INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE

Congratulations on the Silver Jubilee of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Moldova. Over the last quarter of a century, the NOC has demonstrated, as illustrated by this commemorative book, its strong commitment to developing sport and promoting its fundamental values to as many as people as possible, especially young people. This book also recounts the history of the Olympic Movement in the country and recalls also the great moments of the nation’s athletes, as well as the increasingly important role of the NOC in the national sporting movement, since its creation in 1991 and its official recognition by the Olympic family in 1993. Since their first Olympic participation under the Unified Team flag at the Olympic Winter Games Albertville 1992, and since the Olympic Winter Games Lillehammer 1994 as an Independent country, the Moldovan athletes have taken part in each Olympic winter and summer edition. Even if they have won only seven medals so far, they have become champions in people’s hearts, in particular the young generation, inspiring them to dream. If I had to pick examples, it would be the current NOC President and fellow Olympian, Nicolae Juravschi, triple Olympic medallist and

multiple world champion in canoeing, as well as the Secretary General, Christine Vasilianov, a fellow fencer and European and World Junior medallist. Many thanks to them and all the NOC team for their commitment and all the efforts they undertake in making sport an integral part of Moldovan society. Today, the NOC is an efficient and reliable partner, not only for the International Olympic Committee, but also for the European Olympic Committees. The Olympic Movement is only as strong as the strength of all its partners together, and together we have to deal with some important challenges in the coming years, as the role and relevance of sport in society continue to grow. The National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Moldova has achieved a great deal in its short history. I am convinced that this will continue for many years to come. May I wish the NOC of the Republic of Moldova and the national sports movement every success for the future, especially as we look forward in 2016 to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer. Once again, a very happy 25th anniversary.

De-a lungul ultimului sfert de secol, CNOS a demonstrat, așa cum este ilustrat în această remarcabilă carte, angajamentul ferm pentru dezvoltarea sportului și promovarea valorilor sale fundamentale în rândul unui număr cât mai mare posibil de persoane, în special din tânăra generație. În această carte este relatată, de asemenea, istoria Mișcării Olimpice din țara dumneavoastră, rememorându-se, concomitent, înălțătoarele momente ale sportivilor voștri, precum și rolul tot mai important al CNO în mișcarea sportivă națională, de la momentul creării sale, în 1991, până la recunoașterea sa oficială de familia olimpică, în 1993. Începând cu prima participare, în componența Echipei Unificate a statelor ex-sovietice, la Jocurile Olimpice de vară din Barcelona (1992), și la prima ediție a Jocurilor Olimpice de iarnă, ca țara independentă, la Lillehammer (1994), sportivii moldoveni au luat parte la fiecare ediție a Jocurilor Olimpice de iarnă și de vară. În acest sens, aș alege, ca exemplu, pe actualul Președinte CNOS Nicolae Juravschi, participant la Jocurile Olimpice, triplu medaliat olimpic și multiplu campion mondial la caiac-canoe, și pe Cristina Vasilianov, Secretar General CNOS, medaliată la campionatele mondiale și europene pentru juniori la scrimă. Astăzi, CNOS este un partener de încredere și eficient, nu numai pentru Comitetul Olimpic Internațional, dar și pentru Asociația Comitetelor Olimpice Europene. Mișcarea Olimpică este puternică atunci când sunt puternici și partenerii săi și doar împreună trebuie să depășim mai multe provocări în anii următori, deoarece rolul și relevanța sportului în societate continuă să crească. Comitetul Național Olimpic al Republicii Moldova a realizat foarte multe în scurta sa istorie. Aș dori să urez CNOS mult succes în promovarea sportului moldovenesc, mai ales acum, când suntem în preajma Jocurilor Olimpice de la Rio din vara anului 2016.

Message from the President of the European Olympic Committees Patrick Hickey It is a true honour for me to introduce this book commemorating the 25th anniversary of the National Olympic Committee of Moldova. I can still remember what a great feeling it was to witness Moldovaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s first appearance at an Olympic Games in Lillehammer in 1994. For the people of Moldova and the National Olympic Committee, it must have been a truly special occasion, one which is carefully documented in the pages of this excellent book. I have very fond memories of Lillehammer 1994. And the Games are widely regarded as one of the best Winter Games ever. My opinion today, as it was at the time, is that this was down to the excitement and sense of wonder which Moldova, and the eight other former Soviet states competing under their flag for the first time, brought to those Games.

Fast forward to today and the National Olympic Committee of Moldova can be very proud of its record at subsequent Olympic Games and Winter Games. While a gold medal remains elusive for now I think there is great cause for optimism in the performances of Moldovan athletes at London 2012 and at the European Games in Baku this year. It will not be long before a Moldovan athlete climbs the highest step of the podium as an Olympic champion. What is more important, therefore, is to continue your great work in using sport to promote the Olympic values of excellence, respect and friendship. Sport is a great instructor of these values and it also helps promote peace and cooperation between nations. Congratulations on your 25th anniversary. Yours in friendship and sport,

Mesajul Președintelui Asociației Comitetelor Olimpice Europene Patrick Hickey Este o adevărată onoare pentru mine să prezint această carte apărută cu prilejul celei de-a 25-a aniversări a Comitetului Național Olimpic al Republicii Moldova. Îmi mai stăruie în amintire acel mare sentiment de a asista la prima apariție a Republicii Moldova la Jocurile Olimpice de la Lillehammer, în 1994. Pentru cetățenii Republicii Moldova și pentru Comitetul Național Olimpic acest eveniment a fost o mare șansă, evocată și în paginile acestei ediții. Lillehammer 1994 mi-a lăsat amintiri foarte plăcute. Această ediție a Jocurilor este în general considerată ca fiind una dintre cele mai bune ediții ale Jocurilor de iarnă care au avut loc vreodată. După părerea mea, Jocurile de la Lillehammer au fost un moment crucial în istoria mișcării sportive mondiale. Pentru prima data, Republica Moldova, precum și alte state ex-sovetice, au participat la Jocurile Olimpice sub propriile drapele, ceea ce mi-a adus un mare sentiment de admirație.

În prezent, Comitetul Național Olimpic și Sportiv poate fi mîndru de realizările sale la Jocurile Olimpice de vară și la Jocurile de iarnă care au urmat. În timp ce o medalie de aur rămâne un vis realizabil în viitor, performanțele sportivilor moldoveni la Londra, în 2012, și la Jocurile Europene de la Baku din 2015 creează un mare motiv de optimism. Nu e departe ziua cînd un atlet moldovean va urcă treapta cea mai înaltă a podiumului olimpic. Ceea ce este mai important, cred, constituie dorința dvs. de a continua să depuneți o muncă asiduă în promovarea valorilor olimpice pe plan internațional, bunăvoința și respectul. Sportul este un mare instructor al acestor valori care, de asemenea, contribuie la promovarea păcii și a cooperării între națiuni. Felicitări cu ocazia celei de-a 25-a aniversări.

