Barnesville Community Guide

Welcome to Barnesville As mayor of the Village of Barnesville, I would like to extend a warm welcome to our friendly community. We are honored you have chosen to visit and enjoy all that our village has to offer. Barnesville is located only an hour and a half from Columbus or Pittsburgh, close enough to enjoy all that these urban areas have to offer, yet far enough to maintain a hometown atmosphere. Whether you are a resident, interested in the possibility of doing business here, or a visitor, the information located on our website (www.barnesvilleohio.com) should help answer any questions you might have. Barnesville is blessed with a beautiful and scenic Memorial Park that offers a pool, hiking trails, picnic pavilions, and sports facilities. Residents also benefit from vital community resources such as the highly rated Barnesville Hospital, two skilled nursing facilities, and a senior center. We also have an outstanding public school system with two private schools, furthered by a wonderful public library. The community is served and protected by an excellent Fire Department, Emergency Squad, and Police Department, all of whose employees are not only outstanding but also dedicated. Barnesville’s accessibility to Interstate 70 makes it a great location for operating a business. Our historical downtown is active in retail and professional services while still preserving a hometown feel. The

Mayor Dale Bunting airport continues to undergo improvements to benefit local business. We are working hard on the continued development of our two Industrial Parks with help from Warren Township, the Belmont County Port Authority, and the Belmont County Commissioners. Visitors will be delighted with the many attractions and interesting sites that Barnesville has to offer. These include the Watt Car and Wheel Museum, Victorian Mansion Museum, B & O Railroad Depot, Veteran’s Plaza Overlook, and the Texas Longhorn Ranch of the Dickinson Cattle Company. What we are perhaps best known for is the annual Barnesville Pumpkin Festival. The festival is always held the last full weekend in September and attracts thousands of visitors every year. Above all, it is the generous and goodhearted people who are key in making Barnesville what it is, the Jewel of Belmont County. We hope you enjoy Barnesville. It is an excellent place to live, work, and raise a family! Sincerely,

Village Administrator Roger Deal The Village of Barnesville is constantly planning for the improvement and repair of infrastructure to better serve the residents and business community. A 12 waterline to not only the Industrial Park on North St. Rt. 800 but also to the I-70/ Rt. 800 interchange was completed in 2013 blazing the way for development along the entire 6 mile corridor and increasing success of economic development at the interstate exit. The village has been working with the Belmont Co. Commissioners, Belmont Co. Port Authority, Warren Township Trustees and Oxford Mining to develop a 200 plus acre site on North State Route 800. The new industrial park will be known as the Eastern Ohio Regional Industrial Park. The access road construction began in 2009 with the water system being installed in 2012. Electric was installed in 2014 and the sanitary sewer system was installed in 2015. The first tenant moved in during 2014. Two additional buildings were built in 2016 with two more in 2018. An extension of the water and sewer system will be made this year to expand the park even further. Barnesville is currently working with gas and oil companies in the hopes of strengthening our local economy and creating employment for our residents. Currently officials are working on the replacement of the Slope Creek Waterline to allow for a larger volume of the precious resource to be delivered to the water treatment facility as well as planning improvements to the wastewater treatment Plant. The downtown business district has maintained that hometown feel and has managed to fill the majority of retail and office space. Village Council is currently working to improve the 100 block of West Main by purchasing dilapidated buildings to be razed to make way for additional parking for the downtown business district. Many building owners have been giving the buildings a face lift in the downtown with second floor housing also being offered. The village has much to offer with our beautiful well-used park that

Barnesville

offers not only a great picnic spot but a regulation swimming pool that was just upgraded in 2018, a fishing lake, the Amazing Playground structure, group camp, five ball fields, a sheltered horse shoe pit, recently upgraded hiking and exercise trails, an amphitheater for concerts, lighted tennis and basketball courts. We have our own airport, a modern library, a highly rated hospital to serve our health care needs, and a great senior center for our elder population. The village offers tourist attractions such as the Belmont Co. Mansion Museum, the historic B & O Depot and the Watt Center for History and the Arts. The education menu is enhanced by the choices of the Barnesville Public School System with their three well-maintained buildings, Barnesville Independent Elementary, and Olney Friends Boarding High School. The business community is one of the finest with an array of choices and small town services. Barnesville continues to expand and Village Officials will strive to offer the best in infrastructure and quality of life needs. We are a progressive community with a bright future and an attitude to succeed. Our residents are what really make Barnesville the community that it is. They are hard working, friendly, and always willing to volunteer to make Barnesville a great place to live. The citizens are our greatest assets. Sincerely,

