Experience an outdoor creative writing adventure! Explore Boise’s foothills with a pencil and notebook in hand. Discover how the natural world can inform your writing through observation and interaction with the untamed environment.
GRADES 5-6
CABIN WRITERS
Discover how art, music, and nature inform your imagination. Learn to write stories and poems that are singular, creative and express the thoughts within. Experience writing in parks, the Discovery Center and along the river.
GRADES 5-6 & 7-9
ONE ACTS
Learn about characters, dialogue, plot, and scenes and how they all work together when you write a one-act play. With the guidance of a local playwright and inspirational visits to a local theater, compose plays that can go from the page to the stage.

NEWS FLASH
Immerse yourself in nearby cultural attractions, parks, and the downtown scene in search of community events and information. Chronicle your findings in op-ed pieces as well as hard-hitting news reports while you learn about the different ways journalism can tell a story.
ZINE SCENE
GRADES 7-9
Investigate the connection between visual arts and the written word. Discover how to produce art that shows and tells through excursions to art studios, galleries and public art installations. You’ll make art with words and word art — explore collage, graphic novels, and illustrated stories and poems.
URBAN INK
GRADES 7-9
Explore cityscapes, coffee shops, public art, and urban life. Interact with Boise’s downtown scene to inspire unique characters and settings for stories as well as poetry rooted in observation.
STORY STORY in collaboration with Story Story Night
GRADES 7-9 & 10-12
Tell it like it is. From ideas to the page to the stage — learn the behindthe-scenes plotline, pacing, and public speaking tips to enthrall a crowd with a true story on a theme, told live on stage and without notes. Find out how to dig out the extraordinary from your “ordinary” life, and develop the concepts and connection that make stories ring with truth, power, and humor.

THE WORKSHOP*
Work alongside a professional fiction writer and a professional poet for two weeks as they share the techniques that get them writing. Work together toward a new level of understanding and creation through outstanding examples, new skills, and sharing work with others in a workshop setting.

REVISE REDO
Bring that writing gathering dust in your notebook and discover that, yes, even revision can be fun! Share your writing with a professional writer and improve it through innovative and out-of-the-box revision techniques. Learn about genre expectations, when and how to break the rules, and finding your audience.

POETRY SLAM in collaboration with Big Tree Arts
Excavate the wild rabbit hole that is performance poetry. You will become familiar with a loaded deck of poetic conventions, skills and practices that provide you with the foundation necessary to write with confidence, connect with your audience and blow minds.
