Lawyer of the Year Watts C. Ueltschey Brunini, Grantham, Grower & Hewes

S

INCE BEING admitted to the bar in 1975, Watts Ueltschey, has spent most of his career representing companies and individuals in the energy sector.

He has prepared mining, drilling and division order title opinions.

Ueltschey has been involved in transactions involving the purchase and sale of producing properties and the purchase and sale of natural gas storage facilities. He has represented numerous clients before the State Oil and Gas Board of Mississippi on both storage and exploration and production issues. Ueltschey has assisted clients in the development of natural gas storage facilities in both salt domes and depleted gas fields, including the acquisition of surface and subsurface rights, obtaining requisite authority from state regulatory agencies.

Ueltschey earned his bachelor’s degree at Mississippi State University in 1972 and his J.D. at the University of Mississippi in 1975.

His expertise has been noted by a Martindale Hubbell Preeminent rating, by Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers.

Levoy Bryant ‘Bo’ Agnew Agnew Law Office

B

O AGNEW is a thirdgeneration attorney and his family has maintained the same law office on Yazoo Street in Jackson for over 60 years.

That sense of family carries over into the Agnew Law Office firm, which focuses primarily on family law.

“We’re old-fashioned from the way we do business to the building we work in,” said Agnew. “Our word is how we bond with people.”

both Lee B. Agnew, earned their law degrees from Jackson School of Law, which later became Mississippi College of Law. As you might expect in the family tradition, that’s where Bo earned his law degree in 2003, after graduating from Belhaven University.

Agnew has been married to Robyn for 17 years, and they have a daughter Cosson, 6, and a 12-yearold son Bodie – actually he’s Levoy Bryant Agnew the fifth, and he says he wants to be be a lawyer too. “But he also wants to be a baseball player,” says Bo. “So we’ll see.”

AYLA CarpenterSanders is the Executive Director and General Counsel of the Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project, Mississippi’s only statewide organization dedicated to placing underserved Mississippi residents with pro bono lawyers to assist in an array of family law matters. She received her undergraduate degrees from Tougaloo College and received her law degree from the University of Florida.

Prior to assuming her position with MVLP, Carpenter-Sanders was in private practice for 10 years as a

litigation associate.

She is a past member of the Mississippi Bar’s Women in the Profession Committee and was selected to participate in the 2014 Mississippi Bar Leadership Forum.

She is a past recipient of the 2011 MVLP Pro Bono award and she was named to the Lawyers of Color Hot List for 2014.

Carpenter-Sanders, as a volunteer, believes that the skills acquired through being a lawyer transcends into her community endeavors. She is married to Marvin Sanders, and they have three children – Jaylen, Marvin Jr. and Morgan James.

S A SPECIAL Assistant Attorney General with the Mississippi Office of the Attorney General, Emiko Faust develops and delivers training, education and resources to multiple disciplinary groups including law enforcement officers, prosecutors, judges, advocacy groups, and civil and criminal justice system personnel. She also assist prosecutors, maintains information resources and act as a liaison between groups in the criminal and civil justice system.

Previously, she was an attorney for the Mississippi Department of

Human Services. Her work included the seizure of accounts at financial institutions as well as presenting child support, contempt, and modification cases, all in an effort to obtain relief for custodial parents who are not receiving the child support owed to them.

In addition to her legal work, Faust volunteers as a counselor at Camp Sunshine in McComb. Camp Sunshine is a camp for developmentally disabled children.

Faust is a 2012 Cum Laude graduate from the University of Mississippi School of Law and member of the Mississippi Bar. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Mississippi State University.

She has written articles regarding asbestos bankruptcy trust issues and is frequently called upon to present seminars and workshops on the topic.
