Welcome to Aspire This staff information book is for all staff to read to help you if a customer is asking any questions regarding what we have to offer across our service, not just here at Aspire @The Park. Aspire Health, Wakefield Councils health and fitness offer. Aspire health exists to build a healthier district through our fitness and wellbeing club facilities and wide range of offers. We have something for everyone no matter what your ability. All our sites have now been rebranded to Aspire, here are our facilities; • • • • • • • •

Aspire Health Referral Service

How to refer

We also offer the aspire health referral service this is for people with health problems, our teams of highly skilled and experienced staff can support these people and their family to lead a healthier lifestyle, this could from improving they dietary habits or be more active.

Adults 18+ years

The aspire health referral service also offers external weight management specialists so people can achieve the goal to lose weight be more active, to improve they mental health and even health condition. What does the Aspire Referral service do ?     

Provide them with tailored support for minimum of 12 weeks Support them with improving diet, being more active or both Explore individual goals and motivations and help you to work towards these Support them with strategies for changing behaviour to help you create healthier habits Support you to make long term sustainable lifestyles

Who the aspire referral service can help? The aspire referral service can support adults, families and children from the age of five. For them to receive help from the aspire health referral service they and they family will need to live within the boundaries of Wakefield District (e.g., be Wakefield Council Taxpayers).

We have 2 ways for adults to be referred into the Aspire Health Referral service: 

People can self-refer using the Wakefield Council/referral website, this should take no more than 5 minutes to complete. They will need an accurate height and weight measurement to do this. Or they can go to the GP or health professional can complete a referral form for them and email it back to our Aspire Health service team.

Children 5-18 years The Aspire Health service also offer a junior referral so if parents are interested in referring, they children must go to the GP or health professional to complete the junior referral form, then email back to the aspire referral team.


What you can expect Once the Aspire referral has been received and processed, they can expect to receive a call within 14 days from a member of the aspire health referral team. The aspire health referral team will speak to them and gather any additional information and what you are looking for support with. They referral will then be discussed to ensure that they are allocated to the best pathway to suit the needs and circumstances, additional in-depth assessment with a member of the team may require before an outcome can be agreed. Our teams are based at our facilities Our family and children Aspire health referral team W. Thorne looks after the family and children aspire health referral service. The Aspire Health service also offer a junior referral so if parents are interested in referring, they children must go to the GP or health professional to complete the junior referral form, then email back to the aspire referral team. W. Thorne will be covering across all our facilities. Our community Aspire health referral We also have a team out in the community delivering sessions to people who may not be able to access our facilities, these services are delivered across the district by J. Jukes.

Aspire Membership The aspire membership can be used across all six of our Aspire facilities and can be used for swimming, gym, fitness classes, access to On Demand Classes and live streaming fitness classes, Including a 12-week program All aspire members that bring children aged 4 years-10 years, the children can access any of our facilities half price so will only pay £1.45

Other services we have to offer across the district •

Walking: we offer several walks across the district, from on your doorstep discovers, health walks and many more. Also, we offer buggy walks and hire at several of our facilities.

Cycling: we also have several cycling routes and maps, we offer disability cycling, social cycling and we offer bike hire at several of our facilities

Disability sport and fitness

This girl can: is a nationwide campaign to get women and girls moving, regardless of shape, size and ability.

Volunteering in Wakefield’s green spaces

Story trails: across our parks and countryside we have several story trails for the young ones

50 things to do before you are 5: this is to help parents to develop their home learning environment, suggesting a wide range of low-cost and non-cost local activities. The 50-thing approach improves early language and literacy, motor skills and resilience. The 50 things to do before you are five app is available in the app store and google play store.

Love Exploring: to explore our parks and green spaces you can discover dinosaurs and find fairies at several of our parks. The love exploring app is available in the app store and google play store.

