Liberty Park. “Another rule we do have is if any city official asks to see a dog’s rabies tag, the owner would have to present it upon request,” she says. “But other than that, the dog park is all about fun and exercise.” Williamson County is also home to Maggie’s Bark Park, situated behind Franklin High School and managed by Williamson County Animal Control. The dog facility is split into two parts – Maggie’s Bark Park for larger dogs, and Rascal’s Run Around for puppies and dogs that weigh less than 30 pounds. “Maggie’s opened in 2001, with money for the park’s fencing donated by people who volunteer with us and then scouts constructed agility equipment on the grounds,” says Debby Leddy, assistant director of the Williamson County Animal Control. “The 1-acre site has water

fountains as well as kiddie pools for dogs to enjoy in hot weather.” And finally, Spring Hill is located in both Williamson and Maury counties, and the city is home to Spring Hill Bark Park located inside Evans Park. The park is situated on the Maury County side of the city, but Spring Hill residents in both Williamson and Maury counties are welcome to use it. “When we first built the dog park, I really didn’t know what to expect,” says Kevin Fischer, director of the Spring Hill Parks & Recreation Department. “I expected to be overwhelmed with phone calls and problems, but there has never been an issue. The people who go there know what the park is for, and now I’m looking into expanding the facility or building a full-scale dog park at a second location.” – Kevin Litwin
