Ever since I travelled alone for the first time in my life, without the protection of my parents, I have been dreaming about going abroad, seeing and discovering the world with all its facets and making it mine.

During the last three years at Elisava School of Design and Engineering I had the opportunity to work in different design areas. This diversity helped me to focus on my ambitions.

This life changing trip actually was a weekend trip to Berlin with my best friend but for me it was the moment when I decided to leave a mark on this amazing world.

Living abroad in such a multicultural city like Barcelona enables me to experience life in different fascinating ways every day again and learn a great deal about people and their cultures.

Everything starts with a story and mine has its roots in Germany. I was 19 when I decided for the first time to go to Barcelona, driven by curiosity and the desire to find my way.

I am delighted to be currently part of the Man and Mobility department at the Design Academy Eindhoven for an exchange programme, embarking upon a new stage of my life.

The basic idea for the Okume

chair was to exploit the material to its limits. The chair is created with an insert system that allows an easy set-up and clever storage.

Different models helped me to understand the necessary inclinations and measurements to make the chair comfortable and concisely.


During my search for the ideal shape I got inspired by a cross for the base that in the end determines the whole language of the chair. The playful combination of angles and directions created by the crossed baseline and the inserted seat and back form a unique appearance full of details. PRODUCT Okume chair

The basic concept that should determine my product was to create intelligent crockery that combines different applications in one economic portable object inspired in designs for camping or food containers.

Who doesn’t know the typical crockery mountains in the kitchens of shared flats? My object was to find a simple and handy solution for this storage problem. I started with a reflection about the existent designs and the detailed analysis of the problem in this case of my kitchen. Having in mind the results I directed my research towards space saving, modular and transformable classic and modern designs.

To find the right shape for my product I got inspired by Origami and different folding technics. Polypropylene as being economic, and offering you flexibility in form giving was the perfect material to experiment with. The ergonomic shape allows the user to hold the plate with only one hand carrying food and drink in once. The set consists of a plate, a bowl and a tray, fulfilling the same functions as normal crockery.

The folding system remembers of the typical muffin forms having the same functionality. The plates are foldable and stored as simple sheets. They save space and are perfect for take away.

OriĆ’ami is designed not only for the domestic use; it can also serve as a picnic set or crockery for a party. It incorporates the social idea of meeting everywhere and sharing a meal without the need of a table or chairs.

When we had to design a source of light for a

technical seminar last year my first idea was to combine transparency and opacity. After a complete research and analysis of different concepts of lighting design I was fascinated by the Italian artist Francesca Pasquali and her straw sculptures. Straws as a weak element in daily use can form in combination something impressive.

The straws create a light filter that makes the light source transparent and opaque at the same time, depending on the angle the observer is standing under the lamp. As the lamp is thought for the ceiling it could be repeated infinitely to create a surface of different light sources covering a whole room. Walking under the straw lamp gives you the feeling that the light is following you and putting you in the spotlight. The straws can be aligned or create an irregular surface that increases the effect of movement and the changes of light.

Giving an existent material a new application- this was the challenge of

a technical project of the second year. After the detailed analysis of the relatively new material Keraflex, knowing better its use, advantages and disadvantages, we realised that Keraflex as being a flexible ceramic could lead us to a set of folded ceramic crockery inspired in the traditional Japanese art of paper folding. Keraflex is commercialised as flexible A4 or A3 sheets with the thickness of 0,5-1mm. The ceramic material contains an organic adhesive agent that disappears during the process and leaves behind pure porcelain.

The concept of our project works with the idea to obtain a sophisticated design using traditional fabrication methods.

Preparation of he material: The sheet has to be bathed for maximum three minutes in water for modelling. Once having finished the desired form, it has to be dried for ten hours before being exposed to a burning process.

Making the prototype we realised that it‘s necessary to give the sheets more thickness and to apply a protection. As the art of paper folding offers a wide range of forms Keraflex has a lot of opportunities to be developed with the same concept.

The manual fabrication gives every piece a unique shape and allows the production of more specific or personalized products.

Wooden shell is a space created to involve

human beings as a third skin. My object was to make this skin dynamic and let it be moved or by its surroundings or the person itself.

The basic concepts that inspired me are the dynamic shape of a sail, the search for balance, established by yourself or the environment and the sound, texture and movements of wood. The achieved shape is based on simple deformed surfaces that form an organic body resembling a shark.

The structure plays on the impact of the wind and lets the wooden shell move irregular in eight positions depending mostly of the external conditions. The two semi open doors are considered as wind chimes using different longitudes of wood that can move individually. Wooden shell is a place where to feel, see, hear, smell and observe your environment being the centre of this experience. It separates and connects you at the same time with the outside.

