Senior Day was a special one, as the Dukes topped nationally 11th-ranked Old Dominion 76-63 at the JMU Convocation Center. It marked the third straight season JMU had beaten ODU on the Dukes’ home court. “To go out on top, win your last home game, that’s like the best story.” said Jennifer Brown, one of three seniors honored prior to tip-off. JMU went on a 14-5 scoring run in the last 2:35 to seal the victory, ending a 19-game Monarch winning streak and handing ODU its first league loss of the year. In a game that had eight ties and nine lead changes, JMU took the lead for good on a three-pointer by Tamera Young with 8:48 to play. That put the Dukes ahead 51-49 and began a run in which JMU outscored ODU 12-2 and out-rebounded the Monarchs 8-2 in a span of 3:39. ODU connected on only one of three field goals at the start of the run and then committed turnovers on its next four possessions. In the final three minutes the Dukes converted nine of 12 free-throw attempts, led by Jasmin Lawrence, who was five-for-six at the line. JMU also got a layup from Young and a three-pointer by Dawn Evans in the closing seconds. Meanwhile, ODU was 0-for-6 from the field, including 0-for-3 from three-point range, and 3-for-6 at the foul line. “We stayed together and we made plays,” said coach Kenny Brooks. “We did a fantastic job on the boards (out-rebounding ODU 60-41), and our defense kept them in check.”

Freshman Dawn Evans scored eight points in 43 seconds in the final minute of regulation as JMU cut a 69-62 Indiana lead to one, 71-70, with 17 seconds remaining. Evans hit a long three-pointer at the 1:00 mark, was fouled on a three-
