RatherthantryingtofeelGod,ourpostureissimplytobewithGod,regardlessofhowwefeel.Godis alwaysclose!HemadeHisdwellingwithinus(Col.1:27;2Tim.1:14).HowmuchclosercouldHe possiblyget?

Let’slookatfourspiritualpostures,andhowtheyworkwiththerelationalapproachtoGod.

The Practice of Prayer

Firstandforemost,atthefoundationofourspiritualwalkisprayer. Prayer,simply,istalkingtoGod.ItistheactofpresentingourselvesbeforeGod.It’sthe practiceofcommunicatingwithGodthroughspeakingandlistening—withorwithoutwords.We couldofferalotofwordsaswebowourheads,butifourwordsareanoutwardshowforothers,ora checklistthatwearetryingtogetthrough,it’snotrealprayer.

PrayeriscentraltoourlifewithGod.Withoutprayer,wehavenomeaningfulrelationshipwith Him.ItisnowonderthatSatantriestopreventusfromdevelopingagoodprayerhabit.

The Practice of Christian Meditation

WhenIreferto“meditation,”I’mnotreferringtoeasternor“NewAge”spiritualmeditation.Imean specificallyChristianmeditation—asScriptureusestheterm.Joshua1:8a(ESV)says,"ThisBookofthe Lawshallnotdepartfromyourmouth,butyoushallmeditateonitdayandnight,sothatyoumaybe carefultodoaccordingtoallthatiswritteninit."Psalm77:12says,"Iwillponderallyourwork,and meditateonyourmightydeeds."
