Dear reader, my name is Jordi Martínez Durá, and on behalf of our political party Movimiento RED I am running for Mayor of Teulada-Moraira. I would like to tell you why. Movimiento RED stands for ‘Renovación Ciudadana Democrática’ and was founded by Juez Elpidio Silva with the primary goal to combat a pestilential disease. A disease which has plagued this country for too many years. A disease we know as corruption.

Transparency, honesty and trust are core values at Movimiento RED. We strive to embody them in all aspects of our actions. Actions to preserve our precious moral, democratic values. Alas, too many things went wrong, too many bad things happened which caused disappointed citizens to lose confidence in politics, politicians and government. A matter of great concern to us.
We ask for your cooperation to stop this process of destruction by giving us your vote. If you are – like us - sick of being oppressed by the burden of unjust taxation and corruption, support Movimiento RED in our battle against back-room deals and help us cure our contaminated democratic system. It is of the utmost importance that we restore democratic morality to which we owe everything. To emphasize and clarify the social and moral obligations and duties we owe to each other. Movimiento RED wants to return democracy to its founding principles. We are convinced that sincere, transparent and accessible local politics provide a basis for a better future. A breeding ground for a healthy and warm society, reliable governance and an example for those who come after us. Our children. Our grandchildren. Movimiento RED was established to enforce recovery of transparent municipal policies and we invite you to help us in this by voting for us in the municipal elections in May. The opposition is strong – the ruling parties have a lot to lose - but with your support we will deliver what we promise. So please don’t think your vote doesn’t matter. On the contrary! We urge you to participate in these elections because your voice will be heard!
We promise that a vote for Movimiento RED is a vote for everyone that cares about the future of Teulada-Moraira. A vote for anyone who cherishes the splendor our town has to offer and wants to be part of a better Teulada-Moraira. We can do that. With your help, with your support, with your vote for Movimiento RED. This is why it’s so important you participate in the next municipal elections. The results will have an impact on major issues such as what happens to your wallets, social services, local transport, to the environment and the fate of our local economy. Teulada-Moraira is a culturally diverse community, blessed with a large group voters from countries other than Spain. We would like to involve everyone in the ‘Do's and Don'ts’ in TeuladaMoraira, so if you were born elsewhere, don’t hesitate and participate in our common future by voting for Movimiento RED. Together we will make the difference! Here are some of our pledges should we win the election: Multilingual As mentioned above, we believe that citizens - all citizens - should be heard in the town hall. Even if you don’t speak Spanish, we want you to get involved in the decision-making process in our town. Language should never be an obstacle. We therefore propose to appoint representatives to each specific group so you can directly contribute to the future of our beautiful town in your own language. Our pamphlet is an example of this. We also want to set up a multilingual telephone service for better communication between citizens and administration. We hope this will bridge the gap between citizens and administration, one of the spearheads of our policy. Environment To keep Teulada-Moraira attractive, warm and welcoming, we will improve road maintenance, we will clean our streets and surrounding areas, we will raise the standard of waste collection and we will improve the collection of garden waste. Movimiento RED wants more control over the supply of tap water to improve the quality of services and secure affordable prices. We plan to protect and reintroduce traditional crops. We must more than ever prevent damage to the environment and prevent agricultural land to be neglected. We want to use the purified water from the sewage treatment plant to irrigate agricultural lands. Tourism To ensure safety, peace and the friendly nature of Teulada-Moraira, Movimiento RED will introduce a professional service that will support hospitality and tourism. This service will also function as a hotline between the municipality and businessess, which is desperately needed. Remember the mayor closing all terraces in the middle of summer season last year? At half past two at night tourists were forced to go inside or leave the premises. Can you imagine that?
In Teulada-Moraira where so many people try to earn enough money to survive the more quiet months ahead? Tourists could not believe their eyes! How shameful. Why this was necessary, nobody knows. However, we do know that there was still one place to go if you weren’t ready to go home yet. One place where loud music was playing and nobody was kicked out. The beach restaurant. Family owned. The mayor’s family. Public transport Movimiento RED thinks that public transport in our community is bad. With your support (read your vote) we wil arrange public transport between home addresses, health centers, municipal buildings etc, etc and free of charge for elderly and disabled people. Which brings us to the expenditure of the municipality. We think you have the right to inspect the receipts and expenditures of our beautiful town. Which money did go where, rounding to the nearest penny. Under the present regime this has been a backroom conversation, but soon - if you vote for us – we will open all doors and make sure that every euro spent in this town, will be in accordance with our democratic moral standards, your wishes and the law. Where is our sewer system? Now hear this: Since it’s introduction 23 years ago you pay a tax (canon the saneamiento) of (now) € 3.55 + € 0.45 per month per m3, as a contribution to the installation of a full sewerage system. If we make a quick calculation, in all these years together we paid more than € 15 million for an infrastructure that was calculated at a cost of € 17 million. Yet half the town is without sewerage. How can that be? Where have all our millions gone to?. And to make it even worse: now there is a law that says if you have a building plot and you apply for a building license, you will only get it if you connect to the sewer system. Sounds good. But what if there is no such system? A tragedy for landowners and the Partido Popular is directly to blame for this. Movimiento RED thinks no one should be penalized for their-mismanagement and we promise to work on a costfree solution as soon as you give us the power to do so. A vote for Movimiento RED is a vote for yourself I've been working in local government for 23 years now and I have seen too many things go wrong. Keyword? Self-interest. Always. Sometimes it’s all about power, sometimes it’s just the money, but mostly it’s a combination of both. I promise you that Movimiento RED will fight corruption, mismanagement, and it-is-going-to-end!!! We will fight out in the open so you can see what we do. As a resident of Teulada-Moraira, you have every right to know what goes on in your town. Therefore, I urge you – again – vote for Movimiento RED and grant us the opportunity to put our money where our mouth is. We are not left, not right, but we think solely in the interest of Teulada-Moraira and its inhabitants. Movimiento RED is ready to stand up and do what has to be done, and I am ready.