Roger Deal

Keeps Barnesville Residents Informed & Safe In July of 2018, the Village of Barnesville took on an initiative that promises to keep residents safer and better informed. This was accomplished through the implementation of the CodeRED emergency alert, high speed notification system. Using the system, village officials can provide information by phone (either landline or cell), text message, email, or through a free mobile app. It’s a convenient way for residents to learn about emergencies such as boil orders, missing persons or children, criminal activity, evacuations or other security concerns. Residents may also register to

receive emergency weather alerts. The village can also use the system to provide non-emergency information such as road closures, leaf pick-up or street sweeping schedules, fire hydrant flushing and village events. Residents and businesses are encouraged to opt-in to ensure their contact information is in the database. To do so, go to www.barnesvilleohio.com and click on the CodeRED icon. Those without internet access may stop in at the Police Department or Water Office to complete a form. There is no charge for this service.

Barnesville Murals

Local artist Twila Fisher recently created three black and white murals which depict important scenes from Barnesville's history. The murals were commissioned by the Barnesville Village Council and funded by the Council with a matching grant from the Belmont County Board of Tourism.

1

Mural #1: The United Dairy Company is one of two murals located on the back of the village building facing the parking lot at 126 E. Church St. The dairy was established in 1903 and located on the corner of Watt Avenue and Mulberry St. United Dairy eventually expanded to seven other cities in Ohio and West Virginia but closed in 1981.

2

Mural #2: The former Belmont County Children's Home is the subject of a mural on the side of 146 W. Main St. The Children's Home was located in Tacoma -- east of Barnesville and was in operation for over 100 years -- from 1880 to 1981.

3

Mural #3: Also visible from the parking lot at 126 E. Church St. is a picture of the historic Barnesville Depot, train and tunnel recreated from a photo taken in 1917. Barnesville was on the main Pittsburgh to Columbus B & O Railroad line with more than a dozen freight and passenger trains passing through town on a daily basis.

CONTINUOUS PROGRESS:

THE BARNESVILLE-BRADFIELD AIR AIRPORT PORT 1946 was the year the late Gibson and John Bradfield with assistance from Clyde Wittenbrook created the BarnesvilleBradfield Airport – a 2300 foot grass strip a mile west of town. In the late 1960s, Ohio Governor James Rhodes had a goal of putting an airport in all of Ohio’s 88 counties. The available funds allowed the Barnesville-Bradford Airport to expand its runaway to 4004 feet by 65 feet and to pave the runway surface. In late 2007, the Belmont County Commissioners and the Village of Barnesville formed the Belmont County Regional Airport Authority to oversee the operation and development of Belmont County’s only publicly owned airport. Through the years, the airport has constantly upgraded and improved its facilities through the tireless work of former Airport Manager Clyde Wittenbrook and current Manager Bob Flanagan. Most recently Flanagan has overseen a significant remodeling of the building housing the office and the pilot lounge. “The first thing I did was to ensure the U.S. flag and the POW flag flew daily in front of the office,” said Flanagan. “I then knocked down one wall of the building that was all windows – windows that didn’t work – and created a new front wall. We also have a railing on the porch, a ramp, and a new sign. Inside, we replaced a lot of drywall, tiled the floor, remodeled the bathroom to make it ADA compliant and installed a new furnace and ductwork.

JERU

The rest of the airport also received attention. “The State Inspector complained it was hard to see our runway numbers,” said Flanagan. “So I painted the entire runway by hand. I used a 12 foot stencil to apply the paint for the numbers and striping. It took 140 hours of labor. We installed new runway lights three or four years ago and got new windsocks. Kimmel Painting recently repainted the hangers. They did a fantastic job.” Additionally, the airport has purchased land to the west of the runway so the road can eventually be moved a little further away from the approach path of the planes taking off and landing. “Our Board wants to move forward, and I like to always see progress,” said Flanagan. “The airport looks so nice now. We get lots of positive comments from pilots. I’d be glad to show it off to anyone who wants to stop by!” In the past two years, Alex Stephen of Stephen Air leased property at the airport for the construction of a new hanger to house his airplanes and his flight instruction school. Alex has since added on to his hanger to house additional airplanes. The airport authority also completed a major waterline installation project in 2018. Over 4,000 feet of waterline was installed in a 12 month period. At the same time, underground electrical service was extended to the east end of the airport. The Belmont County Regional Airport Authority remains committed to improving the infrastructure at the airport and maintaining the facility for years to come.

