ALL THE LATEST NEWS FROM AQUALUX

AUTUMN 2011

Welcome... ...to this issue of AquaSplash, bringing you all the latest news from Aqualux. As this is my first newsletter as Managing Director, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of you for the kind words and support you have given me since my appointment in this role. With trading conditions still tough across all retail sectors in the UK, Aqualux are not alone in finding business challenging at the moment. The market is in a state of flux and, in order to stay ahead of the game, companies need to adapt. That is why Aqualux is continuing to reshape itself to reflect the ever-changing market and we will continue this process over the coming months in line with our business strategy. We have, for instance, focused on actively strengthening our sales team, with a new addition to the sales force and the creation of a new National Sales role providing additional support for our customers (see pages 4 and 5). It is clear that innovation throughout the

business and exceptional customer service, both internal and external, is key to ensuring we stand out from our competitors. That is why we have created the role of Commercial Manager to further enhance our customer service offering. We have also updated the Aqualux website, so you can now order spare parts direct from www.aqualux.co.uk Despite the challenging marketplace, we have been doing well in the specification sector, with many contracts being successfully renewed. In particular, we have received a healthy interest from the hotel sector, with many decisionmakers keen to benefit from the superior value and quality of our products.

Thank you again to all employees, suppliers and customers for your continued support and I hope you enjoy this issue. Mike Heath Managing Director

Aqualux is still first choice for Lovell One result of delivering consistently excellent products and service is that it encourages strong customer loyalty, and we are pleased to announce that the Aqualux contract with housing solution specialists Lovell has been renewed for a further two years. With a ‘commitment to outstanding quality’, Lovell has been selecting Aqualux as their sole supplier of shower doors and bath screens, and optional supplier of shower trays, for over six years. This latest extension of the contract demonstrates their continued satisfaction with the quality, reliability and value of Aqualux products, as well as the high level of service.

Shine Xtra

Colin Henderson, National Specification Manager, commented, “We are delighted that Lovell and their customers are still

1

enjoying the superior product offering available from Aqualux. The reliability of our shower doors and bath screens means housebuilders can ‘fit and forget’, giving them peace of mind. The Aquarius Xtra models we have been supplying to Lovell since the contract began have been a great success and, two years ago, we extended the range of products to include Shine Xtra. Not only is Shine Xtra semi-frameless for a sophisticated look, but the 6mm glass is applied with the new Aquagleam, a special coating which resists limescale and soap for an easy to clean, sparkling finish. This means that many Lovell householders will continue to enjoy better quality for better value in the years to come.”

The key to success every time A new concept for the UK market, the innovative Slot & Lock Quadrant shower surround is a freestanding system and the very first in a series of screwless enclosures that ‘slot and lock’ together to form a watertight shower enclosure. With no tiling necessary, this product offers ease of installation for the installer and a luxury showering facility for the consumer. Among its exceptional features are polished silver effect aluminium profiles and 6mm toughened safety glass panels that slot and lock securely together with the greatest of ease. The enclosure is supplied

complete with an easy plumb shower tray and plumb fittings, chrome plated mouldings, a shelving unit, central control panel and shower column. This incorporates a chrome finish, multifunction shower head on a riser rail with integral soap dish as well as four body jets. Stylish, opaque glass side panels and a central shower column provide the perfect

finish without tiles. Cleaning is made ultra easy thanks to the clear toughened safety glass doors, which can be lifted in and out to make all areas easily accessible. The shower tray facilitates 20mm of adjustment for uneven floors. The shower valve conforms to EN1111, can utilise a supply pressure between 1.5 to 3 bar and provides a shower flow rate of 9-11 L/m. Sandra Hyde, Marketing Manager for Aqualux, affirms, “The Slot & Lock Quadrant shower surround represents great value to the installer in time saving and great value to the end customer. Due to the popularity of this product, we are delighted to announce that new additions to the range will be seen in the new year. This will extend the options still further to meet demand, meaning more customers can benefit from a high quality, luxury, water tight, quick clean enclosure that is guaranteed to stand the test of time.” A video demonstration showing how quick and easy it is to assemble the Slot & Lock Quadrant shower surround can be viewed on the Aqualux website. As an active member of the BMA (Bathroom Manufacturers Association), Aqualux encourages initiatives that promote safety and best practice. One aspect of the industry that has raised concern in recent years is the import of shower surrounds and screens made of glass that do not pass European Standards for safety. This can pose a severe safety hazard. Shower enclosures or bath screens must always be constructed using approved safety glass, as it is considerably more durable and, if broken, will shatter into a minimum of forty particles in a 50mm x 50mm area, thus preventing the hazard of large glass shards being formed. Every single one of Aqualux’s shower enclosures and bath screens meets the European Standard ‘BS EN 12150-1:2000’, ensuring that our products not only look luxurious, but the glass will be strong and safe. Dedication to change At Aqualux, we have taken the green initiative by putting in place efficient procedures that have reduced our fuel and energy use, as well as the quantity of waste materials sent to landfill. Our commitment was confirmed eight years ago, when we became ISO14001 registered, an internationally accepted standard detailing the actions required to put an Environmental Management System in place. Aqualux Production Manager, Gareth Stevens, explained, “We are lucky to have a dedicated team at Aqualux who are keen to do their bit to help save energy and reduce carbon emissions. Consequently, we have successfully enhanced our waste segregation procedures over the years so that many more materials can be recycled, including aluminium, wood, plastic, cardboard, paper, cartridges and glass. “Employees have also been trained in the different ways energy can be saved by making small changes on a

daily basis. These include ensuring equipment is turned off at the end of the day instead of being left on standby and arranging for the last person out of the office to turn off the lights. In addition, we have installed a number of energy-saving devices including water-saving taps, showerheads and low-flush or dual-flush toilets and have switched to appliances with a high energy efficiency rating to reduce fuel consumption. The results are speaking for themselves and we are determined to continue improving year on year!”

