Though I know the pressure will be intense from certain groups to do so, I will not support any spending requests that are outside either the available means without increasing taxes or the critical mission of educating our children. School Boards must scrutinize administration budgets to achieve quality education without oppressive taxation. Prior Boards approved huge growth in infrastructure and human resources while consistently raising taxes. We must carefully reverse this process without harming the quality of education. I will focus on efficiency and achieving measurable results for my district. Practical experience in running business, employees, benefits, insurance, payroll, legal matters, and cost-containment measures to reduce spending. ANSWER TO QUESTION: Ever-shrinking State and Federal funding threaten our public educational programs and threaten our taxpayers with ever-higher taxes. Look at all staffing, professional, administrative, support – combine classes where possible, eliminate or scale back other offerings. Reduce staff where possible without affecting program. Outsource where feasible and practical. Sell off or lease unused/idle buildings or space. Work with State Representatives for additional funding, push for new funding via 1% state sales tax increase.