The area offers easy transportation options with I-70 running east-west through the heart of Belmont County and nearby I-77 and I-79 running north and south connecting the Barnesville area to major markets such as Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Washington D.C – all within 500 miles. In addition, Barnesville has made wise investments in infrastructure. Three reservoirs containing 900 million gallons of usable water serve the area. Barnesville’s water treatment plant can filter 2.5 million gallons a day. The village is currently rebuilding its waste water treatment plant to create a state of the art facility. Barnesville has the enviable position of being located in two Joint Economic Development Districts (JEDD) each of which has attracted several new businesses over the last few years. Barnesville is home to two industrial parks. The older park east of town on St. Rt. 147, the JERU Industrial Park, recently received a new sewer line. The recently developed East Ohio Regional Industrial Park sits just north of town off State Rt. 800. The village extended water lines to that park and then all the way past it to the St. Rt. 800 exit from I-70. The Barnesville-Bradfield Airport features a category B-1 runway with a width of 65 feet and length of 4,004 feet. Over 2 million dollars of improvements to the airport’s infrastructure have been realized over the last 10 years. Good schools, beautiful countryside with many recreational opportunities, a full service hospital and associated outpatient services, a village with historic Victorian charm, and most importantly – welcoming people -- make Barnesville a great place to do business. Crafts Made Easy

Towards the beginning of 2018, Giselle Wells took a big step and created a business that would incorporate the things she loves to do. “I’ve always loved the arts,” she said. “I’ve gone from playing the cello to making things with power tools and have enjoyed learning all kinds of skills. Crafting of all sorts has always been part of me!” Wells began by showcasing and selling her handiwork at local fairs and bazaars and has since branched out to her Etsy store: CraftsbyGSW. She mainly uses wood – but also chalkboard and fabric --as the base for a design: designs made from a variety of stencils, transfers, inks, stains, and paints. “I work hard to locate designs to use that are fresh and different. And not long ago, I discovered a chalk paste --- which is easy to remove at first and then dries to become more permanent,” said Wells. One of Wells’ biggest sellers is a Baby Milestone Blanket, which provides a cuddly backdrop for keepsake photos of baby’s first year and can be easily personalized for customers. Another mainstay of Wells’ inventory are framed wooden signs to capture a favorite phrase, saying or image for a wall talisman, such as the simple word “Blessed.” You can see examples of Wells’ work at Lendon Floral and Garden in St. Clairsville. Wells goes beyond making crafts to sell and offers customers a chance to have that fun and satisfaction for themselves by offering craft workshops for groups of all kinds. Wells is available for home or office parties, birthdays, or any special events. “Generally, I’ll bring all materials for people to use to create a finished product. I also work with customers that already have specific surfaces they would like to transform using my available stencils.” said Wells. “The last party I held, we created wooden trays with handles. Guests were able to paint and design the pre-cut trays with my collection of stencils and chalk paste. Finding the right color shade is not an issue since the chalk paste comes in multiple colors and can even be mixed to create additional colors. When first applied, the chalk is easy to remove and redo, so mistakes aren’t permanent and anyone of any ability can create something they will love to take home and show off.” So consider something unique for that hard to buy for person or get your friends together for a Sip ‘N Chalk party. Barnesville Area Education Foundation In 1979, under the leadership of Lodge L. Hanlon, the Barnesville Area Education Foundation (BAEF) was founded. “My father was on the school board for eight years, and he came to realize the schools sometimes needed things that could not be funded through their regular revenue sources,” said Ted Hanlon, current secretary for the Foundation. So the BAEF has the mission “to provide funds for the local education systems and students that might not otherwise be available through public funds.” “For example, we’ve bought physical education equipment, an auditorium curtain, risers for the chorus, equipment for Project Lead the Way (STEM educational activities), activity tables for the sixth grade Project Based Learning initiative, and we’ve paid for trips --such as to the Ohio Model United Nations and part of the cost for the annual class trip to Washington D.C. – along with many other projects,” said Hanlon. “The first thing we bought in 1980 was a very early computer for the school system. By 2014, the Foundation had spent over $250,000 in grants. This year we have around $50,000 available. We just allocate the investment returns from the fund and don’t disturb the principal, so the amount available varies from year to year.” The fund managed by the BAEF has grown from $2500 in cash and $19,000 in pledges, the amount in their first annual report, to the present value of over $2 million. The main source of income is memberships from alumni and friends who understand the importance of education and are able to pledge $100 a year for ten years. Bequests and random donations make up the rest of the Foundation’s income along with proceeds from an occasional special fundraiser.

