World Cup The World Cup is the premier international men's football tournament at the level of national teams in the world. There are also other competitions which are also football world cups, among which the FIFA Women's World Cup, with their respective categories with age limit, the World Cup U-20 World Cup U-17, all organized by FIFA. This sporting event is held every four years since 1930, with the exception of the years 1942 and 1946, which was suspended due to World War II. It has two main stages: a qualifying process in participating today about 200 national teams and finals held every four years in a seat defined in advance in which 32 teams participate during a close period of one month. The final tournament is the sporting event single most important discipline in the world (the final of the 2002 FIFA World Cup was watched by more than 1,100 million people), and the second largest general level after the Olympic Games. The World Cup has been held 20 times, in which eight countries have lifted the Cup: Brazil is the most successful team with five wins; Germany and Italy follow with four trophies; Argentina and Uruguay have won it twice, while England, France and Spain have called one-time champions. The tournament has a strong dominance of European and South American teams: first won the title 11 times, while the South Americans won it nine times and only two teams from other geographical confederations have reached semifinals: United States in 1930 and Korea South in 2002. in addition, Brazil (1958, 2002), Spain (in 2010) and Germany (in 2014) are the only teams that have won outside their continent.
