Vodafone Malta has launched a smartphones’ and tablets’ sale, giving six customers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to win a trip to the McLaren Technology Centre in the UK. Departing on October 8, the winners will go on an all-inclusive trip that includes a guided tour of the impressive McLaren Technology Centre. Foundation, academy assist in children’s development

Vodafone Malta Foundation chairperson Gemma Mifsud Bonnici recently visited St Margaret College’s Kalkara Primary School for a demonstration of how the Helen O’Grady Academy programme helps children develop their creativity and social skills. For the past few years the foundation has provided children at school with the programme to boost their confidence, encourage attentive listening and improve their knowledge of English. Weekly classes cover speech, movement, creative expression, language development and a short improvised play.

The Farsons Beer Festival The 33rd edition of The Farsons Beer Festival, which started on Friday, promises ten days of the best in local and international award-winning beers and Malta’s best line-up of musicians and artists. Entrance is free of charge with free parking available in the vast parking area outside the Park. The programme started on Friday with Funk Initiative and Maddee Loveday & Conditions Apply from the UK on the Main Stage, and Plan 0, Fire and Xtruppaw on the Rock Stage. On Saturday there were Thea, Christabelle and Freddie Portelli on the Main Stage whilst Skimmed, Dripht and Texanna rocked the Rock Stage. Planet Seed and Ira Losco will be performing on the Main Stage on Sunday, and Zeriouz Funk, Rami aka DiRoots-Yute & Edward Holland Junior followed by the Juuls Reggae Party on the Rock Stage. The Kids Area will be animated by a special half hour daily show for children in the Greek Theatre. The official Festival Mug, which has become a collectible item for most visitors of the Festival, will be available from most bars. Fifteen food stations will be offering a wide mix of food dishes. The main sponsor of the Festival is Vodafone with other sponsors including Gasan Zammit Motors, Malta Tourism Authority and 89.7 Bay. PUBLIC TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS An agreement has been reached with Arriva for the extension of public transport to and from Ta’ Qali. During the ten days of the festival, Ta’ Qali will be served by route 53 from Valletta from 19:30, and all Arriva services will be extended with the last bus leaving Ta’ Qali at 24:00, charged at the €2.50 night fare. Vodafone team help families realise their dreams Vodafone’s Enterprise and Wholesale Business Team took some time off and spent a memorable CSR day at the Millennium Chapel to promote Solidarity and Dignity while helping families who have passed through rough times. Vodafone employees collected money and donated groceries to 15 families that attend the Millennium Chapel for support. The families were invited to spend a fun filled day together with Vodafone employees. After being welcomed by Fr. Saviour Grima and his volunteers, all involved were divided into two different groups.The elderly and parents enjoyed a day bowling at the Eden Super Bowl followed by lunch at the Avenue Restaurant and Buffalo Bill Steak House. Whilst the kids enjoyed a unique entertainment experience at Funland Malta, with amusement games and activities organised for them followed by lunch at the same establishment. During his opening speech on the day, Fr Saviour Grima showed footage of the services that are on offer at the Millennium Chapel on a daily basis, thanks to volunteers who give their support and time to help these families. “During the planning stage of this day, our main scope was to provide all the families with a day that promotes Solidarity and Dignity,” said Fr Saviour Grima. “The families and individuals who were chosen have passed through very difficult times in their life. Once a person reaches rock bottom it is not easy to see the light at the end of the tunnel and tend to resort to self-pity, which in turn is self-destructive. The main aim of this initiative was to give these families hope. The Enterprise & Wholesale Team are enriched with good communication skills and given the briefing, they succeeded in making our families feel loved, cared for and part of society. Airport Impressions headlining The Farsons Beer Festival tonight Much-loved local band Airport Impressions are the main act tonight on the Main Stage at The Farsons Beer Festival. Running until Sunday, 4th August at Ta’ Qali Park, the festival sees Malta’s best artists perform on two stages.

Tonight the programme on the Main Stage starts with Claire Caruana Carsons, followed by UK sensation Lauren Aquilina. Half Maltese, Lauren is causing quite a stir in the UK and in Malta with her music. Airport Impressions will close the Main Stage.

The Rock Stage opens with Three Stops to China, followed by Dolls for Idols, Stolen Creep and Cable35.

The Farsons Beer Festival offers the complete range of Malta's local beers, including the Cisk range and classic brews such as Hopleaf Pale Ale and Blue Label Ale. Public Transport

Arriva Malta have extended their public transport service to and from Ta' Qali and for the duration of the Festival, Ta' Qali is being served by route 53 from Valletta from 19:30. London Fashion Week SS14 schedule unveiled