Since the fund has grown, the Board of Trustees of the Foundation expanded their projects to include scholarships, teacher recognition awards and the Barnesville Schools’ Hall of Fame. “We have four main scholarship funds we manage,” said Hanlon. “The largest is the Zunick Fund, which is for students anywhere in Belmont County and provides selected recipients $4000 a year for four years. The other funds are the Barbara Baker Hootman Fund, the Skinner Family Scholarship and the Bob and Dorothy VanDyne Scholarship. We provide deserving students approximately $65,000 a year in scholarship money and have given well over $1 million during the Foundation’s existence.” Teachers are chosen by peers or nominated by their principals for recognition awards funded by the Foundation. The largest award is the Skinner-Bailey “Extra Mile Award” giving encouragement to those special teachers who go above and beyond. The selected teacher receives a $1500 prize. The Hall of Fame started in 1984 and has one or two alumni, selected for their notable achievements, inducted each year. Community involvement has been shown to have a great impact on the quality of education and student achievement. The Barnesville Area Education Foundation has been a helpful contributor to the schools and students of Barnesville for four decades – one more way to let kids know their community cares! You can reach the BAEF by calling 740-425-3001 with someone generally in the office from 10 am to 2 pm on Wednesdays. Their website is www.baefonline.org. The email address is baefoundation@gmail.com.

Dance Workshop & Gymnastics What goes around comes around – as they say. We might tend to think that implies things coming back to bite you if you do wrong. But in the case of DG Dance Workshop & Gymnastics, it’s the good that has come full circle through the years. Leah McClurg grew up in Barnesville and started dancing at age 5 at the dance studio run by Candace Branz Bruce (Fleagane). “I actually started with twirling,” said McClurg. “The studio was in a cute, little building next to Kennedy’s Tru Value.” McClurg loved dance and started her professional career after high school. She moved to Glendale, Arizona (suburb of Phoenix) and opened a dance studio there called Dance Gallerie Performance Center. She also taught dance at the local Glendale high school for six years. She’s judged competitions and created choreography for musicals. She’s especially proud of the students she’s had through the years. “Many did very well in dance competitions,” she said. “I’ve had dancers who have gone on to work with recording artists, been entertainers on cruise ships or performed at theme parks. I even had a student who danced in front of the Clintons during that presidency. Some have become teachers themselves.”

The Dance Workshop in Barnesville where McClurg got her start changed hands over the years after Candace Branz Bruce Fleagane’s retirement. Now McClurg has returned to Barnesville and has taken over the studio where she got her start – adding the DG in front of the name as a nod to her Dance Gallerie in Arizona of 28 years. The local studio now offers gymnastics under the direction of Terry Scott. Students from 3 through adult can take pre-dance, acrobatics, ballet, jazz, lyrical and tap lessons with instructors Tonya Trigg, Kristin McCombs, Maydson Brown, Cheyenne Mayhugh, Heaven Farnesworth, and Tayler Wolford – as well as McClurg. Recently, DG Dance Workshop & Gymnastics has expanded to take on piano and voice instructors Bill Hines and Donna Chaffee from Neals’ Music Studio, which closed after the Neals’ retired. So now the dance studio will have music lessons available also with those interested in guitar or drums continuing at Alpha Audio located at 129 ½ East Main St with instructor Scott Whitacre. DG Dance Workshop & Gymnastics is located at 137 ½ E. Main and reached through an entrance in the back of the building. The phone is 740-425-4044, and there is a Facebook page DG Dance Workshop where you can learn more.

Krave Wellness & Nutrition By Shellee Field

Krave is “shaking” things up in Barnesville. I’ve chosen to bring a healthy option to the community by opening the first nutrition club of its kind-- to not only Barnesville but Belmont County! Krave is a nutrition club that is open to the public. At Krave, health coaches are eager to introduce the public to healthy products and encourage better nutrition. The main attraction at Krave is the wide variety of made-to-order Herbalife shakes. The health coach takes all our new clients through a three step process on their first visit to the club. The first step is a small glass (shot size) of mango aloe. This promotes better digestion. The next step is a glass of herbal tea to increase energy and aid in focusing. Lastly, our client chooses a flavor of protein shake from the huge list of choices. Each shake is full of at least 24 grams of protein and 21 essential vitamins. The shakes range roughly between 150 to 350 calories. Each shake is low in sugar and carbs but high in fiber. Depending on an individual’s goals and needs, the shakes can be used to help with weight loss or build muscle. I’m willing to assist clients with their goals and help design a custom plan for each person. Free wellness evaluations are always available by appointment. The evaluation will help our coaches create a meal plan and calorie budget for each client. As well as shakes, a full line of nutritional products are available at Krave. We also have skin care and products that help with muscle building. In addition to the products, Krave offers weight loss challenge programs, and we will soon be hosting workout classes. Krave is located at 119 East Main St. in Barnesville. Winter hours are Monday – Thursday, 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. We’ll have extended hours in the summer. For more information about the products or upcoming classes, call 740-7050594, and like and follow us on Facebook! 30

