The hero of the game had to be Billy Hicks. Jax State’s 235-pound fullback. Jacksonville State had to come from behind twice to take the victory, 3-0 and 10-6. Hicks accounted for 58 of the 70 yards on the first Jax State touchdown scoring drive, scoring from the one, while reserve fullback Chester Skates crashed across from the one with three minutes left in the game to give the victory to the Alabama visitors.

Jacksonville State’s fourth trip was probably it’s finest. Jax State whipped Rhode Island, 12-10, in the Refrigerator Bowl in Evansville, Indiana.

A second trip to the Paper Bowl was extra sweet to the Gamecocks of Jacksonville State. Not only did the Gamecocks hang up their second bowl win, but in the process, avenged an early season loss to Livingston.

Charles Stough, Gamecock quarterback, ran 12 yards for the only Jax score, but the PAT attempt was short and in the end, it proved to be the difference in the game.
