EIGHT Patrick Bresnan and Ivete Lucas $3333.33 PLANT GIVE AWAY Inspired by the natural landscape and the high percentage of home ownership in District Eight, Patrick Bresnan and Ivete Lucas spent several weeks building stone mailboxes with district residents in need. The search for more residents led them to discover the Natural Gardener and a supportive advocate in John Dromgoole. As the mailboxes had been gifted, the next iteration of their project focused on the gift of plant-giving. Collaborating with the Natural Gardener, the artists gave residents from District Eight free plants using 1/3 of their
grant budget, or $3333.33, to make the purchase. The participants were asked only to leave a note for Council Member Ellen Troxclair in return for their new free houseplant. After receiving a free plant, award-winning Austin actress and director Hannah Kenah performed as a news anchor conducting brief recorded interviews with residents covering topics such as the state of the natural environment, property taxes, crime and the school system.