From Rome 1960 and Moldova’s first medal earned by Gusman Kosanov to London 2012 bronze medals of Anatoli Cîrîcu and Cristina Iovu, the history of our country’s participation in the Olympic Games is filled with moving moments, unforgettable happiness, remarkable victories and painful losses. The successes of our athletes at the 1st European Games, where three wrestlers have earned medals, as well as the spectacular new generation of Youth Olympic Games and European Youth Olympic Festival Champions and medallists make us look forward to Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 with great hope and promise.

Atletismul a fost sportul de debut la Jocurile Olimpice al sprinterilor moldoveni. Gusman Cosanov și Valentina Maslovskaia sunt primii sportivi care au marcat istoria sportului național. Ambii au fost antrenați de „părintele fondator” al atletismului din Moldova Anatoli Maslovskiy, (tatăl Valentinei), care i-a însoțit pe discipolii săi la Jocurile Olimpice în capitala italiană. Gusman Cosanov a alergat în cursa de calificare la 100 m cu rezultatul de 10,7 sec., stabilind același timp în sferturile de finală. Din păcate, rezultatul nu a fost suficient pentru a trece în finală. Însă, visul olimpic al lui Kosanov s-a împlinit totuși. Efortul unit al echipei sovetice de ștafetă 4x100 m a adus Moldovei prima medalie olimpică. Cu rezultatul 40.1 în finală, Gusman Cosanov, Leonid Bartenev, Yuri Konovalov și Edvin Ozolin au câștigat medalia de argint, cedând primul loc echipei din Germania, conduse de renumitul sprinter Armin Hary. Marea Britanie s-a clasat pe locul al treilea. Valentina Maslovskaya a început lupta ei pentru medalii la 200 m, stabilind un rezultat de 24.0 în preliminarii și continuind spre semifinale cu 24,6, ajungând a șasea. Din păcate, rezultatul nu a fost suficient pentru a merge mai departe în finală. Cu toate acestea, la fel ca și în cazul lui Gusman, momentul de glorie pentru Valentina la Olimpiadă nu s-a încheiat aici. Athletics was the sport that has seen debut of Moldovans athletes at the Olympic Games. Sprinters Gusman Kosanov and Valentina Maslovskaya became Moldova’s trailblazers at the Olympics. Both were coached by the « founding father » of Moldovan athletics Anatoli Maslovskiy (Valentina’s father), who accompanied his disciples to the Italian capital. Gusman Kosanov ran 10.7 in the 100 m qualifying race, clocking in exactly the same time in the quarterfinals. Unfortunately, the result did not suffice to move to the final. Kosanov’s dream of Olympic glory did not go to waste. It was the 4x100 relay m, and the united effort of the Soviet men’s relay team that would bring Moldova its first ever Olympic medal. With the result of 40.1 in the relay final, Gusman Kosanov, Leonid Bartenev, Yuriy Konovalov and Edvin Ozolin earned silver, having conceded the top spot to the Germans, led by the renown sprinter Armin Hary. Great Britain earned the third place in the race. Valentina Maslovskaya started her fight for medals in 200 m with a 24.0 result in the qualifiers and moved on to the semifinals with 24.6, becoming the 6th. Unfortunately, the result did not suffice to move forward to the finals. Yet, just like in Gusman’s case, Valentina’s time at the Olympics was not up. At the time of the Olympics, Soviet quartet Vera Krepkina, Valentina Maslovskaya, Mariya Itkina and Irina Press were ruling European Champions, and, naturally, medal stakes were high. Unfortunately, the interference of Soviet sport officials led to tensions and in the finale the team stopped just one step away from the Olympic podium and obtained the 4th place. en

Potrivit istoriografiei sportive oficiale, Gusman Cosanov și Valentina Maslovskaya au fost primii și unicii olimpicii moldoveni prezenți la Roma. Totuși, ei nu au fost singurii care au adus faimă sportului național. Discipolul școlii atletismului moldovenesc și membru al echipei URSS, alergătorul Avram Krivosheyev, a devenit al 10-lea în semifinala cursei de 800 m (1:48,25). Înainte de desfășurarea Jocurilor Olimpice, sportivul s-a mutat cu traiul la Cernăuți. Viitorul soț al Valentinei Maslovskaya, atletul Viktor Bolshov, de asemenea a luat parte la această ediție a Jocurilor Olimpice. La acel moment Bolshov reprezenta Rusia. Concurența în proba de săritura în înălțime a fost acerbă – într-una dintre încercări (2.14), patru săritori – Viktor Bolshov, Valery Brumel, Robert Shavlakadze (toți trei din URSS) și americanul John Thomas au confirmat recordul olimpic la momentul Jocurilor. Shavlakadze și Brumel au stabilit rezultatul 2.16 și au împărțit medaliile de aur și argint. As the official story goes, Gusman Kosanov and Valentina Maslovskaya were the Moldovan Olympians present in Rome, yet, they were not the only ones whose lives were one way or another connected with Moldova. A fellow disciple of Moldovan athletics school and member of USSR team, middle-distance runner Abram Kryvosheiev became 10th in 800 m semifinal with 1:48.25. By the time of the Rome Olympic Games, the athlete moved moved to Chernivtsi (modern Ukraine). Valentina Maslovskaya’s future husband Viktor Bolshov (athletics - high jump) had also taken part in the 1960 Olympic Games, at that time representing Russia. Competition was fierce - in one of the attempts (2.14), four jumpers, Viktor Bolshov, Valery Brumel, Robert Shavlakadze (all three – USSR) and American John Thomas have all confirmed the standing Olympic record. Shavlakadze and Brumel would afterwards clear 2.16, taking the Olympic gold and silver medals. Aruncătoarea de disc Lia Manoliu, care s-a născut la Chișinău în 1932, orașul fiind parte a Regatul României la momentul respectiv, s-a mutat cu părinții la București în 1940. La Roma, Lia a câștigat o medalie de bronz la aruncarea discului. Patru ani mai târziu, ea va obține a doua sa medalie, iarăși de bronz, la Jocurile Olimpice de la Tokyo din 1964. Râvnitul aur olimpic a venit, în cele din urmă, la Mexico, în 1968.

In Rome, Lia earned her first Olympic bronze medal in discus throw. Four years later, she would earn her second bronze at Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games. The coveted Olympic gold would finally come in Mexico in 1968.

Sportivii moldoveni nu au participat la ediția Jocurilor Olimpice din anul 1964, care s-au desfășurat la Tokyo, în Japonia. Viktor Bolshov a ratat șansa de a concura pentru medalii la Tokyo din cauza accidentării. Gusman Kosanova revenit în Kazahstanul său natal și a început să-l reprezinte pe arena internațională. Sprinterul nu a ajuns însă în finala de 100 m, oricum a luat locul 5 în ștafeta 4x100 de metri, în componența echipei sovietice. Abram Kryvosheev a ocupat locul 11 în semifinala de 800 m.