Behind the scenes At Aqualux, we are always on hand to assist our customers and our dedicated engineering team operates nationwide to provide service and support. Commercial Manager, Colin Grey, tells us more...

the glass has met this high standard, look out for the indelible BS EN mark on all our products. Glass without this essential mark may be unsafe to use. Indeed, BMA Chief Executive, Yvonne Orgill, commented that she had heard some real horror stories, including a case where the glass of some shower screens broke into large shards when struck. Toughened glass means a safer environment for the retailer and the consumer, and Aqualux products offer ultimate peace of mind with durable, tested, high quality glass every time.

Editor: What is the most common challenge your engineers face on a day-to-day basis? Colin: Our engineers handle a wide variety of issues, which makes life interesting for them as no two days are the same! One type of call-out they can receive is from householders who may be experiencing issues with a product that has been incorrectly installed. This is often the result of our instruction leaflets either not being read or being mislaid. We have listened to feedback from our customers in order to enhance our instruction booklets and it is now possible to download these off the website. So now there is no need to panic if the instructions go missing – a new set is just a mouse click away! Editor: At what other times might the expertise of your engineers be called upon? Colin: They are heavily involved when Aqualux is participating at exhibitions. The team is split into Regions, Northern and Southern, and each covers the exhibitions in their area. The engineers are involved from the start, helping to design the stand alongside the marketing team and advising on assembling the products during ‘fit-up’. When an engineer is ‘on call’ for an

exhibition, it can be quite hectic! There is usually quite a tight time schedule for these events, especially when Aqualux is participating at travelling exhibitions such as the ‘Big Tour’, which last year ran for three consecutive weeks at five major venues across the UK. Editor: What is the best way for a customer to get in touch with an engineer if they need technical assistance? Colin: The first point of contact for customers with technical and installation queries is the Aqualux Technical support team, who can be contacted on 0870 241 6131. All team members are technically qualified to solve problems over the phone before an engineer is even involved. In fact, the aim is to resolve all technical queries in just one telephone call. If the issue cannot be sorted out over the phone, the technical team will then send an email to the relevant engineer so that they can follow it up. Editor: How are your engineers alerted about customer call outs? Colin: All our engineers have Smartphones, so they can receive email alerts from the Technical Support team instantly. For each call-out, the engineer will receive

3

a job sheet and is given three working days to contact the end user and arrange a convenient time to visit. However, Smartphones were just the first phase. We are in the process of creating a full CRM service that will provide a seamless communication network for enhanced customer service and satisfaction. Editor: How do your engineers deal with customer comments? Colin: We greatly value the one-to-one feedback our engineers receive from our customers. This information is regularly fed back into the Aqualux product improvement programme and we can use this knowledge to continually enhance the design of our products in order to meet our customers’ requirements. Editor: Have any new developments improved service team performance? Colin: A new fleet of eight nationally located, branded support vehicles have recently been launched that are fully equipped with spare parts. These particular vehicles were also selected because of their fuel efficiency, which was a decision made as part of an ongoing plan at Aqualux to reduce our carbon footprint.

Strengthening the Team Aqualux has been restructuring its sales force and is delighted to announce the latest changes and additions to the team.

NEW APPOINTMENTS Colin Grey has been appointed as Commercial Manager, further strengthening our customer service offering. Colin will be heading up the sales office function whilst continuing to be responsible for the field based service engineers. Mike Jones, Sales and Marketing Director, commented, “We are delighted that Colin has taken on this important and challenging position. Given his success in previous roles at Aqualux, we are confident that he will achieve a significant step change in our customer facing proposition.”

Chris Pitts has taken on the new role of National Sales Manager. Chris will be responsible for managing the Aqualux sales team, as well as handling the company’s key distribution accounts. Having been with Aqualux for eight years and with 20 years experience in the industry, Chris will provide a valuable source of knowledge and support for both customers and the sales force.

NEW FACES Phil Edwards has joined Aqualux in the role of National Account Manager. With a vast and varied background in the

industry, Phil has been involved with sales and marketing since 1992, succeeding in a number of roles including Sales Manager, Product Manager and Business Development Manager. Aqualux Rides to the Rescue with Channel Five’s Cowboy Builders! Aqualux were delighted to be approached for the second time by the Channel Five television programme Cowboy Builders, this time to supply an Organic Walk-In shower enclosure. Hosted by Dominic Littlewood and Melinda Messenger, the show provides makeovers to families whose homes are in disrepair due to the incompetency of ‘rogue’ builders. In this episode, Dominic and Melinda visited Simon and Diane, a couple in Guildford who had fallen victim to the dangerous workmanship of a serial cowboy builder. The family had made the decision to have their home transformed in order to make life easier for Diane, whose rheumatoid arthritis had become chronic. Instead of a safe haven, however, the couple were left with potentially lethal structural issues and an unfinished roof. Since the programme was filmed, the couple now have a beautiful home including a luxurious, elegant en-suite bathroom complete with an Aqualux Organic Walk-In shower surround. The Organic Walk-In was specifically requested by the designer on the show, who wanted to give Simon and Diane a stylish bathroom retreat. On a practical note, the shower also needed to be spacious enough for Diane to enter, exit and move around in comfortably. The expansive, curved shapes of the conjoined bathing and drying areas, complete with a beautiful and sturdy bamboo footboard, made the Organic Walk-In the perfect choice.
