Competitive Events Regulations 1. Business attire is required for all competitive events. Failure to comply will result in disqualification of individuals, teams, or chapters from competitive events. (See FBLA Dress Code dated January 2009.) 2. Students must be on time for all competitive events. Students arriving late may not be permitted to participate in the competitive events. Arrive at the event room 15 minutes before the scheduled time. 3. Student participants must check with the event proctors to make sure that their names and schools are correct on the rosters. 4. For events with objective tests: • • • •
Students should write name, school, and grade level on their Scantron answer sheet. Tie scores will be broken by comparing the performance of the affected members on the last ten questions of the exam. Tests may not be removed from the competitive events rooms. No one will be permitted in the testing rooms except the student participants and the event proctors/judges.
5. For objective tests, use No. 2 pencils only to blacken the answers on the Scantron sheets. Blacken the entire box for each answer. 6. Interview events are closed to spectators. However, spectators are permitted in Public Speaking, Impromptu Speaking, Entrepreneurship, Parliamentary Procedure, Global Business and Partnership with Business Project. 7. All students in Impromptu Speaking, Entrepreneurship, Business Ethics, Emerging Business, Global Business, and Parliamentary Procedure MUST report at the beginning times for these events and remain in holding rooms until their assigned times to compete. Those who do not report to the holding rooms will be disqualified. 8. There will be groups of student participants and panels of judges for the preliminary rounds for Public Speaking and Impromptu Speaking. When there are three groups, three finalists from each group will be selected. When there are two groups, four finalists from each group will be selected. Finalists will speak to new panels of judges. Only the advisers of the winners will be informed and they in turn will inform their students.

Conference Regulations 1. Students must abide by the New Jersey FBLA-PBL Local Member Code of Conduct. 2. Business attire is required for all participants at the general sessions, regional meetings, workshops, awards assemblies, competitive events, and meal functions (until 9 p.m.). Jeans or other casual attire are unacceptable dress. Failure to dress appropriately will result in disqualification of individuals, teams, or chapters from competitive events. Casual attire may be worn at the dance only. (See FBLA Conference Attire dated January 2009.) 3. Attendance at the general sessions, campaign rally and workshops is mandatory. Failure to attend will result in disqualification from competitive events. If students are not competing at a given time, they MUST attend the workshops and meetings. 4. Name badges must be worn by all participants during the conference. 5. Campaign materials are to be distributed at the booths ONLY. Booths will be open between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Thursday. 6. Voting delegates must report for voting by 8:15 a.m. on Friday. Chapters attending the SLC for Thursday only may cast their votes in Conference Headquarters between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Thursday. Each chapter is entitled to two (2) voting delegates who must display voting delegate ribbons. If a delegate is absent, an alternate should be selected and given the ribbon. All voting delegates must bring No. 2 pencils to mark the ballots. 7. Curfew is 12:00 a.m. Students MUST be in their assigned rooms by that time. 8. Personal belongings are the responsibility of the participants at the conference. 9. Telephone calls outside the hotel must be made from the pay telephones near the lobby and not from telephones in the rooms. Room service should not be used. 10. Fire evacuation procedures are posted in the rooms and should be read carefully. 11. Advisers should know the whereabouts of their students at all times. Students are not permitted outside the hotel without their advisers’ consent. 12. There must be at least one school-approved adviser or adult designated by the school as adviser accompanying every ten students. 13. Conference Headquarters is the Room 1215, Hilton East Brunswick. If there are any problems during the conference, please contact Ms. Nancy Ostrowski, NJ FBLA State Chair or Ms. Chelsea Brooks, Conference Coordinator.
