40 YEARS OF LIBRARY COOPERATION Jefferson County’s public libraries have come a long way since the early bookmobile of the 1920s. Today, 22 member libraries—with 40 locations—are a cooperative offering “One County . One Card” services to hundreds of thousands of people. Formal “cooperation” officially began in 1978 when the library cooperative was established linking all locally funded city libraries. Forty years later, the Public Libraries In Jefferson County member libraries and librarians are offering much more than traditional books, embracing the digital age, and providing crucial services—from job-skills training to downloadable books to online homework help—for residents in all the county’s communities.