Moldovan athletes did not take part in the Olympic Games of 1964, which were held in Tokyo, Japan. Viktor Bolshov missed out on the chance to compete for Tokyo medals due to injury, while Gusman Kosanov, who, by 1964, returned home and began to represent his native Kazakhstan. The sprinter did not make it through to the 100 m finals, but took the 5th spot in 4x100 meters relay together with the Soviet team. Abram Kryvosheev placed 11th in men’s 800 m semifinal. en

La Mexico, Republica Moldova a fost reprezentată de 3 sportivi. Această ediție a Jocurilor a fost marcată de debutul reprezentanților de caiac-canoe. Discipolii renumitului antrenor Aleksandr Kirpichenko, Naum Prokupets și Mikhail Zamotin (din Leningrad) au terminat cursa canoe dublu (K-2, 1000 m) pe locul al treilea, astfel câștigând prima medalie de bronz din istoria Moldovei. Cu părere de rău, Dmitri Matveyev, membrul echipei caiac patru (K-4 1000 m), a ratat șansa de a concura pentru medalii olimpice din cauza spargerii bărcii. După căsătorie cu Valentina Maslovskaya, Viktor Bolshov a început să reprezinte Moldova. Sportivul s-a clasat pe locul 16 în etapa de calificare la sărituri în înălțime și nu a participat la etapa finală.

In Mexico, Moldova was represented by 3 athletes. This edition of the Games was marked by the debut of Moldovan canoeists. Disciples of acclaimed coach Aleksandr Kirpichenko, Naum Prokupets and Mikhail Zamotin of Leningrad finished third in 1000 m canoe doubles race (C-2), thus earning Moldova’s first ever bronze medal. Regretfully, Dmitry Matveyev’s kayak fours team (K-4 1000 m) had to miss out on the chance to compete for Olympic medals due to boat breakage. After the marriage to Valentina Maslovskaya, Viktor Bolshov began representing Moldova. The athlete ranked 16th in the high-jump qualifying round and did not participate in the final. en

Pentru Jocurile Olimpice de la Munchen 1972 în selecționata URSS au fost incluși patru reprezentanți ai Republicii. Iurii Filatov a obținut prima medalie de aur pentru Moldova căpitanul bărcii de caiac patru (K-4), care a devenit victorioasă la 1000 m. Sportivul, care s-a născut în Ucraina, a crescut în orașul Dubăsari, pe malul Nistrului, și și-a început cariera sub îndrumarea antrenorului Vadim Marchenko. USSR’s team for 1972 Munich Olympic Games included four representatives of the Republic. Yury Filatov earned Moldova’s first gold medal as the captain of the Soviet kayak fours boat (K-4), which became victorious on 1000 m. The Ukrainian-born kayaker grew up in the Moldovan city of Dubasari on the river Nistru. Filatov started his career under the guidance of coach Vadim Marchenko and later continued working with renown Vadim Kachur, both of the coaches were based at Dubasari sports school. On the eve of Munich Olympics, Filatov moved to Ukraine. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, he would repeat his success and earn a second Olympic gold medal. en

Flacăra Jocurilor Olimpice de la Moscova a fost aprinsă în templul lui Zeus din Olimpia antică în data de 19 iunie 1980. „Marii preotese”, actriței elene Maria Moscholiou i-a revenit onoarea de a aprinde flacăra JO, astfel vestind începutul celui mai mare eveniment sportiv de pe glob. Această tradiție datează cu anul 1936, de la Olimpiada de la Berlin, atunci când un foc a fost aprins în Olimpia și a cărui flacără a ars pe toată durata competiției. Flacăra Olimpiadei a XXII-a a parcurs peste 2700 de km până a ajunge pe Stadionul Olimpic din Moscova. Torța olimpică a străbătut teritoriul Greciei, Bulgariei, României, ca mai apoi să-și continue marșul sportiv pe teritoriul republicilor unionale. O parte de drum – 378 km, la prima etapă, a trecut pe teritoriul actualei Republici Moldova. Acest eveniment a lăsat urme adânci în inimile populației și a dat un nou imbold pentru dezvoltarea sportului moldovenesc. The flame of the Moscow Olympic Games was lit in the temple of Zeus in Ancient Olympia on June 19, 1980. Greek High Priestess, actress Maria Moscholiou, was given the honor of lighting the harbinger of the Olympic Games. Since Berlin Olympics of 1936, the lighting of the flame and the relay that follows became an emotional prelude to the greatest sporting event on earth and the highlight of the Opening Ceremony. Over 2700 km across Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and finally the Soviet Republics, that’s how much it took the flame of the XXII Olympiad to reach Moscow Olympic Stadium. The welcome ceremony at the crossing included the much-loved Moscow Olympics mascot Misha the bear, groups of Moldovan dancers, who were accompanied by Guguta, a famous hero of Moldovan folk tales. Ștafeta de torțe a avut loc în condiții de selecție riguroasă, reunind peste 1,5 milioane de participanți. Alegrătorii trebuiau să câștige dreptul de a participa prin câștigarea competițiilor de club, regionale și municipale, precum și marile finale republicane. Peste 250.000 de persoane au concurat pentru onoarea de a deveni purtători ai torței olimpice în RSSM. people competed for the honor to become a torch-bearer in the Republic of Moldova. Only 368 made the cut (of USSR’s final total of 3000) and ran through over 50 Moldovan cities, towns and villages. Torch-bearers who received the honor of taking part in the relay included most distinguished of athletes, men and women of culture, sciences and art, World War II veterans, agricultural workers, representatives of worker’s unions, athletes representing 12 of the Soviet republics, where the route of the relay did not pass and countless students and children. In Moldova, the torch-bearer’s route has passed through Kotovsk (Hincesti), Chisinau, Lazovsk (Singerei), Orhei, Balti, Edinet, Brichany (Briceni), Lipcani and many other places. Each participant had to run 1 km in less than 4,5 minutes. Two weeks of organized training and test-runs proceeded the big moment. The torch-bearers escort consisted of 22 runners, teams of technicians safeguarding the “reserve” Olympic flame in its safety lamp, doctors, translators, photographers, and, of course, groups of journalists, who covered each leg of the way. The arrival of the flame to each of the points along the way was met by thousands of spectators. Moldovan cities and villages hosted solemn Olympic Relay welcome ceremonies to mark the special occasion.

O ceremonie grandioasă de bun venit a avut loc în Piața Biruinței din Chișinău (în prezent Piața Marii Adunări Naționale), unde mii de spectatori au asistat la un adevărat spectacol sportiv. În scenă și-au demonstrat măîestria gimnaste, luptători, călăreți, scrimeri și mulți alți. Victor Bolshov, participant la două ediții ale JO, antrenor emerit, a avut onoarea să aprindă flacăra în cazanul olimpic din fața clădirii Consiliului Suprem al republicii, în care focul a ars toată noaptea. A doua zi, flacăra a fost preluată de Dmitry Matveyev, un alt participant la JO. În lista personalităților distinse care au fost purtătorii flăcării olimpice în 1980 au fost incluși frații Mihai și Ilie Buiuc, Ivan Covorluian, Gusman Kosanov, Aleksandr Golub, Leonid Kucher, Alexandru Gancenco, Anatolie Popușoi, Nicolae Șerpul, Petru Caduc și alții. Satul Criva a fost ultimul în traseul olimpic din Moldova. Exact la o lună după ceremonia de aprindere, la 19 iulie, flacăra a ajuns la Moscova. Sosirea istorică a Flăcării olimpice în Moldova a fost reflectată în diverse suvenire, dar și mai important, a fost rolul benefic asupra îmbunătățirii infrastructurii sociale. Au fost construite și renovate drumurile, școlile, clădirile sportive ș.a. Chiar și astăzi s-a mai păstrat emblema Olimpiadei din fier forjat pe gardurile mai multor sate din Moldova. Iar evenimentul de atunci mai este viu în memoria oamenilor...

