Water and the Sublime

In this catalogue, Jo Kimmins investigates water, in particular the sublime in water. We are invited to view her perception of water. The majority of the images are monochrome images of dried water drops, taken from different individual water sources. Each image is idiosyncratic and refers to what Kimmins terms the ‘face’ of water. It is difficult to believe they are in fact simply drops of water as they form a diverse and wide-ranging series of images. Often as unlike our idea of what water looks like, instead resembling a bizarre range of imagery, not unlike delicate drawings or glittering lights. Through these unusual forms and shapes one can feel as though water itself is communicating to us.

The catalogue is interspersed with colour images which act like visual pauses. They draw the viewer into an unforeseen world of light and colour, exposed to us by Kimmins’ vision. This intriguing, often, bewildering array of images have the ability to entrance and encourage the viewer to linger and indulge their imagination.