At The Barnesville Senior Center Lunch is at 11:30! A tasty, hot nutritious lunch is served every Monday through Friday (except holidays) at the Barnesville Senior Center! Lunch isn’t the only special meal. The center offers coffee and donuts every morning and a special breakfast once a month on the first Wednesday. Each third Wednesday, there is a Senior Dinner at noon. If you are unable to come to the center, there are homebound meals sent out through Senior Services of Belmont County (740-425-4142). Need a ride to breakfast or lunch? If you are over 60, the center will help with transportation to their location at 229 E. Main St. in Barnesville. You can also catch a ride to doctor’s appointments and grocery shopping trips. Plus the center travels for fun: out to eat about once a month and other interesting excursions. The center’s new director, Kay Driscoll, has started a swimming trip every Tuesday! For just $3.00, those who wish travel to Moundsville for water aerobics at the Four Seasons indoor pool. An on-your-own free swim is available after the class – followed by a lunch outing. The center has also recently dusted off its exercise equipment, so seniors can stay in shape without gym fees, and there is chair volleyball and corn hole tournaments to combine fitness and fun. Mental fitness is important too and seniors keep minds sharp playing cards and dice games with friends. Cinch tournaments are a regular attraction. Don’t know what Cinch

is? Come and find out! The center helps you manage. Presentations on health, finances and safety tips are a regular feature. Sign up for HEAP or a Golden Buckeye Card to make those dollars stretch further. You can bring these and other concerns to the friendly staff at the center. They will do their best to help. Recently the center began a new initiative to connect with the broader community. “We are the only one of the senior centers with a license to cook and serve food,” said Driscoll. “We are going to experiment with offering lunch to the community once a month --either to eat in or take out. We hope local workers on their lunch hour will stop by for something home-cooked and a little different and also get acquainted with our programs.” There’s much more going on – so stop by and see for yourself. The Barnesville Senior Center is one of 11 Belmont County Senior Centers operated by Senior Services of Belmont County. The center’s hours are 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. – Monday through Friday. The phone is 740-425-9101 if you have further questions.

Barkcamp State Park: Make your walk more interesting! They say we can stay in shape without engaging in extreme sports. Sure, running, tennis, fast-paced volleyball, and the like are good for you, but a whole host of health benefits are realized just from taking a walk. To make your walk more interesting, consider stepping away from the track and head out into Mother Nature. Barkcamp State Park has four trails ready for hiking, and you can find one to suit your level of fitness. The Lakeview Trail gives just what it promises: views of Barkcamp’s 117 acre lake where you can also exercise by boating and swimming. The fishing is great too. The Lakeview Trail is 1.7 miles long and classed as “moderate.” The Woodchuck Trail is in the same area as the Lakeview Trail. It covers 0.3 miles and is classified as “easy.” Go to the other side of the lake near several of the campgrounds and you’ll find another “moderate” trail: The Hawthorn Trail, which is 0.6 miles long. Nearby, The Hawk Trail is 0.5 miles and considered “easy.” Across the road from The Hawk Trailhead is a restored log cabin that now serves as a general store where you can buy water for your hike or camping supplies if staying longer. And nearby you will see an antique barn decorated with the historic Mail Pouch logo. The barn was constructed in the 1800s by an orchard man named Solomon Bentley. Bentley was respected enough to have a variety of apple named in his honor – the Bentley Sweet. You may be able to take a break from your walk and learn something from one of the park’s nature center programs which are often held in the barn. There’s a longer trail in Barkcamp for snow skiing, snow mobiles and equestrian use. The Blue Trail is 6.4 miles and used most often as a bridle trail, but people who want a long hike do walk it. Another fun activity at the park is the 18-hole mini golf course. After exercising your legs on the trails, you can swing your arms too, and the kids will find the golf challenge interesting! You can find a map of the hiking trails and all the other park features at parks. ohiodnr.gov/barkcamp. The park is located at 65330 Barkcamp Rd., Belmont, OH 43718. Phone: 740-484-4064.

