BOOK FASHION SHOW ONE YEAR FASHION DESIGN COURSE
“ONE YEAR FASHION DESIGN COUSE” FASHION SHOW | IED RIO On December 11, 2015, IED Rio had its first fashion show. The event, celebrated the end of the school year and presented final course projects of the “One Year Fashion Design course” and “Moda Praia” extention course (beachwear design). The fashion show catwalk and set was fully designed by students of the “One Year Interior Design course”. An event created by and for students! Considered to occupy the institute, the scenic scene of the event covered all the first floor: began in the main hall and, from there, permeated the lounges and stairs! The evening opened with the “Moda Praia Course” fashion show, with individual student projects presenting looks proposals for the Carioca´s summer season. The collection took three months of class-time to create. The main show of the night was the “One Year Fashion Design course” fashion show. After a year of immersion and study, creations and experiments, involved into personal collections representing students creative expressions in their exploration of Fashion. They were guided throughout the course by leading professionals in the Brazilian fashion field such as Andre Carvalhal (Coordinator IED Fashion Design Department), Rogério Espírito Santo, Carolina Althaller, Beth Piquet, Natalia Coutinho and the course coordinator Luiz Wachelke, who is with a group responsible for the practical projects of Brazilian brands like Farm and Handred.
Also included were key partners from the Carioca fashion scene, such as the shoe brands Melissa and Ipanema. Student designs were shown by models participating in the project “Jacaré é Moda”, an agency that focuses on professionalization opportunities for youth from neighbourhoods and communities on the periphery of Rio de Janeiro. The senic design was provided by the “One Year Interior Design course” students, coordinated by Bel Lobo and her staff. This course is intended also to design for ephemeral spaces. The evening was attended by students, their friends, and also IED partners linked to the world of design, fashion and architecture. Several consular representatives and influence leaders, were also present. In additian, importante names from the Brazilian fashion scene and specialized media made appearances. The event was open to the public in general, catered by “Caffetteria del Cassino”. The night triumphed with a stunning celebration and toasting party not least a touch of the “carioca lifestyle”, adorned by the Cassino da Urca´s historic building and blessed by the impressive landscape of the “Cidade Maravilhosa”. The night delighted more than 300 guests who occupied all of IED! It was a remarkable event that shall now be listed as a permanent item on the Institute’s calendar, inaugurating IED Rio as the launching pad for new designers in the fashion market. Auguri!