Admission policy swimming •All children aged 8yrs -11yrs must always have an adult with them in the building. •Studio Pool - Adults with two children under the aged of 4yrs can enter the pool. •Main Pool - The policy will change any children under 3yrs will be one child per adult and two children aged 4yrs to 8yrs per adult. •


Admission policy gym/fitness classes Juniors Classes - Children aged 11-15 years can access our recommended fitness classes if accompanied and supervised by a responsible person 16 years or over, the person accompanying the child must take part in the classes. The only fitness class available for 8 years and over is float fit, the other fitness classes are for children 11 years and over or 14 years and over. All children can attend the gym accompanied and supervised by a responsible person 16 years or over outside the junior gym sessions, all juniors must of an induction before using the gym. The only fitness class available for 8 years and over is float fit, the other fitness classes are for children 11 years and over or 14 years and over The 4G pitches are available for block bookings for clubs/groups/individuals are required to fill in a booking form and approved risk assessment to be completed. This must be passed onto Simon/Alex to deal with. Permitted footwear on the pitch is rubber ‘studded ‘football boots/blades We offer pre booked session this must be paid in advance and can only be booked and paid at the facility, we also offer walk in session this is one net only. Birthday parties Pool party will have a choice of fun floats or the inflatable / Under 8’s pool party fun floats and jet skis / Over 8’s pool party inflatable and fun floats Bouldering party Our climbing zone is fun, healthy, social, highly inclusive and has something for all ages and experiences levels. We have several individual and multi climber challenges of varying design and difficulty, testing agility and courage in different ways. Or a super party this includes bouldering and swimming One of our qualified members of staff will be running this session Food is also available this is additional cost to the party The birthday file is in the office with the booking forms and all the prices for parties and food price, please make sure when booking parties that the booking form is filled in and that assistant managers have the dates for parties. All aspire members only can now check in by the new check-in systems, all pay-as-you go must go to reception to book in and pay for sessions.


Climb Zone Our climbing zone is fun, healthy, social, highly inclusive and has something for all ages and experiences levels. We have several individual and multi climber challenges of varying design and difficulty, testing agility and courage in different ways. Bouldering is rock climbing stripped down to its raw essentials, leaving behind ropes and harnesses, and just climbing shoes and a bag of chalk over safety mats. Your challenges are to climb short but tricky bouldering ‘’problems’’ using balance technique, strength, and your brain. We will offer different sessions; •

Swimming Lessons Our ‘Learn to Swim’ programme takes a non-swimmer from their first splash to developing confidence and competence in the water. We follow the Swim England’s ‘Learn to Swim’ pathway. We offer swimming lessons to; • • • • • • • • •

All children enrolled on our ‘Learn to Swim programme will also have access to any of our facilities for free (swimming only)


Aspire Kids Splash Sessions Aspire kids Weekly and holiday pool-based taster and fun sessions is for children aged 5-15, these sessions may change. During the school holidays we will be offering several sessions must of these will need to book       

Stroke improvement booster sessions, this is for children working towards stage 4 on our ‘learn to swim’ programme (booking is required) Rookie lifeguard/personal survival taster sessions swimmers must be able to swim 25m (booking is required) Distance swim (no booking is required) Stage booster session this is for any children that are currently on our ‘learn to swim’ programme. (Booking is required) Competitive Swimming taster session for children working towards stage 5 and above that are currently on our ‘learn to swim’ programme (booking is required) Float fit grow children must be 8 years+ and able to swim 25m (booking is required) Weekly fun sessions Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays

Aspire Kids Holiday Club Our summer holiday club will be available from July Monday-Friday throughout the holidays. We will be offering fun, active, and affordable services, that will be delivered by our fully qualified play leaders and sport coaches who are enthusiastic and passionate. £15 per child per day 9-4pm lunch included breakfast club available 8-9 For children aged 8-12 years. These sessions are specifically for children aged 8-15 years. The children are not required to be supervised as sessions are led by qualified staff.

50 things to do before you are five

 

Here at Aspire @The Park we will be promoting the 50 things to do before you are five, this will be done through the parent and tot’s sessions on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Encouraging them to stop after the session using the café and, in the café, area will be a carpet part so parents can sit down and read to their children, draw, and do other activities. We also have a bug hotel so the children can go and spot any bugs. We will be running sessions in the bouldering room for the under 5’s Peter’s lost peregrine Peter’s lost peregrine is a story trail that is based here at Pontefract racecourse, it consists of several sculptures and story boards, a booklet to go with the story trail will be on sale here at Aspire @ The Park. The story trail is about 2 miles long around the racecourse. Junior Gym sessions These sessions are specifically for children aged 11-15 years. The children are not required to be supervised as sessions are led by qualified staff, all children are required to undertake an induction before using the gym. Please see timetable for junior gym sessions Please take note that juniors that come before or after the junior gym sessions must always have an adult with them.

Bike/buggy hire The bikes and buggies are available for booking and the lead name must fill out a form and must be a Aspire member or pay and go member, upon taking the booking a deposit of £20 for the hire of the bikes or buggies and also a payment for each bike or buggy