In Chisinau, the Olympic flame received a grand welcome at the central square of the city where it was to spend its first night in Moldova. Thousands of people gathered at the Biruinta Square (currently, Piața Marii Adunări Naționale) to see the festive concert and grand sports spectacle involving gymnasts, wrestlers, horse-riders, fencers and many other athletes, which preceded the arrival of the torch-bearers. One the next day, the flame was taken over by Olympian Dmitry Matveyev. The list of distinguished personalities that became torchbearers in 1980 has also included brothers Mihai and Ilie Buiuc, Ivan Covorluian, Gusman Kosanov, Aleksandr Golub, Leonid Kucher, Alexandru Gancenco, Anatolie Popusoi, Nicolae Șerpul, Petru Caduc and others. The village of Criva became the last stopping-point of the torch relay in Moldova. Exactly one month after the lighting ceremony, on July 19, the flame arrived to Moscow. The imminent arrival of the Olympic Flame filled Moldova with Moscow Olympic symbols, prompted massive construction and renovation works of streets, schools, sport facilities and other infrastructure located along its route across Moldova. Even now, the wrought iron emblem of the Games can still be found on fences of many homes in Moldovan villages and the memory of the relay is still vivid along its route…

Jocurile Olimpice din anul 1988 au marcat cele mai mari succese în istoria sportului moldovenesc. Canoistul Nicolae Juravschi și partenerul său de echipă Victor Reneiski din Belarus au înscris cea mai mare performanță olimpică pentru Moldova, câștigând primul aur în dublu C-2 500 m. Seoul 1988 became the most successful edition of Olympic Games in Moldovan history. Canoeist Nicolae Juravschi of Moldova and his team-mate Viktor Reneiski of Belarus delivered Moldova’s greatest Olympic triumph to date. Winning the first gold in C-2 500 m with a distinct advantage, Juravschi and Reneiski entered the 1000 m race as clear favorites for the Olympic medals. Sfârșitul anilor ’80 a cunoscut un val de renaștere naţională în fostele republici ale Uniunii Sovietice, un fenomen care a găsit o reflecţie importantă în lumea sportului. Deseori, unii dintre cei mai puternici sportivi ai URSS, inclusiv campionii mondiali și continentali, au fost private de dreptul de a reprezenta țara la Jocurile Olimpice din cauza complexității procesului de selecție. În condiții egale, sportivii din Rusia și, în special, cei din Moscova, primeau un tratament preferențial, în timp ce sportivii din alte republici erau marginalizați.

The end of the 1980s has seen a wave of national revival across the Republics of the Soviet Union, a wave that has touched the world of sports. Oftentimes, some of the strongest Soviet athletes, which included world and continental champions, were denied the right to represent the country in the Olympic Games due to complexity of the selection process. La sfârșitul anilor 1980, republicile sovietice au primit consimțământul să formeze comitete Olimpice proprii. In the late 1980s, the Soviet republics were permitted to form independent Olympic committees. The Baltic Republics were the first to make the move, by restoring the Olympic Committees that existed before World War II. Latvia and Lithuania began the process in 1988, while Estonia followed in 1989. The National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Moldova would be created two years later, on January 29, 1991. The founding congress, gathered at the Luceafarul theater in the capital city of Chisinau, was attended by 178 delegates. The attendees included the top athletes, coaches, managers and directors sport schools and societies, leadership of National sport federations, representatives public administration of the Republic. The list of officials in attendance included Nickolay Lents, Secretary General of the Olympic Committee of USSR, Emil Ghibu, member of the Executive Committee of the NOC of Romania and A. The National Olympic Committee was created by an unanimous vote, the newly-created organization included 51 founding members, 23 members were elected to the Executive Committee. Seven months after the creation of the Olympic Committee, Moldova would become an independent country. Renowned journalist and TV commentator Efim Josanu was elected as the first President of the Committee. Remaining in office until 2001, he was succeeded by double Olympic Champion Nicolae Juravschi, who currently serves as the President of the organization. Alexandru Gheorgița și Valentin Guțu were elected as first vice-Presidents, while Nicolae Ambrosi was appointed as General Secretary. In 1992, flag of the Republic of Moldova made its first appearance at the Olympic Games of Barcelona, the country participated in the Games as member of the Unified Team, reuniting the former Soviet Republics. Same year, just before the Games, the Olympic Committee of Moldova received provisional recognition from the IOC, the definitive recognition would come one year later. Considering the developments that followed the disillusion of the Soviet Union, the IOC called for a change of protocol allowing the use of national hymns and flags in individual events, while the team events were held under the flag of the International Olympic Committee. At the opening ceremony, the flag was borne by soon-to-be Olympic Champion weightlifter Tudor Casapu. en

În timp ce 12 comitete olimpice din fostele republici sovietice au primit recunoașterea provizorie din partea Comitetului Internațional Olimpic în martie 1992, acestora nu le-a fost permis să participe la Jocurile Olimpice în mod independent. Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games marked the first important trial for the newly-independent nations of the former Soviet Union. While, 12 NOCs of the former Soviet Republics received the provisional IOC recognition in March of 1992, they were not yet allowed to compete at the Olympic Games independently. The nations formed the Unified Team (EUN), which included the athletes from Moldova and all Soviet Republics, except the Baltic States, which became members of the IOC before WWII. Recognition required a particular commitment from the NOCs, including major sports restructuring within the countries and the adaptation of organizational in compliance with the Olympic Charter. În 2012, Londra a devenit primul oraș din lume care a atins un triplu remarcabil, onoarea de a găzdui Jocurile Olimpice de 3 ori. Moldova a fost reprezentată de 20 de sportivi, care au concurat pentru medaliile la 9 sporturi. Halterofilii Anatoli Cîrîcu și Cristina Iovu au arătat performanțele cele mai remarcabile la Jocurile Olimpice de la Londra, obținând medalii de bronz la 94 kg și, respectiv, 53 kg.Anatoli Cîrîcu, antrenat de Ivan Bratan, și Cristina Iovu, antrenată de Sergiu Crețu, au devenit singurii moldoveni care au urcat pe podiumul olimpic, iar 4 sportivi au intrat în top 10 în categoriile sportive respective. Dan Olaru a ocupat locul 9 în tir cu arcul, Vasile Belous s-a plasat pe locul 9 la box, Svetlana Saenco a ocupat locul 10 la lupte libere, iar Ion Luchianov a terminat cursa finală la 3000 m obstacole pe locul 10. Mulți dintre foștii noștri compatrioți au reprezentat alte țări la Jocurile de la Londra. Pe lista celor mai notabile rezultate sunt incluse numele Nataliei Vieru, locul 4 în turneul de baschet, reprezintând Rusia; Dimitri Colupaev a devenit al 4-lea la înot, 4 x 200 m stil liber (Germania) și Victor Mihalachi – locul 7 în C-2 caiac-canoe 1000 m.

