Flagshipstore & Trade Show Project Josef Seibel

Area: Trier

Type: Project Mgmt., Industrial Design

The core element of the whole design journey for this shoe producer was a shelf to exhibit said shoes. While it was produced to form the main sales surface in a flagship store in Trier, it was also used to form the backbone of the company‘s trade fair appearance. With its clear black surfaces, perforated sheet metal and discrete communication design of seasonal models contrasted with white bold writing, colorful shoe models and big landscape pictures, the stand speaks a very modern and down to earth yet youthful language.

Trade Show Project Janitza 02

Area: Hannover

Type: Project Mgmt., Industrial Design

Having updated their communication design, the customer wanted to express this in a fresh stand layout. Essential exhibits were kept, new ones replaced obsolete ones and new design elements were introduced. To keep the exhibition area as open and easy to overview as possible, the booth was placed as a polygonal cornerstone, with its sides functioning as communication surfaces on different levels. The customer‘s product groups were displayed as contextually connected highlight islands.

Trade Show Project Stahlo

Area: Stuttgart

Type: Project Mgmt., Industrial Design

The project was realized in close cooperation with the Berlin based communication agency mapmovingstorys. The general idea was to shift the customers‘ perception of the company Stahlo away from a mere supplier and more into the realm of marketplace and contractor, which brings together people from all directions of the industry. This reflects in the three “huts” focused on different aspects of the image change and their central “court” which are all connected by the guiding light lines on the floor.

Asked by a local manufaturer from the northsee to create a display for his jewery it took a couple of iterative steps from a standing version to a tabletop version made from rounded sheet metal and oak wood.

The idea of the chair was a scalable furniture, made using solely flat steel and simple folding. Its seating height can be changed in intervals and the two bodies form a functional and aesthetic unit, transforming slowly from a resting to a racing stance.

empower people to work wherever they feel like and set them free from static workplaces. We provided corporate employees with an affordable alternative to home office and reduce their commute by creating flexible workplaces in empty suburban spaces close to them. Besides quite disruptive ideas such as an office-bus cruising in your neighborhood or a pop-up office attached to your bicycle we also developed a quick to install furniture system that combined different functionalities of office equipment in a clever knock-down-furniture system.

„Reviving Empty Space“, Masterthesis

Area: Berlin

Type: Product Design, Architecture

Our urban environment is largely made up of residual spaces that form without ever having been planned. For such situations there seems to be usually only a rigid, architecturally economical solution. Free, iterative design in the form of high-quality, temporary solutions does exist, but it is afflicted with the same disadvantages that hinder established architectural ideas to come into fruition: material, energetic and monetary expenditure as well as the destruction of the prevailing, sometimes meaningful emptiness. At this point I would like to show with the help of Augmented Reality that it can be able to revitalize structurally weak areas of cities through minimally invasive, virtual interventions or at least lead to a changed perception of them. The consideration of the residual spaces as a field of experimentation should proclaim an updated and carefree, playful design.

„Archist“, Draft

Area: Berlin

Type: Architecture, Sculpture

„Archist City“ is an art project by Federico Babina. Here the most diverse works of art and objects of the 21st century were abstracted by the artist to 2D-architectures. The aim of the design was to lift these architectural ideas into the third dimension and to strive for a constructive elaboration. In this case, the artist‘s name is Tony Smith, one of the most important protagonists of both sculptural work and minimalism. The artist‘s sculpture „Cigarrete“ inspired Babina to create a slender, glass-like structure, which is strongly influenced by Smith‘s design. The extrusion of that 2D artwork into 3D space produced a sculpture which greatly resembles the original with a more vertical touch. By day a climbing wall that turns the work of art into a completely different object, by night the original purpose as art has been extended by a light installation that supports the overall sculptural effect.

setzen, Johannisbollwerk and Baumwall are located on the southern shore of the Hamburg Neustadt. The enormous potential of this area lies first and foremost in its immediate proximity to the water and the associated connection with the maritime character of Hamburg. Highlighting this was part of the thesis. In the course of the work, the harbour and the quay wall design as well as the promenade along the water and the subsequent development were worked on. The streets leading from the city to the marina are taken up with squares between the residential buildings and lead individually to the Hamburg Elbe. The promenade has been redesigned in a landscaped manner to become a green promenade, which leads into the new marina. To further emphasize the new urban centre, an elaborate light concept is installed.

„Object and Space“ Draft 12

Area: Rotterdam, New York

Type: Architecture, Sculpture

The decisive factor in this design was the approach of discovering the form of the architecture via a further intermediate step, a sculpture. This was intended to create maximum freedom and an additional way of thinking in the architectural mindset. After working on the sculpture, two approaches proved to be feasible and interesting. Therefore two independent buildings were developed, a pavilion for New York‘s Central Park and the shown office tower in Rotterdam. The enlighted strips of the facade climb the building at night.

In

the

office SPECHT

KALLEJA +

PARTNER ARCHITEKTEN my field of activity was versatile. Conceptual design and visualization of urban planning concepts, facades, interior design and products formed a large part of my work. Furthermore, creation of floor plans and their optimization alternated with product research, model making and brochure design. 3D printing was one of the main areas of work in model making. It involved the use of various printing materials and scales between 1:1 and 1:5000. The conception phases were characterized by extensive sketch studies and preliminary designs for presentation to the client, finally the work was often combined into presentation folders. The intensive communication with the involved project staff, executing companies as well as clients was an everyday part of the work ethic in the office, which I highly appreciate.

The idea of of the company was to develop an all-electric Vertical Take off and Landing vehicle for distances up to several hundred kilometers between cities but also as means of travel within urban areas in shorter times. My main contribution to the project was a general consulting service regarding the design of components and arrangements of parts as well as developing alternatives and iterations for high visual appeal of the project. 2- and 3-dimensional concepts for Interior and exterior areas were created and subsequently tested.

Bachelorthesis „Visions of virtual Architecture“

Area: Anno 2070 Virtual Reality

Type: Architecture, Game Design

Virtual architecture is able to establish a completely new form of architecture. Most prominently we find it in games, series and movies, where it is used to induce a specific feeling or to emphasize an idea. In our everyday reality, however, it is neither a guarantee for visionary design ideas, nor can it set new trends for future developments in architectural design. Digital games take the player into a world that is capable of showing architecture in its most aesthetically sophisticated form. Virtuality must be seen as an independent field in which things can be created that give pleasure, are beautiful and are enhanced by the character of the game. Perhaps outstanding architecture in digital worlds will also encourage the desire for real counterparts, and the game base can inspire people all over the world for the possibilities and beauties of good architecture.

Many of the tools we use every day have been changed only minimally in their form and handling for a long time. This project was primarily concerned with extending the existing principles with useful or experimental functions. The tools chosen were those which are some of the most prominent in daily tasks. This resulted in the creation of 5 highly specialized tools. An inclination and distance measuring drill, which automatically inserts the necessary bit, a safety splitting axe, which protects the user by correcting the direction, a high energy saw, which cuts the materials with a laser, a wrench, which automatically adjusts itself to the correct position, and a programmable and autonomously following and running wheelbarrow.