The barn was painted by the late Harley Warrick of Belmont, OH. One of many where Harley left his mark.

Top 3 Growers 2018 Barnesville, Ohio Pumpkin Festival Weigh-off Results

You’ll find lots of them at the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival, with giant pumpkins brought in by growers from Ohio and as far away as Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Michigan all competing for the title of King Pumpkin. Home of the largest pumpkin ever grown in Ohio, a giant pumpkin, grown within the village limits, set a festival and a state record by tipping the scales at a whopping 2,150 pounds. 2019 will mark the 56th year of the Barnesville Pumpkin Contest – one of the most popular festivals in the state and a festival that is free to all. As many as 100,000 people come from all over the tri-state area – and no wonder. The festival is packed with activities, and there is truly something for everyone. Besides the Giant Pumpkin contest, there are contests for pumpkin pie baking, pumpkin rolling, pumpkin pie eating, fudge making, pumpkin decorating, a pumpkin baby contest, a hog calling contest, a beard and moustache contest and a tobacco spitting contest. There is a fiddle, banjo and mandolin contest. There is a very popular talent show, a book sale, a car show, displays of farm machinery, and a pet show. A queen, princess and mini-miss are selected. Shop for gifts and crafts at various vendors and locations throughout the town. Tour the Victorian Mansion Museum. Experience thrills on the amusement rides. Tap your foot along with the great musical entertainment on two stages. Best of all is the food. The Pumpkin Wagon serves pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin donuts, pumpkin pies and more. There are plenty of food vendors and the Senior Citizens and Church booths serve great dinners too. Prevent those extra pounds from piling on by entering the 5K Pumpkin Walk/ Run – consistently voted the best 5K race in southeast Ohio. Oh – and don’t miss the giant parade on Saturday afternoon that stretches for miles. And there’s plenty more to see and do! The Pumpkin Festival truly speaks to the spirit to be found in Barnesville since it requires the participation of so many volunteers throughout the community –a small village with a big heart pulling together to put on one grand party. So mark your calendars for the last full weekend of September – four days of fun September 26 - 29, 2019. We’ll see you at the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival!

Chapzz Ba B Bar ar an aand dG Gr Grill: ril ill: l: “Where Leath Leather Meets Skin!”

Chapz Bar and Grill: Cha “Where Leather Meets Skin!” “Wh During the past couple of years, we’ve highlighted some new restaurants along the National Road – but those that have stood the test of time deserve a tip of the hat! Founded in June of 2008, Chapz Bar and Grill has been an upbeat, family-friendly, and biker-friendly venue with a large dining room, a new outdoor patio, a full-service bar, and a menu with some well-known favorite dishes! The Kickstarter section of the menu begins with the Hogcicle, a pork shank sautéed in chipotle BBQ sauce. Owner Kevin Jordan points out the wings are perhaps the most popular item in the appetizer section: “They are grilled, not fried, and people love the sauces.” Look for veggies in the Field of Greens section of the menu with one of the salads, Chapz Chicks on a Bed, built with chicken salad on greens and topped with a vinaigrette dressing. Entrees include a big-seller: Chapz Ribs – served with the house-made BBQ sauce. The Sandwich section offers variety – from the Gyro to the Pepper Melt. There are no burgers in the sandwich section because they have a section of their own! “People love the Burnout Burger,” said Jordan. “That’s a half-pound burger with a skirt of sizzlin’ cheddar, red onion, pickle chips, bacon, and mustard. It really looks stunning with all the cheese.” The End of the Road menu section offers delectable desserts including a Fudge Lava Cake and the Chapz Hog Road, a deep fried cheesecake topped with cinnamon-sugar and whipped cream. There is a special Little Bikers Menu for the younger set. Jordan and his staff make customers feel at home by creating a special atmosphere. The bar/ restaurant is a great place to watch the game with friends, and you’ll find you make new friends through special events such as the Halloween Party, Bike Night, Comedy Night and various live music events. Chapz Bar and Grill is closed Mondays. You’ll find them at home from 11:00 am to close, Tuesdays through Fridays and noon to close, Saturdays and Sundays. You can keep up with events and check the menu by visiting www.chapzbarandgrill.com or Facebook. The phone is 740-782-0069.