In 2012, London became the only city in the world to have achieved the record treble, having received the honor of hosting the Olympic Games for the 3rd time in history. Moldova was represented by 20 athletes, who competed for the medals in 9 sports. Weightlifters Anatoli Cîrîcu and Cristina Iovu have shown the most outstanding performances at the London Olympic Games, having earned bronze medals in 94 kg and 53 kg respectively. Anatoli Cîrîcu, coached by Ivan Bratan and Cristina Iovu, coached by Sergiu Crețu became the only Moldovans to step on the Olympic podium, while 4 other athletes have also entered the top 10 in their respective events. A XXII-a ediţie a Jocurilor Olimpice de iarnă s-a desfășurat în orașul rusesc Soci în perioada 7-23 februarie 2014, câteva probe având loc în orașul-staţiune Krasnaia Poliana. Aceasta a fost prima ediţie a JO organizată în Federaţia Rusă, considerându-se că Jocurile Olimpice de vară din 1980 de la Moscova au avut loc în fosta Uniune Sovietică. A fost şi prima ediţie a Jocurilor Olimpice cu Thomas Bach în funcţia de președinte al CIO. Republica Moldova a participat la Jocurile Olimpice de iarnă din 2014 de la Soci, cu o delegaţie de 4 sportivi, care a concurat la 3 sporturi (biatlon, sanie, schi alpin). A fost cea de-a 6-a participare a sportivilor moldoveni la Jocurile Olimpice de iarnă, debutul fiind consemnat în anul 1994, la Lillehammer, Norvegia. La Jocurile Olimpice din 2014 cel mai înalt rezultat l-a înregistrat Bogdan Macovei, clasat pe locul 36 în concursul de sanie.

The XXII edition of the Winter Olympic Games took place in the city of Sochi, Russia on February 7-23, 2014. A number of events of the program were held in the station city Krasnaïa Poliana. Sochi 2014 became the first edition of the Olympic Games to be organized by Russia, taking into account that Moscow 1980 Olympic Games were organized by the Soviet Union. The Games also became the first that Thomas Bach attended as the IOC President. 4 athletes competing in 3 sports (biathlon, luge and alpine skiing) represented the Republic of Moldova at Sochi Olympic Games. Primele Jocuri Europene Primele Jocuri Europene

First European Games Prima ediție a Jocurilor Europene a fost găzduită de capitala Azerbaidjanului, Baku, de 12 iunie până la 28 iunie 2015. Peste 6000 de sportivi au luptat pentru dreptul de a câștiga una dintre cele 844 medalii. Sportivii au reprezentat 50 de ţări, inclusiv Kosovo, care fusese recent acceptată în calitate de membru al CIO. Programul a cuprins 16 discipline olimpice și 4 non-olimpice: baschet trei-la-trei, fotbal de plajă, sambo și karate. Delegaţia Republicii Moldova s-a prezentat la Baku având cea mai numeroasă echipă cu care ţara noastră a participat vreodată la un eveniment internaţional de o asemenea anvergură. În total, 86 de sportivi, reprezentând 12 ramuri de sport au concurat în Azerbaidjan. În cadrul delegaţiei cel mai mare grup l-a constituit echipa de atletism.

The Inaugural edition of the European Games was hosted by Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan on June 12 - 28, 2015. Over 6000 athletes representing 50 countries, including Kosovo, which recently joined the IOC, have fought for the right to earn 844 of the medals. The program of the Games included 16 Olympic and 4 non-Olympic sports: 3x3 basketball, sambo and karate. Republic of Moldova’s delegation to Baku became the country’s biggest National Team to ever participate in an international competition of such a grand scale. 86 athletes representing 12 sport took part in Baku. In total, 86 athletes representing 12 sports branches competed in Azerbaijan. Athletics team represented the largest part of the group. en

Luptele, aflate la originea Mișcării Olimpice, au inaugurat programul competiţional al Jocurilor Europene 2015. Svetlana Saenco, antrenată de președintele Federaţiei de lupte Victor Peicov, a deschis scorul medaliilor pentru Moldova, câștigând medalia de bronz la categoria 75 kg. Alexandru Chirtoacă a câștigat o altă medalie de bronz la lupte libere, categoria 57 kg, în timp ce Piotr Ianulov (86 kg) a adus a treia și ultima medalie pentru ţara noastră, una de argint. Echipa de atletism a Republicii Moldova s-a oprit la un pas de podium (locul 4), rezultate ce merită o menţiune deosebită. Doar 38 de puncte au făcut diferenţa între echipa Moldovei și cea a Israelului, ultima câștigând medalia de bronz. La un pas de cucerirea medaliei de bronz a fost Vladislav Arventii, taekwondo, 68 kg, care a cedat în repriza suplimentară în fata spaniolului Joel Gonsalez Bonilla. Din păcate, un alt reprezentant la taekwondo – Aaron Cook – și echipa de box a Republicii Moldova s-au confruntat cu o concurenţă acerbă la Baku și nu le-a fost dat să urce pe podium.

Wrestling, the sport that stood at the origins of the Olympic Movement, inaugurated program of the 2015 European Games. Svetlana Saenco 2015, coached by Wrestling Federation President Victor Peicov, opened the list of Moldovan medallists by winning the bronze medal in 75 kg. Alexandru Chirtoaca followed Svetlana’s lead and took the bronze medal in 57 kg, while Piotr Ianulov (86 kg) conquered a third medal for the country, this time a silver. Moldova’s athletics team stopped one step from the podium (finishing 4th), a result that deserves a particular mention. Only 38 points separated the Moldovan team from Israel, which won the bronze medal. Prima vizită a Președintelui Comitetului Internațional Olimpic Juan Antonio Samaranch în Moldova în 1992 a deschis calea pentru dezvoltarea relațiilor internaționale ale Comitetului Național Olimpic al Republicii Moldova. După recunoașterea definitivă a de către CIO, reprezentanții Moldovei au participat activ la sesiunile CIO, s-au dezvoltat legături puternice cu COE și ACNO și numeroase organisme internaționale de conducere sportivă . Cu diverse ocazii reprezentanții Comitetului s-au întâlnit cu Președintele și conducerea de vârf a CIO și a altor organizații internaționale, asociații și federații europene, mulți dintre care au efectuat vizite oficiale în Moldova. In special, Comitetul Național Olimpic și Sportiv al Republicii Moldova încurajează implicarea reprezentanților organizațiilor internaționale cu sediul în Republica Moldova și membrii corpului diplomatic străin. Numeroși membri ai misiunilor diplomatice iau parte la evenimentele sportive din Moldova, inclusiv OlympicFest, Cina Olimpică, expozitii, conferințe de presă și altele.