The British Fashion Council (BFC) has announced the provisional schedule of the London Fashion Week (LFW) spring/summer 2014, slated to run through September 13 to 17, 2013. Felder Felder would kick start the first-day event with showcase of its collections on September 13, while Todd Lynn would close the day’s show. In between will show designers and brands including, Bora Aksu, Haizhen Wang, jasper Conran, Daks, Pearce Fionda, PPQ, Eudon Choi and Christopher Raeburn. As Zoe Jordan opens the second day show, others including John Rocha, Antipodium, Markus Lupfer, House of Holland, Orla Kiely and Julien Macdonald would follow. The second day is also scheduled to show women specific collections by James Long and J.W. Anderson. On September 15, attendees would get to see collections of Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, Margaret Howell, Barbara Casasola, Emilia wickstead, L’Wren Scott, Paul Smith, Temperley London, Matthew Williamson and others. Smythson, who is featuring in LFW for the first time, would debut with a top-secret event on the third day, while the same day would also bid farewell to Emma Hill who for the last time would present her collection for Mulberry. On fourth day of the event would show British luxury brand Burberry Prorsum, and alongside would show others like Christopher Kane, Pringle of Scotland, Peter Pilotto, Erdem, Antonio

Children to benefit from Hands on Heritage programme

Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna has launched the 2013 edition of the Hands on Heritage educational

programme. Targeting school children, this programme is focused on getting them more engaged with their rich cultural heritage, by literally providing them to experience episodes from our past. This programme forms part of the collaboration between the FWA and Bank of Valletta. School children are invited to one of the many sites managed by Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna such as Fort Rinella or the Malta at War Museum, where specially trained animators engage the students in practical sessions meant to help them understand the more complex elements of our history and heritage. The launch of this programme this year was held at Fort Rinella. Joyce Tabone, manager Media and Community Relations at Bank of Valletta met Mario Farrugia, CEO, Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna during the launching session of Hands on Heritage 2013. “The Hands-on-Heritage programme offers students a unique opportunity to handle period instruments and tools and learn how they worked and how they were used,� said Mr Farrugia.

The 200-strong Joseph Calleja BOV Children’s choir met with Joseph Calleja himself during rehearsals at the Divine Mercy Church in San Pawl tat-Targa on Monday evening. The Maltese tenor joined the children in rehearsing the Kleinzach song. This was the last time that the choir of little voices, that will be accompanying Joseph Calleja during his much-awaiting concert this Thursday, met at the Chapel. As from Tuesday 30th July, their rendez-vous becomes the main stage on the Granaries Square in Floriana where everything is falling in place for the big event. Joseph Calleja thanked the children for their efforts. “You are privileged to gain exposure to different genres at such an early age. This is an opportunity which I never had, and it will serve you well in broadening your horizons as you grow up.” Joseph Calleja also thanked soprano Gillian Zammit who has taken it upon herself to coach the choir year after year, a task she does with unfailing dedication, and to a degree of impeccable perfection. Karmenu Vella, the Minister for Tourism congratulated the children for their unique opportunity to accompany Joseph Calleja the world’s most renowned tenor during his concert. Marking the 200th ‘birthday’ of both Richard Wagner and Giuseppe Verdi on the first weekend in August, the Unitel Classica music channel will air Die Meistersinger Von Nürnberg on August 2 and Falstaff on August 3 as part of the Salzburg Festival – each being broadcast live at prime time i.e. 8:15 p.m. GO interactive viewers have even more to look forward to over the 2nd weekend in August on the Unitel Classica TV channel! Preparations for the Joseph Calleja Concert in full swing

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat accompanied by Michael Galea Chief Officer Operations at Bank of Valletta paid a courtesy visit during the dress rehearsal of the Joseph Calleja concert, which sees the Maltese Tenor himself singing alongside the BOV Children’s Choir, accompanied by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. The scene was quite suggestive, with a group of 200 children flanking the musicians of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, It was amazing to watch the excitement on the little ones’ faces. They have been rehearsing hard, under the direction of soprano Gillian Zammit. ‘ Michael Galea, Chief Officer Operations at Bank of Valletta said that BOV was delighted to be the main sponsor of the Joseph Calleja concert. "It is great to see all the elements that will feature in this year's concert, including the BOV Joseph Calleja Children's Choir, come together following many weeks of rehearsals," said Mr Galea. The Joseph Calleja BOV Children’s Choir rehearses with the Maltese Tenor

The 200-strong Joseph Calleja BOV Children’s choir met with Joseph Calleja himself during rehearsals at the Divine Mercy Church in San Pawl tat-Targa on Monday evening. The Maltese tenor joined the children in rehearsing the Kleinzach song. This was the last time that the choir of little voices, that will be accompanying Joseph Calleja during his muchawaiting concert this Thursday, met at the chapel. As from today, their rendez-vous becomes the main stage on the Granaries Square in Floriana where everything is falling in place for the big event. Joseph Calleja thanked the children for their efforts. “You are privileged to gain exposure to different genres at such an early age. This is an opportunity which I never had, and it will serve you well in broadening your horizons as you grow up.” Joseph Calleja also thanked soprano Gillian Zammit who has taken upon herself the coaching of the choir year after year, a task she does with unfailing dedication, and to a degree of impeccable perfection. Karmenu Vella, Minister for Tourism congratulated the children for their unique opportunity to accompany Joseph Calleja the world’s most renowned tenor during his concert.
