Spring 2019

Edition 26

Rolling into the turf Thankfully the worst of winter is now behind us and we can finally look forward to some warmer weather and the looming of a new turf season. This year will see us full to the brim with horses as 29 faces can now be seen in the yard so hopefully there are a few winners amongst them. We can count on a hard-working and loyal team to help keep the cogs turning and there seems to be a positive spirit in the yard as we can all slowly shed the layers of coats that have kept us warm during the snow and frost! Saturday mornings continue to become more and more popular thanks to Julia’s “open door” policy of welcoming all owners to the yard without the need for booking an appointment. It’s great that so many can come and see their horses in action on the gallops and then give them a stroke in the yard afterwards. We feel it is an essential and extremely rewarding part of ownership that you can hopefully all enjoy.

Chloe is top baker Cake is never wasted at Harraton Stud and the team got through plenty of it recently as we held The Great Feilden Bake Off. Each member took a turn to do some baking and the quality on offer was very surprising with not a bad one between them considering some of the team had said they didn’t even know how to use the oven! It was a close run thing with both Gemma and Chloe tied on points but Chloe came out on top as we put it out to our Instagram followers to decide who should take home the trophy thanks to her chocolate lovers’ cheesecake!

Green light for Sam We are always keen to give our team opportunities on the racetrack and the latest member to be granted an amateur jockey’s licence is Sam who recently passed his assessment at The British Racing School with flying colours. Sam will be a familiar face to many of you having started riding out for us when he was at school and started full time with the team last summer. His riding has improved endlessly since then and his commitment to the profession is admirable. Hopefully there will be a suitable opportunity for him to have his first taste of the racecourse very soon and I’m sure it will be the first step on an exciting journey.

There’s no better Biscuit! Our home-grown expat jockey Adam “The Biscuit” Beschizza capped off a memorable winter this month by winning the Jockeys’ Championship at Fairgrounds Racecourse after riding 82 winners between November - March, finishing six winners clear of his nearest rival, James Graham. Adam told the track’s correspondent; “I’m overwhelmed, this last week I was holding my breath a little bit.” “James has been a champion himself in the past. He’s a great competitor and he’s kept me honest until the line. He can play with us young guns as well.” “There are a lot of people to thank and none of this would be possible without their help. My agent Liz Morris has done a great job keeping myself in line and intact. I really appreciate her as a person, we’ve become really close since I came to America.” Many of Adam’s victories during the Fairgrounds season came when riding horses for trainer Joe Sharp. “A lot of thanks also goes to Joe Sharp,” he added. “He’s just been the life and soul of my career since I started in America. He’s a huge supporter of mine, he believs in me and that goes a long way. He’s a huge talent and I thank him very much.” Adam left the UK for the great American unknown in November 2017 and he hasn’t looked back since then, recording over 100 winners last year. With a house just bought and a girlfriend found, we doubt he’ll be coming back any time soon!

Zoe on the run You would think that she covers enough miles each morning working in the yard but Team Feilden member Zoe Fuller will soon be going the extra mile by running the Hackney Half Marathon on 19th May. She has been training hard since the New Year for her first ever half marathon and even went easy on the cakes during our Great Feilden Bake Off. All the efforts are for a great cause as she is raising money for Cancer Research UK and you can wish her well by donating to her efforts at: https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/zoesgiving-page-238 Hopefully she isn’t too stiff the following morning as there’s always plenty of work to do in the yard! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Plenty to see We encourage all our owners to visit the yard and see their horses on the gallops but it isn’t always possible so we send out weekly WhatsApp videos of all our horses galloping to their various owners. You don’t have to miss out though if you don’t have these facilities as we also post loads of videos on our YouTube channel which contains gallop reports, team insights and heaps more. Just head to: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCFgTXTGaziNskZpM4fJsHQ/videos to see what we have on offer.

Star Performers Limerick Lord has had a great start to 2019 with two wins on the board all ready. He gained his first win at Wolverhampton in January and followed that up with another success at Southwell his fifth victory at the track.

Sea Shack has proven to be a bargain after being bought for just ÂŁ800 last September as he has since been placed six times with an agonising couple of second places. Hopefully he can get his due reward very soon.

Gas Monkey has been Mr Consistent since the turn of the year and notched his third secondplace finish of the year at the start of April. He has been very unlucky not to win more races but continues to give the N.E.T. Racing Club lots of fun. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