The first visit of International Olympic Committee President Juan Antonio Samaranch to Moldova in 1992 paved the way for development of international relations of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Moldova. After the definitive recognition of by IOC, Moldovan representatives have actively participated in Sessions of the IOC, have developed strong ties with EOC and ANOC and numerous international sport governing bodies. On numerous occasions the representatives of the Committee have met with the President and senior leadership of the IOC and other International and European Associations and Federations, many of whom have visited the country with official and friendly visits. Notably, the National Olympic and Sports Committee of the Republic of Moldova encourages the engagement of representatives of international organizations based in Moldova and the members of foreign diplomatic corps. Numerous members of diplomatic missions take part in Moldovan Olympic events, including OlympicFest, Cina Olympica Gala, press conferences and others. en

Juan Antonio Samaranch, Președinte al Comitetului Internațional Olimpic a vizitat Moldova pentru a doua oară în luna mai 1999. Șeful CIO a fost însoțit de vicepreședintele Pal Schmitt și Pere Miro, șeful Departamentului de relații CNO-CIO și director al Solidarității Olimpice. Delegația CIO s-a întâlnit cu mai mulți oficiali sportivi și politici și au discutat problemele de dezvoltare a sportului în țară, precum și progresele care au fost înregistrate de la prima vizită a președintelui Samaranch în 1992.

CIO a adoptat proiectul Zilei Mondiale Olimpice în ianuarie 1948 în timpul celei de-a 42-a sesiuni, care a avut loc la St. Moritz. Ziua Olimpică a fost concepută ca celebrarea globală a Ideii Olimpice, încurajând unirea oamenilor de pe tot globul, indiferent de vârstă, gen sau religie, și comemorarea creării Comitetului Internațional Olimpic la 23 iunie 1884. Această dată a fost marcată și de renașterea Jocurilor Olimpice, anunțată de Pierre de Coubertin. Nouă țări au sărbătorit prima ediție a Zilei Olimpice: Austria, Belgia, Canada, Marea Britanie, Grecia, Portugalia, Elveția, Uruguay și Venezuela. Numărul țărilor participante creștea din an în an. Moldova s-a alăturat sărbătoririi Zilei Olimpice în anul 1991, anul creării Comitetului Național Olimpic. Până în anul 2015 numărul Comitetelor Naționale Olimpice care celebreaza Ziua Olimpică a depășit cifra de 200, în timp ce numărul participanților a constituit milioane de oameni. În 2009 au fost introduși pilaștri “Move, learn and discover!” (“Mișcă-te, învață și descoperă!”) cu scopul extinderii activităților de Ziua Olimpice. Pentru Comitetele Naționale Olimpice, această zi a devenit una de bază în ceea ce privește promovarea valorilor olimpice de prietenie și respect între națiuni, a încuraja modul de viață sănătos prin practicarea sportului de către cetățenii statului. Programul Zilei Olimpice reunește traditional activități sportive, culturale și educaționale pentru participanții de toate vârstele. Pentru mulți dintre ei, festivitățile devin prima oportunitate de a lua cunoștință de experiența olimpică. Din anul 1987 Ziua Olimpică este asociată în primul rând cu Cursa Zilei Olimpice. The IOC adopted the project of a World Olympic Day in January 1948 during the 42nd IOC session held in Saint Morritz. The Olympic Day was intended as a global celebration of the Olympic idea, encouraging the union of people across the globe, regardless of age, gender or religion, and commemoration of the foundation of the International Olympic Committee on 23rd of June 1884. The date also marked the revival of modern Olympic Games by Pierre de Coubertin. Nine countries celebrated the first edition of the Olympic Day: Austria, Belgium, Canada, Great Britain, Greece, Portugal, Switzerland, Uruguay and Venezuela. The number of participating countries grew year by year. Moldova joined the Olympic Day festivities in 1991, the year of the creation of the National Olympic Committee. By 2015 the number of NOCs celebrating Olympic Day surpassed 200, while the number of participants has surpassed millions. In 2009 “Move, learn and discover!” pillars were introduced to broaden the scope of activities on Olympic Day. For the NOCs, the Olympic Day represents the leading opportunity to get people moving, advocate sport for all, highlight the contribution of sport to resolution of social issues of global importance and promote Olympic Values of excellence, friendship and respect. The program of the Olympic Day traditionally reunites engaging cultural, educational and sport activities for participants of all ages. For many of them, the celebrations become the first opportunity to get acquainted with the Olympic experience. Since 1987 the Olympic Day is primarily associated with the Olympic Day run. The popularity and scale of Moldovan celebrations have steadily grown over the years. What began in 1991 as an Olympic Day Run grew to a race that attracts over 10,000 of participants every year. Proiectul de lege a fost propus de către Președintele CNOS, dublul campion olimpic Nicolae Juravschi, deputat în Parlamentul din anul 2011.

The festival, celebrated on the third Saturday of May, serves as the opening of the national Olympic month filled with competitions, lectures and cultural events celebrating sport. On December 17, 2015, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova adopted the law establishing a new National holiday, the Day of the Athlete and the Olympic Movement. The legislative project was proposed by NOC President, double Olympic Champion Nicolae Juravschi, who has served as a Member of Parliament since 2011.

Youth Olympic Games

Jocurile Olimpice de Tineret (JOT) au fost create la inițiativa președintelui Comitetului Internațional Olimpic Jaques Rogge în anul 2007. Evenimentul reunește sportivi cu vârsta cuprinsă între 15 și 18 ani. Ediția inaugurală a Jocurilor Olimpice de Tineret de vară a avut loc la Singapore în 2010, primele JOT de iarnă au avut loc la Innsbruck (Austria) în 2012. Viziunea Jocurilor Olimpice de Tineret este de a inspira, a educa, a fortifica și a atrage o nouă generație de sportivi. Jocurile de Tineret adună împreună cele mai promițătoare tinere talente din lume, ajutând superstarurile în devenire să facă primii pași în drumul spre sportul de performanța. Participanții la JOT sunt încurajați să concureze, să învețe și să împărtășească cunoștințele și cultura lor, ceea ce îi va ajuta să dezvolte competențe esențiale, care le-ar permite să devină adevărați ambasadori ai sportului pe care îl practică. Programul cultural și educativ JOT (PCE) se bazează pe olimpism, responsabilitate socială, dezvoltarea talentelor, comunicare, bunăstare și un mod de viață sănătos. Participanții la Jocurile Olimpice pentru tineret iau parte la diverse activități interactive și distractive, care oferă posibilitatea de a explora diverse culturi și istoria mișcării olimpice. În mare măsură, programul edițiilor de vară și de iarnă ale JOT corespunde cu programul Jocurilor Olimpice, însă Jocurile Olimpice de Tineret reprezintă, de asemenea, o oportunitate de a experimenta variante inovatoare ale probelor sportive, adăugând și probe mixte cu participarea reprezentanților din diferite țări. Jocurile Olimpice de Tineret respectă ciclul tradițional de 4 ani între ediții.

