HOSPITALITY PROJECT DESCRIPTION The Plus Hostel, located in Florence, Italy, required a renovation that appealed to all types of travelers.

THE CHALLENGE To create a design that both modernizes the interior of the hostel while still incorporating the eclectic, Italian culture.

THE SOLUTION The concept we utilized was based off of Italian Gardens, throughout Italian history were staples in culture for their ability to provide an escape as well as a way of entertainment. The historical ties helped guide us in the right direction to achieving our project goals.

SOFTWARE/SKILLS Revit, Photoshop, Procreate

***Group Project: Responsible for WiFi room, bedroom section renderings, waiting area light fixture, hostel logo

SECTION THROUGH LOBBY SPACE

WOOD FLOOR

The light fixture follows the concept of Italian Gardens since it is styled after a lemon. The brass segments reflect the geometric segments that are inside of a lemon while the exterior structure is based off the general shape. The floral patterns on the holding structure tie into the floral wallpaper. Lemons are not only a common fruit found in Southern Italy but are a symbol of friendship. This helps provide a welcoming atmosphere to the Hostel entrance.

The goal of the hostel is to combine both modern and traditional styles in a cohesive blend that is both enriching and familiar. It grabs the attention of both Italian customers as well as young travelers looking for somewhere to stay. The Herringbone flooring resembles the streets of Florence while the statues and ornate designs give it a more traditional, Italian feel. The bronze elements of the light fixtures add the modern twist to the design. PART OF TABLE

RETAIL PROJECT DESCRIPTION To design a brick and mortar store for an company who has experienced great success on Etsy. The store is located in the District Hall in Boston.

THE CHALLENGE To create an interior space, as well as custom fixture designs, that highlight and display their handcraft goods. The store must also include an area where the company can produce and create their products for the store.

THE SOLUTION Since the company makes products that are primarily for children, I designed the space to be accessible to both children and adults. I also incorporated an entertainment value to the space to amuse children while their parents shop.

SOFTWARE/SKILLS SketchUp, Hand Drawing, Photoshop

EXTERIOR ENTRANCE PERSPECTIVE The Etsy Store, Funky Monkey Children, was founded by Lauren Keplinger in 2012 out of Hendersonville, North Carolina. She created the company to have something that would “keep her hands and brain busy while her husband was deployed and noticed that finding adorable baby boy clothes was somewhat difficult. The company now creates different baby clothes and accessories, for all genders, that are high quality, durable, completely customizable, and, most importantly, super cute.

Part of the project is to design product fixtures that have different functions. The Bib and Towel Fixture displays just that. The fixture incorporates wooden, bucket-like holders where products would be placed. Above each bucket is a chalkboard sign that lists the name and the pricing of each product. Below is underneath storage for extras if the bucket were to run low or out completely.

BIB AND TOWEL FIXTURE

The Teared Table to the right is to display stuffed animals. The bottom level can display up to 15 different animals and the top level displays new stuffed animals that have been recently designed. The design on below the bottom tier is also found on the walls of the interior and as pillars on the exterior doorway to tie the design together.

TEARED STUFFED ANIMAL DISPLAY

The fixture to the right stretches all along the back and side walls. It incorporates a couple of different features designed to help guests navigate the store and make the shopping experience easier. It is equipped with benches for seating for tired children as well as a place to try on clothing. Builts in mirrors provide customers with visuals and iPads are built in to help them find what they are looking for and for customization.

BACK WALL CLOTHING FIXTURE/BOOTHS

The fixture to the left is called the “Caterpillar” fixture. The arms where clothing hang act as the caterpillar legs while the display boxes act as the body. This display is found in the center of the store in front of both entrances. The products displayed are intended to be the seasonal items that are transferred out and are brand new every month or so.

SEASONAL “CATERPILLAR” FIXTURE

POP UP SHOP PROJECT DESCRIPTION To create a pop up shop for a graphic designer that makes a small but impactful retail presence. The shop is located in the Seaport District in Boston in a 180 square foot space. .

THE CHALLENGE

WOOD FLOOR

The goals is to get customers to subscribe to the monthly subscription box that the graphic designer created. The design must also comply to universal design and ADA standards. PAINT 1

THE SOLUTION Following the concept of a painters palette, I created a simple, clean design that is appealing to customers that also does not align with the typical art store. The store has interactive elements as well as circular flow that allows for everyone to experience the space in the same way.

URBAN COWORKING LOFT

PROJECT DESCRIPTION To design the interior concept for a new chain of co-working spaces set to launch their first location in the heart of Helsinki. Urban Coworking Loft is looking to become an internationally-recognized brand, known for promoting tomorrow’s concept of a dynamic and flexible workplace that focuses on sustainable, ergonomic design.

THE CHALLENGE One of the biggest appeals of starting your own business is escaping from the urban jungle, and giving yourself the freedom to work where and when you want. Coworking spaces provide a professional yet relaxed environment; one that is open to collaboration with other similarly-minded individuals, but still provide complete autonomy and flexibility.

THE SOLUTION

The design strictly follows ADA rules to make a space that is accessible to all users. With a number of different spaces to provide comfort to all clients, Urban Coworking Loft provides a design that is both familiar and diverse. The concept of Scandinavian Mountains also displays an atmosphere that the clients are familiar with as well as incorporate diagonal design elements.

Urban Coworking Loft has spaces designated by different colors and materials. The public areas are colored in green with a white, terrazzo flooring. The private, quieter spaces, for clients who wish to work in a more secluded area, it is designated by blue colors for a calmer feel and wood flooring to help absorb sound.

HEALING GARDEN PROJECT DESCRIPTION To create a healing garden for patients, guests, and staff of a healthcare facility to escape to and relax for a brief moment.

THE CHALLENGE To build an understanding of 4 different materials: glass, copper, concrete, and venetian plaster. These materials were to be utilized in the most creative way possible.

THE SOLUTION After researching the different materials, we created a winding, journey like path that

SOFTWARE/SKILLS Revit, Photoshop

GLASS

Glass is a solid, man-made material that is impervious to the natural elements. It can be translucent, colored, fogged, or textured. Glass also has the ability of being shaped into many different shapes, large and small, straight or curvy, simple or complex. The durable material is used for both technical and practical purposes. FOUND: Water Fixture, top of covering

COPPER

Copper is a soft, malleable, and ductile natural metal with very high thermal and electrical conductivity. It is a shiny reddish color and was one of the first metals to be manipulated by humans. It can be recycled over and over again without any loss in performance. This makes copper a very important material for creating a sustainable world. FOUND: Benches

GARDEN LAYOUT

VENETIAN PLASTER

Venetian Plaster is a decorative plaster that is applied with a spatula or trowel in multiple thin layers. The plaster is then burnished to create a smooth finish creating the illusion of depth and texture. Venetian plaster consists of plaster mixed with a fine marble dust, after several layers the plaster is then troweled to a high-gloss or matte finish. The plaster is typically applied to walls and ceilings. FOUND: Archways and covering concrete structure

CONCRETE

PRELIMINARY SKETCHES GARDEN PERSPECTIVE

Concrete is a very durable and sustainable material and is one of the world’s most used materials because of this. It is often used in a variety of building components such as flooring, structure, and the building envelope. It consists of water, aggregate, and Portland cement and is typically installed by simply pouring the liquid concrete into the mold of the desired shape. FOUND: Walkways and structure