The target of this small project was to create an

interior experimenting with natural light. Treating a simple cardboard box with cuts and breaks, the light as the main character converts a simple element into an interesting space full of ideas.

My intention was to create a light bath, provoked by different light intensities and angles of incidence. You will discover many shades of colours, different materials and textures that transform the interior in a mystic and energetic space.

The brief of this project was to design a gastronomical place for a certain target sponsored by the government of Barcelona. MOS which name is a combination of mosaic and the catalan expression “fer un mos” what means more less ‘to snack’, is situated at the beach of Barceloneta. Según el analisis de los diferentes maneras de comer intentamos hacer una sintesis. El resultado es una plataforma de diferentes niveles que invita a comer de maneras distintas. Todos los niveles están conectados y se crea un espacio que invita al usuario a comunicar con su entorno social e intentar añadir pequeños cambios a los rituales del día a día.

La iluminación del espacio interior busca contrastar con el aspecto tectónico del mobiliario. Son círculos de 3 diámetros diferentes repartidos de forma aparentemente aleatoria, que hacen que la luz se difunda por todo el espacio sin dar mayor importancia a ninguno de los elementos. Desde el interior la percepción de este sistema de luminarias se disimula gracias a que las lámparas se empotran el falso techo existente.

We designed a platform that offers six different ways to sit down and enjoy your food, inspired in cultural habits. The different levels allow interaction between people to create a multicultural atmosphere.

Cada color ejerce diferentes emociones sobre la persona que lo observa: llama su atención y comunica una idea por medio de un símbo lo que adquiere valor en el contexto. El rol de los colores en las expresiones culturales de muchos pueblos es amplio, y en muchas ocasiones se le dio un poder especial a cada uno de ellos, capaz de producir reacciones de todo tipo y enviar mensa jes mudos.

TARGET

Al analizar el contexto y ver qué actividades se desarrollan en él, comprendimos que el público a quién dirigir nuestro merendero es muy amplio. Familias, deportistas, personas de la tercera edad, turistas, niños… todos ellos con un punto en común: la cultura. Se trata de personas con una historia y origen concreto que en un entorno como la playa urbana apenas se relacionan. Por eso proponemos adaptar nuestro merendero a la diversidad de usuarios que podrían intervenir en él y motivar a este grupo de personas a interactuar entre ellos.

The mosaic represents the numerous cultures that share their lives in Barcelona using the pattern of the famous Passeig de Gracia, the main shopping street of the city. It also makes reference to the name MOS.

Guacala, the Gastro Outlet, is a high-class restaurant based on the idea to

create delicious dishes with food waste and expose this concept to the public. We want to raise awareness on that issue and create a statement. By using almost expired food, unesthetic food and non-commercialized crops as ingredient for our menus our goal is to activate the client‘s creativity and be rebel. INTERIOR Guacala

Our goal is to show to the public what can be made with food waste, therefore the kitchen is the main element of our space, being orientated to the street and the bare observation. It is divided in three steps: the preparation of the ugly food, the cooking and the decoration of the plates.

We are playing with different heights to create a system of layers to offer the best view on the process. The kitchen is on street level, so that it seems like your meal is being prepared on the ground. Elevating the restaurant gives the atmosphere a feeling of luxury and comfort. Everything can be observed easily.

building our own pinhole camera, calculating the exposure time and revealing the pictures ourselves. For me it was a fantastic experience to get the knowhow of an artisanal technique in times of technology.

The idea for the cube came up

while studying the chromatic circle. In the first place it is an educative game to learn in a funny way the colours and their composition but it could also be seen on a larger scale as a chest of drawers. There is only one possible disposition of the blocs to close the cube completely.

Rubber is a volume created by the different use of one structural module. Three of those modules form a pyramid being used as the macro-module of the structure. Using just one simple element it is possible to create a shape that surprises you every time you look at it.

see here is my interpretation of the city Moriana from Italo Calvino’s book ‘Invisible cities’. I tried to reflect the tension, the ambiguity and the fascination for the unexpected, mentioned in the text, in one representing object that explains the city to someone who doesn’t know it.

Italo Calvino, Invisible cities Cities and eyes 5 „When you have forded the river, when you have crossed the mountain pass, you suddenly find before you the city of Moriana, its alabaster gates transparent in the sunlight, its coral columns supporting pediments encrusted with serpentine, its villas all of glass like aquariums where the shadows of dancing girls with silvery scales swim beneath the medusa shaped chandeliers. If this is not your first journey, you already know that cities like this have an obverse: you have only to walk in a semicircle and you will come into view of Moriana‘s hidden face, an expanse of rusting sheet metal, sackcloth, planks bristling with spikes, pipes black with soot, piles of tins, blind walls with fading signs, frames of staved- in straw chairs, ropes good only for hanging oneself from a rotten beam.