Youth Olympic Games (YOG) were created on the initiative of the International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge in 2007. The event reunites athletes aged from 15 to 18. The Inaugural Edition of the summer Youth Olympic Games was held in Singapore in 2010, while the Winter Youth Olympic Games were staged in Innsbruck (Austria) in 2012. The vision of YOG is to inspire, educate, empower and engage a new generation of athletes. The Youth Olympics bring together the most promising young talents of the world, helping the superstars of tomorrow make their first steps on the road to elite sport. The participants of the YOG are encouraged to compete, learn and share their knowledge and culture, ultimately developing essential skills, which would allow them to become true ambassadors of their sport. The YOG Culture and Education Programme (CEP) is based around Olympism, Social Responsibility, Skills Development, Expression and Well-being and Healthy Lifestyles. The participants of the Youth Olympic Games take part in workshops, challenges, as well as other interactive and fun activities giving them an opportunity to explore different cultures and the history of the Olympic Movement. The program of the Summer and Winter editions of the Youth Olympic Games largely corresponds program of the Olympic Games, the YOG also represents an opportunity to experiment with innovative event formats, including mixed-country and mixed-gender events. Both of the events follow the traditional Olympic Games 4-years cycle.

A doua ediție a Jocurilor Olimpice pentru tineret a avut loc la Nanjing, China. Moldova a fost reprezentată de 11 sportivi la 6 discipline. Serghei Tarnovschi a cucerit prima medalie de aur în istoria Moldovei la proba de caiac-canoe (C1 sprint). Luptătorii moldoveni (stil liber) au câștigat încă două medalii la Jocurile de la Nanjing. Dumitru Ceaucusta a câștigat argintul la categoria de 100 kg, iar Tatiana Doncila a cucerit medalia de bronz la categoria de 46 kg. Prezentat publicului în mod oficial în timpul ceremoniei de lansare a sit-ului echipei Moldovei pentru Jocurile de la Londra 2012, Dragusor a devenit în scurt timp un personaj indispensabil mișcării olimpice din țară. Mascota are la bază mitul despre dragonul dacic din antichitate, cunoscut sub numele de Draco. Chipul temutului dragon-lup era înfățișat pe scuturile de luptă ale războinicilor daci. Dragusor simbolizează curajul de luptă, dar și paza de prmejdii, menit sa încurajeze lupta spre marile victorii sportive. La fel ca și Draco, Dragusor are cap de lup si corp de șarpe. Corpul este ornamentat cu elemente din eposul popular al civilizației Cucuteni-Tripolie (5500 î.Hr. – 2750 î.Hr.), azi teritoriul României, Moldovei și Ucrainei. Motivul mascotei a fost preluat de pe o amforă găsită în regiunea Florești, pe care imagine Dragusor avea aripi din panglici din culorile tricolorului.

Officially presented to the public during the unveiling ceremony of the London 2012 Moldova team kit, Dragusor quickly became an integral part of the country’s Olympic identity. The mascot is based on the ancient Dacian dragon, also known as Draco. The fearsome dragon-wolf was often depicted on battle standards and shields of Dacian warriors. Inspired by its ancient predecessor, Dragusor aims to embolden the Moldovan Olympic Team and guard them on their way to great achievements. Just like Draco, Dragusor bears the head of the wolf on a body of a serpent. The body of the serpent is covered by ornaments of Cucuteni-Tripolie culture, which existed between circa 5th and 3rd millennia B.C and ruled parts of territory of modern Romania, Moldova and Ukraine. The motif was borrowed from an amphora found in Floresti region of Moldova, while the triangular “wings” that encircle Dragusor’s body bear the colors of Moldovan national flag. en

Cel mai mare și cel mai renumit muzeu olimpic din lume a fost deschis de Președintele CIO Juan Antonio Samaranch la Lausanne în anul 1993. Misiunea Muzeului Olimpic din Republica Moldova este de a colecta și de a face accesibile obiecte de valoare istorică, culturală și educațională, legate de Mișcarea Olimpică și dezvoltarea sportului în Moldova și peste hotare. Muzeul a fost creat în data de 22 aprilie 2004, prin decizia executivă a CNOS al Republicii Moldova iar în iunie 2007 Muzeul și-a deschis oficial ușile pentru primii săi vizitatori. Fostul Secretar General al CNO Nicolae Ambrosi a devenit primul director al muzeului. Din anul 2016 Muzeul Olimpic este condus de Natalia Doneț.

The Museum was established on April 22, 2004 by the executive decision of Moldovan NOC and on June 2007 the Museum officially opened its doors to first visitors. Anul 2016 a marcat o schimbare în gestionarea muzeului. Cu ajutorul Centrului de Studii Olimpice și CIO, Muzeul Olimpic din Moldova a adunat o arhivă importantă de video și imagini. Colecția digitală cuprinde imagini rare ale sportivilor moldoveni la Jocuri Olimpice. Cărțile despre Mișcarea Olimpică, precum și materialul educațional donat cu bunăvoință de către Centrul de Studii Olimpice din Lausanne vor permite deschiderea bibliotecii olimpice. După o reevaluare competentă a colecției muzeale, vor fi renovate exponatele și achiziționate articole noi care reflectă istoria sportului moldovenesc. Proiectul de bază al Muzeului are ca scop să facă din el un centru vital al educației sportive pentru copii. Muzeul Olimpic planifică săși extindă în continuare colecția și să dezvolte elementele sale interactive, culturale și educative, care vor ajuta Muzeul să devină o organizație însemnată de cercetare și de referință sportivă în regiune.

The Museum aims to give its visitors the opportunity to discover the essential information about the Olympic Movement, while highlighting the contribution of sport to the life of societies across the globe and the universality of the Olympic values. The Museum collection currently includes over 500 items physical items, including Olympic mascots, torches, costumes from the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games. The year 2016 marked a turnaround in Museum management. With the assistance of the Olympic Studies Center and the IOC, Moldovan Olympic Museum assembled an extensive video and image archive. The digital collection now includes hours of rare footage of Moldovan athletes at the Olympic Games, as well as books about the Olympic movement and educational material gracefully donated by the Lausanne Olympic Studies Center. The existing museum collection will be extensively evaluated, in order to permit renovation of items and acquisition of new items. A landmark stategic objective of the Museum aims to make it a vital center of sport education for children. The Olympic Museum is set to further extend its collection and develop its interactive cultural and educational elements, which will help the Museum become leading sports research and reference organization in the region. en

Femeile nu au avut voie să participe la primele Jocuri Olimpice ale epocii moderne, care au avut loc la Atena, în 1896. Patru ani mai târziu, la JO de la Paris, pentru prima dată femeile au fost admise la cel mai prestigios eveniment sportiv. Aproape un secol a durat lupta pentru a egala șansele între bărbați și femei. Acest merit s-a datorat și Mișcării Olimpice care a cuprins un șir de state de pe glob, dar și Campaniei pentru drepturile egale între sexe. Mișcarea Olimpică a avut drept scop egalitatea șanselor pentru adolescente și femei la diferite discipline sportive, recunoașterea succesului sportului feminin pe arena internațională.

While they were were admitted to the Olympics in Paris four years later, over the course of more than a century women had to face a tough road. Urmând principiile strategice ale CIO, Comitetul Național Olimpic și Sportiv al Republicii Moldova a creat Comisia Femeia și Sportul, care ulterior a devenit o asociație de sine stătătoare. Asociația Femeia și Sportul este prezidată de Larisa Popova, campioana Jocurilor Olimpice de la Moscova în 1980, medaliată cu argint la JO de la Montreal în 1976, doamna care a servit drept exemplu pentru zeci de sportivi, antrenori și oficiali sportivi moldoveni. Contribuțiile Larisei Popova în promovarea egalității de şanse şi de tratament între femei şi bărbaţi a primit cea mai înaltă recunoaștere din partea CIO, care a desemnat-o laureată a Trofeului ”Women and Sport” pentru Europa. Asociația organizează seminare, training-uri, concursuri și alte evenimente, care încurajează implicarea femeilor în sport, atât în diverse discipline, cât și în structurile administrative sportive. Această activitate este susținută și la noi în țară, unde femeile îndeplinesc diferite funcții în structurile sportive, ele sprijină tinerele talente, dar nu uită și de sportivii pensionari care au clădit sportul moldovenesc. În semn de recunoștință pentru contribuția depusă în promovarea egalității de șanse și de tratament între bărbați și femei, Comitetul Național Olimpic și Sportiv a inițiat un Premiu ”Women and Sport”. Trofeul o reprezintă pe zeița Nike care ține inelele olimpice. Șefa Direcției generale educație, tineret și sport, Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb a fost desemnată drept primul laureat al premiului.

The Women and Sport association is chaired by Moscow 1980 Olympic Champion and Montreal 1976 silver-medallist Larisa Popova, who has served as an exemplary role-model for many dozens of Moldovan athletes, coaches and sport officials. Larisa Popova’s contributions to the development of gender equality in Moldova received the highest recognition from the IOC, which named her as 2003 Women and Sport Trophy laureate for Europe. The association, which organizes seminars, trainings, contests and other events, aims to promote the engagement of women in sport, inspire them to achieve their goals, promote their integration at all levels of Moldovan sport and develop support for retired athletes and coaches. Aiming to recognize the individuals and institutions, who have contributed the most to the promotion of gender equality and the development of Moldovan sport, in 2014 the National Olympic and Sport Committee established the “Women and Sport” trophy. The award represents the goddess Nike holding the Olympic Rings. Director General of General Division of Education, Youth and Sports Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb was named as the first laureate of the award.

Creată în data de 11 martie 1993, Academia Olimpică din Moldova urmează principiile de bază ale Academiei Internaționale Olimpice. Instituția este responsabilă de cercetarea și dezvoltarea Educației Olimpice în Moldova și susținerea științifică a Comitetului Național Olimpic și Sportiv. Rectorul Universității de Stat de Educație Fizică și Sport (USEFS) Pavel Tolmaciov a devenit primul director al Academiei Olimpice din Moldova. În 2001 el a fost urmat de Veaceslav Monolache, rector actual al Universității. Din 2013 Academia Olimpică din Moldova este condusă de Antrenorul Emerit al Republicii Moldova, Șeful Catedrei Educație Fizică UTM Anatolie Popușoi.

Created on 11th of March 1993, the Moldovan Olympic Academy follows the guiding principles of the International Olympic Academy. The institution is responsible for research and development of Olympic Education in Moldova and the scholarly support of the National Olympic and Sport Committee. Rector of State University of Physical Education and Sport (USEFS) Pavel Tolmaciov became the first Director of the Moldovan Olympic Academy. In 2001 he was succeeded by Veaceslav Manolache, current rector of USEFS. From 2013 Moldovan Olympic Academy is led by Honorary Coach of the Republic of Moldova, Anatolie Popusoi Head of Department of Physical Education of the Technical University of Moldova.

“Lecțiile Olimpice” lansate de CNOS, Fundația Campionilor Olimpici și Academia Olimpică în 2013 au devenit un proiect de reper în educație sportivă. Serii de lecții vizează educarea tinerilor din Moldova în domeniul valorilor și istoriei Mișcării Olimpice și a activității Comitetului Național Olimpic și Sportiv. Campionii și medaliații olimpici moldoveni, precum și mulți dintre cei mai distinși sportivi ai țării participă în mod tradițional la aceste manifestații educative. Până în anul 2016 “Lecțiile Olimpice” au avut loc în peste 50 de școli, universități și tabere de vară în întreaga țară.

The “Olympic Lectures”, launched by the NOSC, Olympic Champions Foundation and Olympic Academy in 2013 became a landmark sports education project. The series of lectures aim to educate Moldovan youth about the values and history of the Olympic Movement and the activities of the Republican Olympic and Sports Committee. The lectures are traditionally attended by Moldovan Olympic Champions and medalists, as well as many of the most distinguished athletes of the country. By 2016, “Olympic Lectures” have taken place in over 50 schools, universities and summer camps across the country.

Judoul, caiac-canoea și atletismul au devenit sporturile care au adus succes țării noastre la edițiile Festivalului care au urmat. În anul 2003 Olga Cristea a cucerit prima medalie a țării la atletism, primul aur la 800 m. Ediția Festivalului Olimpic al Tineretului European din anul 2015 a marcat un succes fără precedent pentru sportivii moldoveni. Echipa care a concurat la Tbilisi (Georgia) a reușit să obțină un total de 7 medalii, asigurând Moldovei locul 6 (din 50 de țări) în clasamentul final. Înotătorul Alexei Sancov a câștigat 3 medalii de aur și o medalie de argint (100 m, 200 m, 400 m – 1500 m toate stil liber). Nou-încoronata campioană mondială printre tineret la atletism Alexandra Emilianov (atletism – disc) a încheiat performanța de vară spectaculoasă cu aur. Ion Mihailov (judo) a adus acasă aurul la categoria 55 kg, în timp ce inotătoarea Tatiana Salcutan a câștigat argintul la 200 m spate.

Judo, kayak-canoe and athletics became Moldova’s most successful sports at the editions of the Festival that followed. In 2003 Olga Cristea conquered the country’s first medal in athletics, and the first ever gold in 800 m. The 2015 edition of the European Youth Olympic Festival marked an unprecedented success for Moldovan Athletes. The team that competed in Tbilisi (Georgia) managed to obtain a total of 7 medals, securing the 6th spot out of 50 countries on the final ranking. Swimmer Alexei Sancov earned 3 golds and 1 silver medals (100 m, 200 m, 400 m - 1500 m all freestyle). Newly-crowned 2015 IAAF World Youth Athletics Champion in discus throw Alexandra Emilianov concluded her spectacular summer performance with European Youth Olympic Festival gold.
